Gulfstream Park: With Mandatory Payout, Saturday’s Rainbow 6 Pool Could Reach $3 Million

A mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 pool is scheduled for Saturday at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., where the $100,000 Desert Vixen and $100,000 Dr. Fager will kick off the 2021 FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes series.

The popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for 13 consecutive racing days since a June 30 mandatory payout. Rainbow 6 wagering will start Saturday with a carryover jackpot pool of $500,634.97.

Saturday's pool is expected to reach approximately $3 million.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is usually only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. However, on mandatory-payout days, the entire pool is paid out to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the six-race sequence.

Saturday's Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 8-13, including the Desert Vixen, a six-furlong sprint for juvenile fillies, in Race 10, and the Dr. Fager, a six-furlong open division for 2-year-olds, in Race 12.

In the Desert Vixen, Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Noble Dreamer, an impressive 7 ½-length winner in her second career start, will seek to even the score with Demurely, who defeated her in her debut.

Joe Orseno-trained Hope in Him, a dominating five-length winner in his debut, is rated as the 8-5 morning-line favorite in the Dr. Fager. Jeff Engler-trained Lightening Larry, who finished second behind Hope In Him in his debut, will try the favorite again Saturday after scoring by two-lengths in his second career start.

The Rainbow 6 sequence will kick off with a mile event for $6250 claimers in Race 8, in which the ultra-consistent Gilberto Zerpa-trained Candy Crushem is narrowly favorite in the morning line over tough-as-nails Green Mansions, who returned to winning form last time out against similar company.

A wide-open $25,000 claiming race at 1 1/16 miles on turf, which will likely be a popular 'spread' race in Rainbow 6 betting, follows in Race 9. The Desert Vixen will be followed by an optional claiming allowance at 7 ½ furlongs on turf in Race 11 that should prove challenging to Rainbow 6 bettors. Plenum, who is rated as the 2-1 morning-line favorite, will seek his seventh-straight in-the-money finish since joining trainer Oscar Gonzalez's barn.

The Dr. Fager will be followed by the $60,000 Harbor Islands overnight handicap, a highly competitive five-furlong turf dash for fillies and mares that will anchor the Rainbow 6 sequence. Steven Dwoskin-trained Choose Joy is rated as the 2-1 morning-line favorite on the strength of a victory in the Golden Beach and a narrow loss in the Biscayne Landing in her last two starts. Amador Sanchez-trained Lagertha, who won the Biscayne Landing after finishing second behind Choose Joy in the Golden Beach, is rated second at 5-2 in the morning line.

Gulfstream Park: $400,000 Jackpot Guaranteed In Friday’s Rainbow 6

Gulfstream Park's weekend of racing kicks off Friday afternoon with a $400,000 guaranteed pool in the 20-cent Rainbow 6 and a 12-race program Saturday featuring the $75,000 Mr. Steele for 3-year-olds and up on the turf.

First race post Friday is 2 p.m. and Saturday 12:20 p.m.at the Hallandale Beach, Fla., track There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover into Friday's first race of $11,452.52.

After each of the last five races Friday, two names will be selected to win $100 betting vouchers. XB Reward members and those who join XB Rewards in Silks will be eligible.

Friday's Rainbow 6 begins with Race 4, a maiden special weight event for fillies and mares at five furlongs on the turf. Ventriloquist, a 3-year-old daughter of Nyquist owned by Magic Cap Stables, makes her debut for leading trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. Gary Barber's Baby Mo, a daughter of Upstart, cuts back in distance second time off the layoff.

Race 6, the third leg of the sequence, is a maiden special weight event for 2-year-old fillies also at five furlongs on the turf. Zen, an Irish-bred daughter of Zoffany is one of two entered by trainer Mark Casse along with Fulminate. Saturday Nite Girl will make her debut for Glen Hill Farm and trainer Thomas Proctor.

Saturday's 12-race program includes five turf races, three maiden special weight events and the $75,000 Mr. Steele, a race at 1 1/16 miles on the turf with three of the seven entered for the turf trained by Saffie Joseph Jr. Joseph will send out Renaisance Frolic, second in the Appleton (G3) over the winter, and two horses claimed earlier this year in Noble Indy and Max K.O.

Glen Hill Farm's Caribou Club, a graded stakes winner back in 2018 and winner of the Sunny Isles here in May, and Vow Me Now, second to Chuck Willis in the Golden Glades May 31, are also entered.

Joseph continues to hold an impressive lead in the trainer standings with 49 wins, 32 more than Carlos David and Antonio Sano with 17 each. Mark Casse has 16 wins heading into the weekend and Kathleen O'Connell and Juan Carlos Avila have 14 each.

