Badgers Bloodstock acquired Group 3 winner West End Girl (GB) (Golden Horn {GB}) (lot 5) for a sale-topping £420,000 when bidding closed during the inaugural Tattersalls Ascot Online Sale on Monday. Formerly owned by Alan and Mike Spence, the G3 Sweet Solera S. heroine has an entry in the G2 Ribblesdale S. at Royal Ascot on Tuesday. Consigned by Kingsley Park, the Car Colston Hall Stud-bred is out of the Dansili (GB) mare Free Rein (GB) and was last seen finishing third in the Listed Oaks Trial S. on June 5 for trainer Mark Johnston.

Originally purchased for 95,000gns out of Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by Johnston, she is the second foal, runner and winner for the winning Free Rein, who is a half-sister to European Highweight Reckless Abandon (GB) (Exchange Rate), a winner of the G1 Prix Morny and G1 Middle Park S., as well as Japanese listed winner & MGSP Best Approach (GB) (New Approach {Ire}). The other lot to sell on Monday was lot 4, Igotatext (Ire) (Ajaya {GB}), who was offered by Archie Watson’s Saxon Gate after a June 5 debut win over the Lingfield all-weather. The Cool Silk Partnership snapped up the son of first-season sire Ajaya for £165,000. Out of Tifawt (GB) (High Chaparral {Ire}), Igotatext comes with an entry for the G2 Coventry S. on June 20.

The bay RNA’d for €13,500 during the 2018 Tattersalls Ireland Flat Foal & Breeding Stock Sale, before changing hands for €10,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale Part II. Bred by Peter and Hugh McCutcheon in Ireland, his winning second dam is a half-sister to English highweighted sprinter Kingsgate Native (Ire) (Mujadil), who won the G1 Golden Jubilee S., G1 Nunthorpe S. and ran second in the G1 Prix de l’Abbaye.

“A big team effort has gone into getting the inaugural Tattersalls Ascot Online Sale off the ground and we are very pleased with the results,” said Tattersalls Ascot Sales Head Matthew Prior said. “There were a few technical glitches along the way which were quickly resolved and we will learn from today’s sale, but overall it was a genuinely encouraging start for Tattersalls Online. We had wholehearted, enthusiastic support from the vendors as well as bidders from throughout the world, and we would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to all who supported and participated in this new venture. In particular we wish all the connections the very best of luck with their purchases this week if taking up their engagements at Royal Ascot.”
