Friday’s Stronach 5 Features Four Tracks, Four Tough Maiden Races With $100,000 Guarantee

The Stronach 5 will feature races Friday from Santa Anita Park, Golden Gate Fields, Laurel Park and Gulfstream Park West along with an industry-low 12-percent takeout and a $100,000 guaranteed pool.

Four of the five races in the popular Stronach 5 will be maiden events. Races from Santa Anita and Golden Gate will feature 2-year-old maidens while races from Gulfstream West and Laurel will feature maiden 3-year-olds and up. The only race in the sequence not for maidens will be the second leg, Laurel's seventh race, an optional claimer at six furlongs on the main track.

· Leg One – Gulfstream West 8th Race: (12 entries, 7 ½ furlongs turf) 3:58 ET, 12:58 PT

· Leg Two –Laurel Park 7th Race: (8 entries, 6 furlongs) 4:04 ET, 1:04 PT

· Leg Three –Laurel Park 8th Race (9 entries, 1 mile) 4:49 ET, 1:49 PT

· Leg Four –Santa Anita 3th Race: (10 entries, 5 ½ furlongs turf) 5:08 ET, 2:08 PT

· Leg Five –Golden Gate Fields 3rd Race: (8 entries, 1-mile) 5:25 ET, 2:25 PT

The Stronach 5 In the Money podcast, hosted by Jonathan Kinchen and Peter Thomas Fornatale, will be posted by 2 p.m. Thursday at InTheMoneyPodcast.com and will be available on iTunes and other major podcast distributors

The minimum wager on the multi-race, multi-track Stronach 5 is $1. If there are no tickets with five winners, the entire pool will be carried over to the next Friday.

If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.

The Maryland Jockey Club serves as host of the Stronach 5.

Loutsch Hopes ‘The Old Dennis’ Is Back In Time For Pegasus World Cup

Dennis' Moment was given a break from racing after the 3-year-old finished tenth in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes on Feb. 29, when a veterinary exam revealed bone bruising. According to Horse Racing Nation, the Tiznow colt has returned to training at the barn of Dale Romans.

Equibase reveals that Dennis' Moment has breezed at Churchill Downs three times since his return, the latest a half-mile move in 48 seconds on Oct. 10. Jason Loutsch, racing manager for the Albaugh Family Stables, said Dennis' Moment could be pointed to the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup on Jan. 23 at Gulfstream Park.

“We elected to make the right decision, always take care of the horse first, and give him some time off. Hopefully, the bone bruising is gone now and he comes back and is the old Dennis,” Loutsch told Horse Racing Nation.

Dennis' Moment has been a favorite of Romans' since prior his debut on June 23, 2019, in which he clipped heels and unseated jockey Robby Albarado. The colt rebounded with a 19 1/2-length triumph at Ellis Park on July 27, then set a stakes record when geared down to win the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes on Sept. 14.

Sent off as the favorite for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, Dennis' Moment went to his knees at the start and never recovered, finishing last in the eight-horse field. The bone bruising seems to be to blame for the colt's poor performance in the Fountain of Youth, but Loutsch believes Dennis' Moment can come back to have a strong 4-year-old campaign.

“Absolutely, he's that kind of horse,” Loutsch said. “If he continues to feel good and go forward, there is no reason to think he can't compete at that level.”

Gulfstream Making Plans For Fans To Attend At 50-Percent Capacity During Championship Meet

Racing fans will be able to attend the Championship Meet at Gulfstream Park, according to the Thoroughbred Daily News. The South Florida track will allow fans at up to 50 percent capacity beginning on Dec. 2; Gulfstream shut down to all spectators in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but owners and invited guests have been allowed to attend the races under strict protocols since June.

“This thing is not going away anytime soon and we will do everything we can to keep people protected,” said Bill Badgett, the executive director of Florida racing operations for The Stronach Group. “The box area will be open and some grandstand seating, with social distancing, will be available. That way we can delegate certain sections and areas that we can control.”

Fan protocols have not yet been finalized, but are likely to include temperature checks and mandatory masks.

Gulfstream West: Saturday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed At $100,000

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $100,000 Saturday at Gulfstream Park West.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the fourth day in a row for the Fall Turf Festival Meet Friday, when multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $8,281.98.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Saturday's Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9, including five races with full fields of 12, three of them on turf. The featured Race 8, a 1 1/6-mile optional claiming allowance on turf, attracted a field of 12 3-year-olds and up, plus three also-eligibles. Carlos David-trained Sir Seamus, the 3-1 morning-line favorite, had won three turf races in a row before finishing fourth last time out in an off-the-turf optional claiming allowance. Patrick Biancone-trained Prince of Arabia enters Saturday's featured off a troubled third-place finish in the Richard Henry Lee Stakes at Gulfstream. Rohan Crichton-trained American Phenom, who recently captured an maiden special weight race impressively, is one of four last-out winners in the field.

First-race post time is set for noon Saturday, kicking off a three-day Columbus Day holiday weekend. There will be live-racing program at Gulfstream Park West on Monday.
