Gulfstream: Smile Sprint Headlines Saturday’s $200,000 Guaranteed Rainbow 6

The $100,000 Smile Sprint (G3) will kick off a Labor Day Weekend slate of seven stakes at Gulfstream Park Saturday while headlining the six-race sequence for the Rainbow 6, the popular multi-race wager that will offer a guaranteed jackpot pool of $200,000.

The sequence for the Rainbow 6 will span Races 7-12 and will include the $75,000 Bear's Den in Race 8 and the $75,000 Miss Gracie in Race 10, as well as the Smile in Race 11. First-race post time is set for noon.

Cool Arrow, a career winner of more than $500,000, has been installed as the even-money favorite for the Smile, a six-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds and up. The Terri Pompay-trained 6-year-old gelding is coming off back-to-back victories, including a dominating 4 ½-length triumph in the Opening Lead Stakes last time out. Kathy Ritvo-trained Double Crown will also be seeking his third straight victory while coming off back-to-back stakes scores in the Roar and the Carry Back at Gulfstream.

Ruben Gracida-trained Monforte, who finished second in the Aug. 8 Not Surprising while coming off a six-month layoff, is rated as the 7-5 morning-line favorite for the Bear's Den, a 7 ½-furlong turf stakes for 3-year-olds and up. Monforte, who had won his four previous races, will be challenged by Cadet Connelly, a Grade 1 stakes-placed 3-year-old gelding, and Sassy But Smart, who is slated to make his first start since finishing a close fourth in the Feb. 29 Palm Beach (G3) at Gulfstream.

Mark Casse-trained Mo of the West will go for his third win in a row while making her stakes debut in the Miss Gracie, a 7 ½-furlong turf stakes for fillies and mares.

Labor Day Weekend stakes action will continue on Sunday with the running of the $75,000 Benny the Bull and the $75,000 Sheer Drama and on Monday with the $75,000 Mr. Steel and the $75,000 Monroe.

The Rainbow 6 went unsolved for the third racing day in a row Friday, when multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $7,412.80.

Saturday's Rainbow 6 will have a guaranteed pool of $200,000 and will include the $100,000 Smile Sprint (G3), $75,000 Miss Gracie and $75,000 Bear's Den. The Miss Gracie and Bear's Ben will be contested on the turf.

There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover of $1,761.30.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Gulfstream Park: Friday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed At $500,000

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $500,000 Friday at Gulfstream Park.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the seventh racing day in a row Thursday, when tickets with all six winners were each worth $1,051.48

There will also be a Super Hi-5 Carryover Friday of $4,251.17.

A mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 pool has been scheduled for Saturday, when the $200,000 Affirmed and the $200,000 Susan's Girl will be included in the six-race sequence. The pool is expected to exceed $2 million if the Rainbow 6 continues to go unsolved Friday.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is usually only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. However, on mandatory-payout days, the entire pool is paid out to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the six-race sequence.

Friday's Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9, which will feature a well-stocked $65,000 maiden special weight race for 2-year-old fillies in Race 5 with offspring of Uncle Mo, Cairo Prince, Speightster, Air Force Blue and Jess's Dream. The sequence will conclude with a mile turf race for $40,000 maiden claimers in Race 9.

Race 9 will also be included in the sequence for Friday's Stronach 5, the national wager with a $1 base and a $100,000 pool guarantee. Laurel Park's Race 7 will kick off the sequence, followed by Gulfstream's Race 9, Races 8 and 9 at Laurel, and Race 2 at Golden Gate Fields.

Apprentice Trejos Wins Three

Apprentice jockey Joseph Trejos rode three winners on Thursday's card. Trejos, a native of Panama who rode his first winner in the U.S., in April, won aboard Strong Ending ($5.60) in the third, Palmgirl ($12.60) in the sixth and Twice as Magical ($6.80) in the seventh.

Mandatory Payout Featured In Saturday’s Rainbow 6 At Gulfstream Park

Four stakes races will highlight a mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool Saturday, Aug. 29 at Gulfstream Park.

Saturday's Rainbow 6 sequence will begin with the seventh race and include the $200,000 FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes Affirmed for 2-year-olds, the $200,000 FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes Susan's Girl for 2-year-old fillies, the $75,000 Proud Man and $75,000 Sharp Susan.

The Affirmed and Susan's Girl will both be contested at seven furlongs on the main track. The Proud Man and Sharp Susan will feature 2-year-olds on a mile turf course.

The Rainbow 6 pool will be guaranteed at $450,000 when racing resumes Thursday with a noon post time. The popular 20-cent wager has gone unsolved for eight consecutive race days.

Gulfstream: Saturday’s Rainbow 6 Pool Guaranteed At $350,000, Late Pick 5 Carryover Of $70,480

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $350,000 Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the sixth racing day in a row Friday, when tickets with five of six winners were each worth $1,390.82.

There will also be a Late Pick 5 carryover of $70,480.23 Saturday. The Late Pick 5 will span Races 7-11.

Saturday's Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 6-11, including the featured optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up in Race 10. Alshareef Hazzaa Shaker Alabdali's Tatweej has been installed as the 9-5 morning-line favorite in the mile event off a strong maiden score last time out. The Todd Pletcher-trained son of Tapit set a pressured pace before drawing off to score by 3 ¾ lengths in a July 25 maiden special weight race at a mile. The late-developing 4-year-old colt, who brought $2.5 million at the 2017 Keeneland September Sale, had previously finished third in his debut. Edgard Zayas has the return mount.

One down and 18 to go for R Private Jet to catch big brother Pay Any Price in the win department.

A well-beaten seventh in his recent debut on turf, R Private Jet ($7.40) showed the way throughout to break his maiden Friday at Gulfstream Park. Although his 10-year-old brother is a multiple-stakes winner on turf, R Private Jet showed a distinct liking for Gulfstream's main track Friday, running six furlongs in 1:10.82 and scoring by 1 ¼ lengths after withstanding a serious bid by ultimate second-place finisher Catch On Emotional.

Purchased by Rich Averill's Averill Racing LLC and CCF Racing Stable for $82,000 at the 2018 OBS October sale, the 3-year-old gelded son of Khozan does have a lot in common with his still-spry brother, who most recently captured the Bob Umphrey Turf Sprint for the third time.

“We bought him two years ago. He was very good looking. We thought there were some good similarities between the two – the way they looked. We kind of paid a little more than we liked, being a little sentimental,” said Averill, who owns Pay Any Price in a partnership with Matties Racing Stable LLC. “He was getting ready to run, but he's a lot like his brother – mentally, he's a mess. He flipped over and hurt himself. We sent him to the farm and brought him back and then he had shins and we had to send him back to the farm. So, it's been a rough go with him. We're glad to see him come in here and win.”

R Private Jet, who was ridden by Edgard Zayas, is likely to remain on dirt for his next start, despite his older brother's longstanding dominance on South Florida turf.
