Florida Horse Of The Year Simplification Arrives At Pleasant Acres For Stud Duty

Pleasant Acres Stallions welcomed to its roster GISP Simplification (Not This Time), who will stand the 2024 season for $6,500, the Florida farm said in a release Thursday.

“We are pleased to bring a talented son of Not this Time into our stallion barn at Pleasant Acres Stallions,” said Director of Stallion Services Christine Jones. “Simplification is a hometown hero for all of us in Florida and we are certain breeders will benefit from breeding to this Champion Horse-of-the-Year, Florida-bred, graded stakes winner.”

Bred by France and Irwin Weiner and owned by Tami Bobo, as a juvenile Simplification broke his maiden by an impressive 16 3/4 lengths at Gulfstream Park. The Antonio Sano trainee began his 3-year-old campaign with a front-running four-length victory in the Mucho Macho Man S., then finished as the runner-up in the GIII Holy Bull S.

Next, he won the GII Fountain of Youth S., finished third in the GI Florida Derby and was fourth in the GI Kentucky Derby. At four, he placed third in the GII WinStar Gulfstream Park Mile S. and fifth in the GIII Ghostzapper S. before he retired with career earnings of nearly $900,000.

The son of Not this Time is out of the Candy Ride daughter, Simply Confection, who was named 2022 FTBOA Broodmare of the Year. The new stallion joins the likes of Bodexpress (Bodemeister), Doppelganger (Into Mischief) and Gunnevera (Dialed In) at the 220-acre farm located just northwest of Ocala.

‘TDN Rising Star’ Doppelganger Arrives At Pleasant Acres Stallions For Stud Duty

Pleasant Acres Stallions welcomes to their roster 'TDN Rising Star' and GISW Doppelganger (Into Mischief) who will stand in 2024 for $10,000 LFSN, the Florida farm said in a release Thursday morning.

“Doppleganger exudes class in every sense. He's an eye-catching individual with more natural power and strength than his namesake Authentic. Commercially, he gives breeders an excellent chance to get a proper ROI, especially with the precocious nature of the broodmare base in Florida,” said Tom Ryan.

A $570,000 Fasig-Tipton Selected Showcase yearling, Doppelganger is out of the Quiet American mare Twice the Lady–a stakes winner and multiple stakes placed performer. His second dam, Catherine's Crown (Chief's Crown) is the dam of Michelle's Crown, who produced Louisiana Champions Day Turf S. and Louisiana Showcase Turf S. winner Snakebite Kit.

Once at the races, the Bob Baffert trainee broke his maiden on debut as a juvenile with a performance that awarded him the coveted TDN title for his 3 1/2 length win at Los Alamitos. He became his sire's 29th 'Rising Star'.

“When we saw him at the sale the whole team, Bob [Baffert], Tom [Ryan], and myself, agreed he was an absolute must have,” said Donato Lanni. “I am looking forward to seeing his babies hit the sales in a couple of years.”

At three, Doppelganger finished as the runner-up in the GII San Felipe S. at Santa Anita, and as a 4-year-old he captured the GI Carter H. at Aqueduct as well as the Battery Park S. at Delaware Park.

“A TDN Rising Star by Into Mischief has arrived in Florida for our breeders,” said Pleasant Acres Stallions Owner Joe Barbazon. “Bred on the same crossover Fappiano-line mares as Champion and MGISW Covfefe and GSW Maximus Mischief, we are confident he will make an impressive impact on future Florida crops.”

Pleasant Acres's newest addition will join the likes of MGISP and G1SP Gunnevera (Dialed In) at the 220-acre farm located just northwest of Ocala.

First Foal Is A Colt For Pleasant Acres Stallions’ Gunnevera

Pleasant Acres Stallions is excited to announce the arrival of Gunnevera's first foal – a colt out of Brass Cat (Bluegrass Cat / South Wing, by Dixie Brass).

Gunnevera began his stallion career at Pleasant Acres Stallions in 2021 and stands for $6,000. He retired with six wins from 21 starts – where he hit the board in a total of six Grade 1 events – with earnings of $5,561,800 and an average of $264,848 per start.

Gunnevera had an exciting career, beating multiple Grade 1 winners including Always Dreaming, West Coast, Practical Joke, and Classic Empire – as well as betting two stallions currently standing in Florida twice each – Girvin in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes and the Kentucky Derby, and Seeking the Soul in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes and the G1 Woodward Stakes.

“Gunnevera started life off as a bottle-fed orphan at 10 days old. The big chestnut colt went on to race, win, and place at the highest level and in some of the most prestigious races around the world,” said Helen Barbazon. “It's very exciting to see him produce such an exceptional colt in his first crop. We look forward to following this beautiful foal's career.”

Gunnevera was a precocious 2-year-old that won the G2 Saratoga Special Stakes one month after winning his maiden special weight. He then went on to win the G3 $1-million Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes just three months later.

At three, he captured the G2 Xpressbet Fountain of Youth Stakes and then finished third in the G1 Florida Derby. In the same year, Gunnevera won Gulfstream's black type Tangelo Stakes and was runner-up in the G1 Travers Stakes, as well as the G2 Lambholm South Holy Bull Stakes. As a 4-year-old, he placed second in the G1 Woodward Stakes and the G1 Breeders' Cup Classic, and third in the G1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational. His last race was the G1 Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airline in 2019, where he placed third.

The colt's dam – Brass Cat – by Bluegrass Cat – is out of South Wing, by Dixie Brass. She has already produced one winner from one starter – the 2019 Hard Rock Gold – who broke his maiden in his second start at Laurel Park.