The jockey standings are much tighter with Edgard Zayas holding a 76-74 lead over Emisael Jaramillo. Injured rider Edwin Gonzalez has 59 wins and Miguel Vasquez 58.

A mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 will be held Saturday at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., with bettors' hopes of taking down a life-changing score riding high.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot stands at $464,802.90 going into Saturday's 12-race program that gets under way at 12:20 p.m. The pool is expected to grow to $2.5 million Saturday or more after Rainbow 6 betting.

The popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for the 14 racing days since a lucky ticketholder broke the jackpot May 29 for a $400,000 payoff.

The $75,000 Not Surprising, a stakes for 3-year-olds scheduled for a mile on turf, will be featured on Saturday's program, as well as the mandatory payout that is always popular with bettors looking for a big payday.

The search for a 'single' in Saturday's Rainbow 6 sequence (Races 7-12), may prove to be challenge for handicappers. The sequence will be kicked off by a $12,500 maiden claiming race for 3-year-olds and up. The 5 ½-furlong dash that drew a field of 10 will likely be a popular 'spread race.'

Race 8 is a starter optional claiming allowance scheduled for 1 1/16 miles on turf. Efren Loza Jr.-trained Kartano, who finished a close third in the English Channel last time out, is rated as the 7-5 morning-line favorite in a field of 10. Tellington, who finished second in his first start for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr., is likely to be included in many Rainbow 6 tickets. Should the Race be taken off the turf, Gods Promise, the only main-track only entrant, is slated to make his first start for trainer Jorge Delgado, who has been deadly with horses off the claim.

A $16,000 claiming race for 3-year-olds at seven furlongs follows in Race 9. Kathern's Joy, who missed earning his diploma by a neck against slightly weaker company, is rated as the 2-1 morning-line favorite in a field of nine. Boldness, who had a troubled trip from the rail post in his debut against better, may be viewed as a solid value play for bettors who are fans of trainer David Fawkes.

Saffie Joseph Jr. figures to be well-represented in Race 10 weather the $12,500 claiming race for 3-year-olds and up stays on turf or is moved to the main track. Calabash will be looking to make amends after finishing an even fourth at 3-5 in his first start for Joseph. Berhanu, a main-track-only entrant, rated at 5-2, is slated for a drop from $25,000 company.

Union Gap has shown he knows how to win, having won three in a row but the 5-2 morning-line favorite is slated to jump from the bottom level to the $12,500 claiming level for Race 11, a mile race for 3-year-olds and up.

The Rainbow 6 sequence concludes in Race 12, a $12,500 maiden claimer for 3-year-olds and up that is scheduled for 1 1/16 miles on turf. Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Kick in the Gas, the 8-5 morning-line favorite formerly trained by Christophe Clement, drops from a fourth-place finish in his April 10 debut against $35,000 maiden claimers. With no main-track-entrants, handicapping the race should prove most testing should the race be moved to the main track.

Another Rainbow 6 mandatory payout is scheduled for Wednesday, June 30, on the final program of the fiscal year. A racing card will also be conducted on Thursday, July 1, the first day of the new fiscal year. There will be no live racing next Friday leading up to the Fourth of July Weekend. The holiday weekend will be highlighted by the Summit of Speed program on Saturday, July 3, featuring the $350,000 Princess Rooney Invitational (G2), a seven-furlong Breeders' Cup 'Win and You're In' sprint for fillies and mares; the $200,000 Smile Sprint Invitational (G3), a six-furlong stakes for 3-year-olds and up; and the $100,000 Bob Umphrey Turf Sprint, a five-furlong dash for 3-year-olds and up, Sunday, July 4.

NOTE: Trainer Kathleen O'Connell sent three horses to the track Friday and all three were winners. O'Connell won with Well Defined ($3.20) in the second, World Gone Wild ($9.80) in the sixth and Gingeronmymind ($12) in the ninth.

Gulfstream Park: Sunday’s Rainbow 6 Has $650,000 Guaranteed Jackpot

Father's Day at Gulfstream will include a 10-day race program and a guaranteed pool in the 20-cent Rainbow 6 of $650,000.

No one selected six winners Saturday at the Hallandale Beach, Fla., track. Consolation tickets with five winners returned $1,998.76. It was the 12^th day the Rainbow 6 went unsolved.

Sunday's Rainbow 6 begins with Race 5, a maiden claimer at seven furlongs, and ends with Race 10, a mile turf event for maiden claimers. A key race in the sequence will be Race 9 featuring Collaborate, a son of Into Mischief owned by Three Chimneys Farm and e Five Racing Thoroughbreds who finished fifth in the Curlin Florida Derby (G1) presented by Hill 'n' Dale Farms at Xalapa. After a short break Collaborate returned May 15 to finish third in the Roar Stakes behind stablemate Moonlite Strike.
