Gulfstream: Friday’s Rainbow 6 Pool Guaranteed At $1.5 Million

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $1.5 million Friday at Gulfstream Park.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the 12th racing day in a row Thursday, when multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $9,895.86.

There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover of $17,997.20.

A mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 pool is scheduled for Saturday.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is usually only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. However, on mandatory-payout days, the entire pool is paid out to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the six-race sequence.

Friday's Stronach 5 features races from Santa Anita Park, Laurel Park and Gulfstream Park and an industry-low 12-percent takeout.

The featured races from Gulfstream will be races nine and 10, both on the Gulfstream Turf.

Analysts and hosts from Laurel, Santa Anita and Gulfstream have come up with a $108 Stronach 5 ticket.

Stronach 5: Three Tracks, Three On The Turf In Friday’s Wager

Friday's Stronach 5 will serve up an intriguing, competitive sequence of races from Laurel Park, Santa Anita Park and Gulfstream Park with three races on the turf and an industry-low 12-percent takeout.

The action begins at 3:55 ET with Laurel's eighth race and concludes a little more than an hour later with Gulfstream's 10th race, a mile event on the turf for 3-year-old maidens with a $50,000 price.

Laurel's eighth race, a $42,000 optional allowance claimer for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1 /16 miles, has a 5-2 morning-line favorite in Journeytothemoon, a son of Tourist who won first time out for trainer Mike Trombetta at six furlongs Nov. 21 at Laurel. Betcha by Golly comes into the race off a 2 ½ month layoff for trainer Graham Motion after finishing off-the-board in an allowance race at Keeneland. Leading trainer Claudio Gonzalez saddles Midwest Thoroughbreds Inc.'s Tuff But Fair.

After Laurel's ninth race, a claiming event for 4-year-olds and up at seven furlongs, the Stronach 5 heads to California and Santa Anita Park for the third leg of the sequence and Santa's Anita's third race, a maiden special weight event at a mile on the turf for California breds. Reddam Racing LLC's That Corey, a son of Square Eddie, is the 5-2 choice off a second-place finish at five furlongs on the turf at Del Mar. Trainer Doug O'Neill saddles Hail Freedom, a son of Box Score who finished fourth in his debut at Santa Anita Dec. 27 on the main track.

The last two legs of the sequence will be run at Gulfstream over the turf.

Gulfstream's ninth race, the fourth leg of the sequence, has a field of eight 4-year-old and up claimers going five furlongs. Newton Anner Stud Farm's Star Weaver is the 5-2 choice off a second-place finish under the same conditions Dec. 9. Our Destiny makes his first start at Gulfstream after spending last year competing mostly in state-bred races in New York.

The Stronach 5 concludes with Gulfstream's 10th race, a mile event on the turf for $50,000 maiden claimers. The wide-open affair has a tepid 7-2 choice in first-time starter Six Minus from the barn of leading trainer Todd Pletcher. Supplication, a son of Point of Entry, makes his first start on the turf for trainer Mark Casse while trainer Barclay Tagg sends out Tiz Tact Toe, fifth in a maiden special weight race at a mile at Gulfstream Dec. 5.

The Stronach 5 In the Money podcast, hosted by Jonathan Kinchen and Peter Thomas Fornatale, will be posted by 2 p.m. Thursday at InTheMoneyPodcast.com and will be available on iTunes and other major podcast distributors

The minimum wager on the multi-race, multi-track Stronach 5 is $1. If there are no tickets with five winners, the entire pool will be carried over to the next Friday.

If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.

The Maryland Jockey Club serves as host of the Stronach 5.

Math Wizard ‘Going To Move Forward,’ Aimed At Pegasus World Cup

The fields for the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) and the $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) will be firmed up on Friday, when the connections of the invitees must confirm their intent to run in the Jan. 23 Pegasus World Cup Championship Invitational series at Gulfstream Park.

Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. has every intention to run Grade 1 winner Math Wizard in the 1 1/8-mile Pegasus World Cup. The 5-year-old son of Algorithms was listed second in preference on Reserve Invitees list released last week but is expected to draw into the 12-horse field due to the recent retirement of defending champion Mucho Gusto and the likelihood of Anothertwistafate, No. 1 on the Reserve list for the Pegasus, being committed to the Pegasus Turf.

Math Wizard, who captured the 2019 Pennsylvania Derby (G1) at Parx, came off a three-month layoff to finish fourth in the Dec. 12 Harlan's Holiday (G3) at Gulfstream Park. The Harlan's Holiday was won in impressive front-running fashion by Tax, who won by 4 ½ lengths while covering 1 1/16 miles in a sharp 1:41.15.

“If all goes well, he'll run in the Pegasus,” Joseph said. “He's doing good. Normally, when he comes off a layoff, it takes a race or two for him to come back to order. We wanted to get him the race in the Harlan's Holiday. I feel like he's going to move forward off that race.”

