Dance D’Oro Gets First Stakes Win In Rampart At Gulfstream

Dance d'Oro scored her first stakes victory Saturday at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., in the $100,000 Rampart, leading throughout in a non-threatening victory over Don't Get Khozy.

Winning jockey Emisael Jaramillo rode the 4-year-old daughter of Medaglia d'Oro through comfortable early fractions in the one-mile stakes, leaving the filly with plenty of reserve in the stretch to register a two-length victory.

“We were comfortable in the front, good pace,” Jaramillo said. “When I asked her for run, she ran easy, because the first part of the race was easy for her.”

Dance d'Oro, trained by Ralph Nicks for owner Whisper Hill Farm LLC, was making her stakes debut in what was her 11th career race. Following a three-month layoff, the filly romped to a 9 1/4 length victory in a September 24 optional claiming race at Gulfstream, followed by a third-place effort in a handicap on Nov. 21.

“Her first race back was amazing, and maybe she bounced a little bit because she ran so hard,” Nicks said. “Today was another huge effort.”

Dance d'Oro raced to the front up the backstretch, followed by a non-menacing Gran Baby, and opened up on the field when she led the six-horse field into the stretch. Don't Get Khozy made a late run, but was no match for the winner. Allworthy, the 8-5 favorite, ducked in at the start out of the chute and finished third, 2 1/4 lengths behind the runner-up.

“It has to be maturity,” Nicks said of the filly's improvement. “She's always had talent, but it was hit and miss. She's getting a little more consistent.”

Nicks said he would likely keep Dance d'Oro in South Florida throughout Gulfstream's winter Championship Meet before making a decision on upcoming races.

“We'll stay here through the winter and see from there,” Nicks said.

Doswell Goes Gate To Wire In Fort Lauderdale At Gulfstream

Second to Largent in 2020's Fort Lauderdale, Doswell improved on that result in the 2021 version, taking the lead out of the gate at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., and never relinquished it, taking the Grade 2 stakes easily over Atone and English Bee.

In a full field of 12, Doswell was out fastest with English Bee and Analyze It settling a length back entering the first turn. Onto the backstretch, Doswell was a length and a quarter in front, with Analyze It, English Bee, and King Guillermo stalking. Around the far turn, Atone went three-wide to find a clear running lane as they turned into the stretch.

Doswell had the lead at each call as they straightened out into the stretch run, running easily on the front as Atone and then English Bee rallied on his outside. Neither had enough to catch Doswell, who crossed the wire a length and a half in front to earn his first graded stakes win.

Doswell paid $11.00, $5.80, and $4.00. Atone paid $17.20 and $10.20. English Bee paid $10.80.

Bred in Kentucky by owner Mr. Joseph Allen LLC, Doswell is by Giant's Causeway out of the Minardi mare Ballet Pacifica. He is trained by Barclay Tagg. The Fort Lauderdale is the 6-year-old gelding's first win in four starts in 2021, for a lifetime record of three wins in 12 starts and career earnings of $314,621.

Into Mischief Fillies Put on a Show in Sugar Swirl

Center Aisle (Into Mischief) and 'TDN Rising Star' Frank's Rockette (Into Mischief) ran hard every step of the way in Saturday's six-furlong GIII Sugar Swirl S. at Gulfstream, and, after throwing down in the stretch, it was the former coming away with a hard-fought, one-length victory for a career high.

Perched four-wide beneath Luis Saez as four of them lined up–including favored MGSW & MGISP Frank's Rockette who was racing under fire in between runners–through an opening quarter in a sharp :21.72, Center Aisle poked a head in front approaching the quarter pole.

The classy duo emerged clear from the field of eight as they straightened for home, and, after putting on a nice show down the lane, the 2-1 second-choice Center Aisle edged clear late from her ultra-game rival in a race that didn't deserve a loser.

Center Aisle, a sharp debut winner at Gulfstream for Chad Brown last March, completed the trifecta behind Frank's Rockette in last term's GIII Victory Ride S. at Belmont as well as the GII Prioress S. at Saratoga. Transferred to Paulo Lobo for her 4-year-old campaign, the bay scored in front-running fashion in her first two tries this season–a sloppy Keeneland allowance Oct. 15 over a next-out winner and an optional claimer at Churchill Downs last time Nov. 20, respectively.

Lobo said that the plan is to send Center Aisle back to Kentucky for a freshening before returning to South Florida for the seven-furlong GII Inside Information S. at Gulfstream Jan. 29.

“She was coming into this race ready from two very nice races,” Lobo said. “She's a very special mare. I think she has a bright future. I felt good because the body language of Saez, she looked very comfortable outside and when they came home, my feeling was very good.”

Saez added, “The other filly was running pretty fast. But I had a lot of horse, and we came to the top of the stretch, she gave me another kick. At that point, we knew we had horse to fight, and she did it. She did it pretty impressively.”

Center Aisle, a $1.5-million FTFMAR purchase by Larry Best's OXO Equine and the highest-priced filly out of that sale after breezing a quarter in a powerful :20 3/5, becomes the 105th stakes winner/46th graded stakes winner for her all-conquering sire Into Mischief. She becomes the 65th stakes winner/29th graded winner for her late broodmare sire Empire Maker.

The Into Mischief/Empire Maker cross is also responsible for GI TVG.com Haskell S. winner via disqualification and GI Kentucky Derby runner-up Mandaloun.

Juddmonte homebred Specification, a maiden of two career starts, produced a colt by Goldencents this year and was bred back to Vino Rosso.

The winner's dam is a half-sister to dual GI Pacific Classic winner Skimming (Nureyev). She is out of five-time graded stakes victress Skimble (Lyphard).

Specification was a $37,000 Keeneland November purchase by Todd and Shawn Hansen in 2017 when followed into the ring by then-weanling Center Aisle.

Fearless Makes Bold Move To Take Harlan’s Holiday At Gulfstream Park

Facing a field that included Mighty Heart, the reigning Canadian Horse of the Year, jockey Luis Saez made a bold move for the lead on the backstretch at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., and never relinquished the front, winning the Grade 3 Harlan's Holiday by a length.

Out of the gate, Mighty Heart established a one-length lead early, with Blue Steel and Fearless stalking down the backstretch. With early fractions of :24.38 and :47.76, Saez sent Fearless to the lead as they approached the far turn, putting a head in front of Mighty Heart as they rounded into the far turn.

Into the stretch, Fearless increased his lead to two lengths as South Bend rallied on the outside, passing Mighty Heart inside the last furlong to take second. At the wire, the margin of victory was four lengths. Blue Steel, Twenty Twice, and Eye of the Jedi rounded out the order of finish.
