Gulfstream Park: $900,000 Guaranteed Rainbow 6 Jackpot On Sunday

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 will have a guaranteed pool of $900,000 when racing resumes Sunday with a 12-race program at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

First race post is 12:10 p.m.

The sequence features three turf stakes and will include the eighth race, a maiden special weight event at 1 1/16 miles on the turf for 3-year-olds with colts from the stables of Bill Mott, Shug McGaughey, Todd Pletcher, Christophe Clement, Mark Casse and Brian Lynch. In the ninth race, an optional claiming event at six furlongs, Cory Gal will seek her fourth consecutive victory. State-bred fillies go to post in the 10^th race. Big Rings enters the race off a fourth-place finish in the Gasparilla at Tampa. The sequence concludes with a wide-open, $50,000 maiden claiming event for fillies at 1 1/16 mile on the turf.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Pletcher Wins Four, Jose Ortiz Three On Fountain of Youth Day
Along with winning the Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth (G2) aboard Greatest Honour, jockey Jose Ortiz also won aboard Antoinette ($9.20) in the The Very One and on Attachment Rate ($15.20) in an allowance optional claimer.

Leading trainer Todd Pletcher won four races on the day. He started the day winning the second race with Nocturnal ($3.40) before Con Lima was placed first through a disqualification in the Herecomesthebride (G3). He saddled Fearless ($7.60) to victory in the WinStar Gulfstream Mile (G2 and Sayyaaf ($13.40) in an optional claimer. Pletcher's Fountain of Youth starter Prime Factor finished seventh.

Collaborate a Promising Winner
Collaborate, a 3-year-old colt owned by Three Chimneys Farm and e Five Racing Thoroughbreds, broke his maiden in his second career start, winning by 12 ½ lengths while covering a mile on the main track in 1:36.35.

Trained by Saffie Joseph Jr. and ridden by Tyler Gaffalione, is a son of Into Mischief out of the Grade 2 winning mare Quiet Temper. Collaborate sold as a yearling for $600,000.

Gulfstream Park: Castellano Back In Winner’s Circle; Rainbow 6 Jackpot Has $400,000 Guarantee

Hall of Famer Javier Castellano made a welcome return to the Gulfstream Park winner's circle Thursday, scoring for the first time since undergoing clean-up surgery on his right leg in November.

The four-time Eclipse Award winner, who captured five consecutive Championship Meet riding titles at the Hallandale Beach, Fla., track, (2011-12 through 2015-16), returned from a three-month layoff Feb. 17 and broke through with Una Luna ($10), his 14th mount back, in Thursday's Race 7.

“It's good to get this one out of the way and look to the future,” said the 43-year-old Castellano, who began his career in the U.S. in South Florida after venturing from Venezuela.

Una Luna settled well behind a hot early pace in the mile optional claiming allowance on turf before entering contention and becoming involved in a three-horse battle to the wire between horses. Una Luna prevailed by a neck but had to survive an inquiry before officially providing Castellano his first win of the year.

“It was a very competitive races – three horses going to the wire. I had a lot of pressure outside, but at the same time, I had to ride my horse. I couldn't stop on my horse. The inside horse was running out of gas and ended up in a bad spot. I tried to keep my horse straight, but I didn't get much help on the outside.”

The victory was No. 5,329 for the popular riding star, whose mounts have earned more than $350 million.

“I'm very happy to be here. It's my first win back. It's very exciting,” Castellano said. “I don't have the words to describe how happy I am.”

Friday's Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed at $400,000
The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $400,000 Friday at Gulfstream Park.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the third straight racing day since a lucky bettor broke the jackpot for $712,824.06 Saturday. Multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $6,418.48 Thursday.

The jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

There will also be a Super Hi 5 carryover in Friday's first race of $6,008.44.

WHO'S HOT: Luis Saez tripled Thursday aboard Assume Control ($16) in Race 4, Gitana ($12.60) in Race 8, and La Libertee ($8.80) in Race 9.

Trainer Antonio Sano continued a successful Championship Meet Thursday by saddling back-to-back winners – Joshy Jak ($12.40) in Race 5 and Fast Catalina ($17.40) in Race 7.

Gulfstream Park: Walder Win Streak Hits Seven, Gaffalione Reaches 1,500 Milestone; Thursday’s Rainbow Jackpot Has $300,000 Guaranteeth

Trainer Peter Walder extended his winning streak to seven Wednesday at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., after saddling High Heater ($15) for a front-running victory in Race 2, a seven-furlong sprint for $12,000 claimers.

“Everything is clicking. The right races are coming at the right time. Horses are just doing good,” Walder said. “The game is a rollercoaster. I'm a streaky trainer to begin with. I don't want to curse myself, but I might go 0-for-the-next month. I'll just enjoy it while it lasts.”

Walder saddled one winner from one starter last Wednesday and last Thursday before going 3-for-3 Friday and scoring with his only starter on Saturday.

Walder's streak of winning starters was also broken in Race 2 when stablemate Surf Shack finished second, a neck behind High Heater. However, the veteran trainer can extend a winning-races streak with Time to Two Step in Friday's Race 2.

Gaffalione Notches Career Win No. 1500 at Gulfstream
Tyler Gaffalione has notched yet another career milestone at Gulfstream Park, where he rode his 1,500th winner while guiding Awesome Pudding to a debut victory in Wednesday's Race 4, a six-furlong dash for $50,000 maiden claimers.

The 26-year-old native of Davie, Fla., rode his first winner, Holdin Bullets, at Gulfstream September 7, 2014, and reached the 1,000-win milestone Aboard Mission From Elle at the Hallandale Beach track Dec. 30, 2018.

Gaffalione, who won the Eclipse Award as the nation's leading apprentice while riding full time at Gulfstream in 2015, teamed with trainer Ralph Nicks for three victories on Wednesday's program. They scored back-to-back victories with Shoug ($5.60) in Race 3 and Awesome Pudding ($28.60) in Race 4 before winning Race 6 with Dassult Mirage ($9).

“I've been so fortunate during my career. I've always gotten tremendous support from the owners and trainers. I owe a lot to my agent Matt Muzikar. These horses keep showing up,” Gaffalione said. “I'm just living the dream.”

Tyler also holds a share of the Gulfstream Park record for most wins on a card, becoming only the second jockey with seven winners July 4, 2017. Jerry Bailey (3/11/1996), Luis Saez (1/24/2018 and 3/29/2018) and Paco Lopez (3/11/2020) have also ridden seven winners in a day.

Thursday's Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed at $300,000