Math Wizard is winless in seven starts since registering a 31-1 upset victory in the Pennsylvania Derby. Heading into Parx's signature race, he had gone winless in six starts following his 18 ½-length victory at Gulfstream Jan. 31, 2019, when he was claimed by Joseph and owner John Fanelli for $25,000.

Admission Office Returns From Six-Month Layoff In Saturday’s Tropical Turf

Amerman Racing LLC's Admission Office will return from a six-month layoff in Saturday's $100,000 Tropical Turf (G3) at Gulfstream Park. In a perfect world, the 6-year-old son of Point of Entry would be bypassing the mile turf stakes to prepare for a second straight start in the $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) Jan. 23.

“We would have loved to run in the Pegasus Turf again, but he hasn't run since June. He needed some time off after his last race and the Pegasus Turf comes up too soon,” said trainer Brian Lynch, noting a prep race would have been needed to make it back to the Pegasus Turf.

Admission Office, who is coming off a victory in the 1 ½-mile Louisville (G3) June 13 at Churchill Downs, is scheduled to meet eight other older horses in the Tropical Turf.

'He's coming back at a distance that isn't really ideal for him, but it's a good starting point,” Lynch said. “The good thing about this race is there's plenty of pace, which ideally suits Gulfstream. But if they get going too fast up front, it could set up for someone to come off the pace.”

Admission Office is a drop-back-make-one-run closer who has finished in the money in six of eight graded-stakes starts. In addition to his victory in the Louisville, he has finished second or third in five graded-stakes races, finishing a half-length behind the winner four times and losing the other race by a length.

“He's his own worst enemy. He gives himself too much to do,” Lynch said. “He needs the ideal trip and the heavens to open up. He needs a clean path. He's such a big horse, when you get him stopped, it's hard to get him started again. He can be his own worst enemy the way he takes himself out of it, but we've been seeing a lot of maturity in him.”

In his first start during Gulfstream's 2019-2020 Championship Meet, Admission Office finished second in the Fort Lauderdale (G2), beaten a half-length by Instilled Regard, earning a chance to run in the Pegasus World Cup Turf, in which he raced in traffic while finishing eighth.

“We took him out of his game and asked him early. He was in traffic and never got the chance to run,” said Lynch, whose stretch-runner finished 5 ½ lengths behind winner Zulu Alpha.

In his next outing, Admission Office came within a length of upsetting Zulu Alpha in the Mac Diarmida (G2), finishing second after taking the lead in mid-stretch. He raced evenly through the stretch to finish fourth after uncharacteristically stalking the early pace in the Sunshine Forever at Gulfstream in May. He finished his 2020 campaign on a winning note at Churchill in June.

Julien Leparoux has the return call aboard Admission Office.

William Lawrence's Analyze It, who is on Reserve List of Invitees for the Pegasus Turf, was entered in the Tropical Turf by trainer Chad Brown. The 6-year-old son of Point of Entry raced twice last year, winning the Red Bank (G3) at Monmouth in September, after being out of action for 22 months.

Irad Ortiz Jr. has the call on Analyze It, who was multiple Grade 1 stakes-placed in 2018.

Jordan Wycoff's Tusk is scheduled to defend his title in the Tropical Turf, which he captured by two lengths last season. The Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained gelding went to the sidelines following the race for 11 months, before returning Dec. 6 to finish a tiring eighth after setting the pace in the Claiming Crown Emerald at Gulfstream.

“He was coming off a long layoff. He got an easy lead and stopped but he got tired,” Joseph said. “He's been training forwardly since that race. He won this race last year, so we're going to give him a chance to win it again”

Luis Saez is scheduled to ride the son of Tapit for the first time Saturday.

John Oxley and My Meadowview Farm LLC's Ride a Comet, who captured the 2019 Del Mar Derby (G2), returns to turf after winning both of his 2020 starts, including the Kennedy Road (G2), over Woodbine's synthetic surface.

Tyler Gaffalione is scheduled to ride the Mark Casse-trained 6-year-old son of Candy Ride.

LRE Racing LLC and JEH Stable LLC's Casa Creed will seek to rebound from an 12th-place finish in the Nov. 7 Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) at Keeneland in his return to Gulfstream Park, where he captured the Kitten's Joy and finished second in the Palm Beach (G3) in 2019. The Bill Mott-trained 5-year-old son of Jimmy Creed was winless in 2020 but finished third the Fourstardave (G1) at Saratoga.

Junior Alvarado has the call aboard Casa Creed.

Larry Pratt and Dave Alden's Doctor Mounty, Calumet Farm's Flying Scotsman, Green Lantern Stables LLC's Frostmourne, and Michael Hui's Hay Dakota round out the field.
