Gulfstream Park: Over $5.8 Million Wagered On Rainbow 6 On Mandatory Payout Day

There were multiple winning tickets in Saturday's mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 at Gulfstream Park with each ticket worth $17,215.86.

There was a carryover pool of $1,048,970.38 in the Rainbow 6, and $5,831,816 of new money wagered into the pool Saturday.

The sequence started off with a bang when 30-1 longshot Boreas won Gulfstream's seventh race, a maiden special weight event on a mile turf course and returned $62.80.

The jackpot pool is usually only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. However, on mandatory payout days the whole pool is paid out to the bettor or bettors holding tickets with the most winners in the six-race sequence.

There will be a guaranteed pool of $200,000 in Sunday's Rainbow 6, which includes three turf races. The sequence begins with the sixth race, a maiden special event at a mile for 4-year-olds and up. Bold Agenda, a son of Candy Ride from the Todd Pletcher stable, is 9-5 in the morning-line off a third-place finish here Jan. 15 at a mile. Winter Pool, a son of Curlin, debuts for the barn of Chad Brown and is 5-2.

The 10th race, an optional allowance claimer at 1 1/16 mile on the turf, is a wide-open affair with a dozen fillies and mares. The Brown barn sends out Linny Kate, a daughter of Tonalist making her first start in eight months. Brendan Walsh sends out two including Godolphin LLC's Lake Lucerne, making her U.S. debut. The final leg of the sequence is a maiden special weight event for 3-year-old fillies on the turf at 1 1/16 mile. It's another competitive event with debut runners from the barns of Shug McGaughey, Christophe Clement and Brown, and 4-1 favorite Champagne Ivy for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr., and A Thing of Beauty for Pletcher.

NOTES: Calumet Farm's Flying Scotsman went gate-to-wire to win Saturday's 10th race, a $53,000 allowance optional claimer. A 5-year-old son of English Channel entering the race off a fifth-place finish in the Tropical Turf (G3), Flying Scotsman and Corey Lanerie covered the mile turf course in 1:32.83 and returned $33.60. Structor, making his first start since winning the 2019 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1), finished in a dead heat for fourth.

Gulfstream: Jouster Beats Rachel Alexandra’s Full Sister; Brown Unveils Promising Filly; $1.2 Million Jackpot Guaranteed Wednesday

Starlight Racing's Jouster remained undefeated on grass Sunday at Gulfstream Park, scoring by 1 ¾ lengths over Gladys, a full sister to 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, in the Race 7 feature at the Hallandale Beach, Fla., track. The race was a 1 1/16-mile optional claiming allowance on turf for 3-year-old fillies..

The Todd Pletcher-trained daughter of Noble Mission, who scored a front-running 8 ¾-length maiden victory in her Jan. 10 turf debut at Gulfstream, again showed the way before holding Gladys at bay through the stretch to prevail as the 1-10 favorite. Jouster, a $360,000 purchase at the Fasig-Tipton New York Saratoga Select Yearling sale, ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.56 over a 'good' course after setting fractions of 25:02 and 48:07 for the first half-mile, 1:10.99 for six furlongs and 1:35.57 for a mile.

“I was a little concerned running on soft ground today because she handled the firm ground so well last time. But she dug in and found a little more when she had to despite going quick internal fractions,” Pletcher said. “She got the job done. She's 2-for-2 now on the grass, so we'll try again.”

Dede McGehee's Gladys, who was making her turf debut Sunday, chased Jouster throughout the entry-level optional claiming allowance and made up some ground in the stretch. The Kelsey Danner-trained Gladys, who broke her maiden Oct. 25 at Gulfstream Park West before finishing off the board in the Jan. 1 Cash Run at Gulfstream, was wearing blinkers for the first time for her turf debut.

Trainer Chad Brown unveiled a most promising 3-year-old filly in Sunday's Race 6, a six-furlong sprint won by Peter Brant's Boston Post Road with a thoroughly professional performance. The debuting daughter of Quality Road pressed the early pace before drawing clear by three lengths under Paco Lopez.

Purchased for $525,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale, the long-striding Boston Post Road ($8.20) ran six-furlongs in 1:11.68.

Wednesday's Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed at $1.2 Million
The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $1.2 million Wednesday at Gulfstream Park.

Gulfstream Park: Rainbow 6 Hit For $636,311; Mandatory Payout On Sunday

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., was hit Wednesday for $636,311.50 on the day when post positions were drawn for Saturday's $3-million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) and $1-million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1).

Thursday's Rainbow 6 sequence, with a guaranteed pool of $100,000, will span Races 5-10, including a well-stocked maiden special weight race for older horses in Race 5. Caveat Emptor, a Joseph Allen homebred trained by Jimmy Toner, and Core Conviction, a son of American Pharoah trained by Chad Brown, are scheduled to make their respective debuts in the mile turf race. Voodoo Zip, second in his last four starts, will be saddled for the first time by Christophe Clement. While Phil Serpe-trained King Angelo will make his first Gulfstream start after finishing second on dirt his Dec. 20 debut at Aqueduct.

In Race 7, a mile optional claiming allowance on turf for 3-year-old fillies, Ron Spatz-trained I Get It will seek to return to winning form after finishing fourth in the Ginger Brew. The daughter of Get Stormy had won her three previous starts by a combined total of nearly 12 lengths.

There will be a mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 Sunday.

WHO'S HOT: Junior Alvarado notched a three-win day Wednesday, scoring aboard Mary of Scotland ($17.60) in Race 2, Sososubtle ($38.80) in Race 4, and Celestial Cheetah ($12.20) in Race 6.

Gulfstream Park: Mandatory Payout Spurs $5.3 Million Into Rainbow 6 Pool

Multiple winning tickets on Gulfstream Park's mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 Saturday were each worth $14,626.86.

There was $5,353.843 of new money bet into the pool at the Hallandale Beach, Fla., track.

The Rainbow 6 begins anew Sunday with a $100,000 guaranteed pool beginning with the sixth race, an allowance optional claiming event at 1 1/16 miles on the turf featuring a field of six. The first race in the sequence is followed by a maiden special weight event at five furlongs on the turf for 3-year-old fillies. There were four turf races in Sunday's Rainbow 6.

There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover Sunday of $8,740.12.

WHO'S HOT: Jockey Tyler Gaffalione had three winners on the afternoon, capping the day with his victory aboard Ride a Comet in the Tropical Park (G3). Gaffalione also won the third race with Shadwell Stable's first-time starter, Lamutanaatty, a 3-year-old son of Into Mischief, and the allowance optional claimer fourth race with Bluegrass Parkway…Trainer Bill Mott had a pair of 3-year-olds break their maidens Saturday. Frank Fletcher Racing Operations, Inc.'s Candy Man Rocket, a son of Candy Ride making his second start, ran away from eight others to win over six furlongs by 9 ¼ lengths in 1:11.28. Donald Dizney's homebred Simovitch won going a mile by 3 ½ lengths while covering the distance in 1:39.04.
