Gulfstream Ups Rainbow 6 Jackpot to $350,000; Jockey Martin Ramirez Scores First Win Since 2017

Sunday's 11-race program at Gulfstream Park will have a guaranteed pool in the 20-cent Rainbow 6 of $350,000.

First race post time is set for noon.

Sunday's Rainbow 6 begins with the sixth race, a claiming event at a mile for 4-year-olds and up, and concludes with the 11th race, a maiden special event for fillies and mares at seven furlongs. The field in the 11th includes Doll Collection, a 4-year-old daughter of Tapit and out of two-time champion Groupie Doll, as well as Lady Boss, second in her debut June 12 on the turf, and Arindel's Tara.

Sunday's Rainbow 6 will also include three turf races, including the $75,000 Bob Umphrey at five furlongs on the turf.

The Sunday program kicks off with a pair of turf races. The early double has nine maiden claimers going to post on the turf at a 1 1/16 miles, while the second race features 3-year-olds and up at a mile on the turf. The maiden special weight event drew a field of seven including Mony, an unraced 4-year-old son of Scat Daddy purchased as a 2-year-old by Zayat Stables for $385,000. The colt finished fourth in his only start in March of 2019. Wesley Ward trains.

Multiple tickets with all six winners Saturday in the Rainbow 6 were each worth $999.94.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Jockey Ramirez Back in Winner's Circle
Jockey Martin Ramirez won his 1,400th career race Saturday afternoon and first since 2017 when he led gate-to-wire aboard Capeline in Gulfstream's fifth race.

Ramirez fractured his neck in a spill at Gulfstream on May 13, 2017. The graded stakes-placed jockey, a leading rider in Canada and Mexico, had ridden for the first time in three years June 17 when he was sixth aboard Capeline.

“I started back [galloping] six month ago,” Ramirez said. “It's nice to be back.”

Shivaree Tunes Up for Blue Grass

Shivaree (Awesome of Course), who belied odds of 80-1 to complete the exacta behind future GI Belmont S. hero Tiz the Law (Constitution) in the GI Curlin Florida Derby Mar. 28, worked five furlongs in 1:01.65 Saturday morning at Gulfstream Park in advance of the GII Toyota Blue Grass S. at Keeneland July 11.

A homebred for Fred Brei’s Jacks Or Better Farm, Shivaree required five starts to break his maiden, but has since proved he belongs in the 3-year-old discussion with a pair of stakes scores prior to his Florida Derby effort. The Ralph Nicks trainee was a latest third to Belmont also-ran Sole Volante (Karakontie {Jpn}) in a salty one-mile allowance in Hallandale June 10.

“It was a very good work–1:01 and change and 1:14 and change in the gallop out,” Nicks said. “I hope he reproduces his Florida Derby race in the Blue Grass, then he’ll get a big piece of it. If he doesn’t get it all, he’ll get a big piece of it.”

Azalea, Carry Back Stakes In Rainbow 6 Sequence At Gulfstream; Jackpot Has $250,000 Guarantee

Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., will celebrate Saturday's July 4th holiday with a $250,000 Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool guarantee on a 12-race program highlighted by the $75,000 Carry Back and the $75,000 Azalea.

First race post time is set for noon.

The Rainbow 6 went unsolved Friday for the second day following Tuesday's mandatory payout. Multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $11,255.28.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Saturday's Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 7-12, including the Azalea, a seven-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies, in Race 9 and the Carry Back, a seven-furlong event for 3-year-olds, in Race 11.

Boerne, rated at 6-5 in the morning line, looms as a popular 'single' with Rainbow 6 bettors. The Juan Carlos Avila-trained daughter of Fed Biz, finished second behind talented Up in Smoke in the June 8 Game Face at Gulfstream as the even-money favorite. Boerne has won her three previous starts by a combined 15 lengths.

Double Crown, who outfinished Grade 1 stakes-placed Green Light Go in the May 16 Roar Stakes last time out, tops a highly competitive edition of the Carry Back. The Kathy Ritvo-trained gelded son of Bourbon Courage will be joined by stablemate Ournationonparade and Hutcheson Stakes winner With Verve.

The Rainbow 6 sequence kicks off with 6 ½-furlong maiden special weight race for 3-year-olds and up in Race 7. Whisper Hill Farm's Plum Funny, a 3-year-old daughter of Distorted Humor, is scheduled to make her career debut for trainer Ralph Nicks. Plum Funny is out of Plum Pretty, who won the 2011 Kentucky Oaks (G1). St. George Stable LLC's Mascabroni, a 3-year-old daughter of Hard Spun, also brings strong bloodlines into her debut.  The Fausto Gutierrez-trained filly is out of So Much Love, who is out of Grade 1 stakes-winning Love Lock.

Orseno, Jaramillo Team Up for Two Wins
Trainer Joe Orseno had two winners Friday with jockey Emisael Jaramillo bringing both to the winner's circle. Jaramillo rode Cash Call Kitten ($6) to victory in the fifth race and brought home Orseno's 13-1 shot Dakota's Dude ($29.60) in the seventh race.

Laurel's eighth race, a $55,000 allowance event at a mile featuring stakes winners Alwaysmining and Cordmaker, was won by Harper's First Ride ($7). The winner and second-place finisher Tybalt are both trained by Claudio Gonzalez.

Gulfsream's 10th race, a maiden special weight event for 3-year-olds and up at a mile on the turf, served as the fourth leg of the Stronach 5 and it was won by Zayat Stables LLC's Salow ($12), a son of Distorted Humor making his debut for trainer Wesley Ward and jockey Eduardo Nunez. The sequence ended with Cannon's Roar ($12.20) winning Laurel's ninth race.
