None Above The Law Steals Sunday’s Alcatraz Stakes At Golden Gate

Three-year-old gelding None Above the Law became a multiple stakes winner at Golden Gate Fields on Sunday afternoon in the $75,000 Alcatraz Stakes for 3-year-olds on firm turf. The grey/roan equine sat off a fast pace early, made a dash to the lead in the midstretch and pulled away for a convincing length-and-a half victory under jockey Irving Orozco. None Above the Law completed the one mile on grass in 1:35.56.

Sent off as the 9-5 post time favorite, None Above the Law paid $5.80 to win, $3.60 to place and $2.80 to show. Runner up finisher Seattle Bold, who set front-running fractions of 23.14, 46.33, 1:10.32 and 1:23.63 on the lead before getting reeled in within the final furlong, paid $5.00 to place and $3.80 to show. Third place finisher Jungle Cry returned $3.80 to show. Chief Jackson ran fourth, followed by Top Harbor, J.T's Watch, Ida Claire, Top Executive, Stalking Shadow and Que Sera Sir Ralph.

None Above the Law, who won the Silky Sullivan Stakes at Golden Gate Fields on Tapeta in April, has now made 4 trips to the winner circle from 10 starts, with 1 second and 1 third place finish. Career earnings add up to just under $175,000. None Above the Law, out of the Northern Afleet mare Legally Blanca, is trained by Peter Miller and owned by Downstream Racing LLC. He was bred in California by J. Kirk and Judy Robison.

Live racing at Golden Gate Fields returns on Friday afternoon, with first post slated at 1:20 PM PT. Next week, Golden Gate Fields offers racing Friday through Monday, with a special Memorial Day Monday holiday card on the docket.

Friday’s Stronach 5 Features Races From Four Tracks, 12-Percent Takeout

Friday's Stronach 5 will feature full fields, four tracks, and an industry-low 12-percent takeout.

The popular wager, which had three winning tickets last week each worth $40,140, will feature racing from Pimlico Race Course, Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields and an industry-low 12-percent takeout.

The Stronach 5 begins with Pimlico's ninth race, an allowance event at five furlongs on the turf for 3-year-olds and up. The Colts Neck Stable's entry of Nothing Better and Town of Gold is the 2-1 favorite. Town of Gold returns off a five-month layoff. The 3-year-old finished second at Aqueduct Dec. 4 in the optional allowance claimer. Nothing Better also returns from a five-month layoff, Jorge Duarte Jr. saddles the entry. Sky's Not Falling was stakes-placed last year as a juvenile at Saratoga, Woodbine and Presque Isle Downs. He returns to the turf after a second-place finish on the main track at Pimlico May 6. Michael Trombetta trains.

Gulfstream's ninth race, a 7 ½ furlong event on the turf for maiden fillies and mares is next with Uptown Queen the 3-1 favorite for trainer David Fawkes. The daughter of Big Drama was second against similar Jan. 7 before finishing sixth Jan. 27 after a very wide trip breaking from the 12 post.

Santa Anita's third race, an optional claimer for fillies and mares at 6 ½ furlongs on the turf, drew a field of eight led by 2-1 favorite Acai. Vegas Palm (5-2) is one of only two horses entered to win on the turf along with Peace Pipe.

The fourth leg of the Stronach 5 will be Golden Gate's third race, a mile event for 3-year-old maidens. Mattawa N That, second in four of his first five starts, is the 9-5 favorite. Command Sgt. Major drops a bit in class after a third-place finish and is listed at 2-1.

The Stronach 5 concludes with Santa Anita's fourth race, a maiden event for 3-year-olds at six furlongs. Marksman On Target (2-1) drops in from maiden special weight restricted company for trainer Gary Stute. The Roan Ranger (4-1) goes as a first-time gelding.

If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.

Stronach 5 Rewards 46 Winning Ticket-Holders With $1,800

There were 46 winning tickets in Friday's Stronach 5 with each worth $1,800.80.

Friday's wager featured races from Pimlico Race Course, Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields along with an industry-low 12-percent takeout.

Friday's first two races of the Stronach 5 began at Pimlico and both races produced prices, with Judi Blue Eyes ($10.80) winning the eighth race, an allowance event at 1 1/16 miles on the turf, and American Patrol ($19.80) winning the ninth race, a $40,000 maiden special weight event for 3-year-olds.

The third leg of the Stronach 5, Gulfstream's ninth race at five furlongs on the turf, was won by 9-5 favorite Missing Link ($5.60). The Stronach 5 headed west for the last two legs of its popular Friday program. Santa Anita's third race was won by the 1-2 favorite Zabava ($3), who registered her eighth career victory and second in her last three starts. The Stronach 5 concluded with Golden Gate's second race and another heavy favorite in Arouse N Go ($4.80) getting a trip to the winner's circle.

Friday’s Stronach 5 Features Four Tracks, Three Turf Races

An interesting sequence of five races from four tracks along with an industry-low 12-percent takeout will make up Friday's Stronach 5.

The Stronach 5 will include races from Pimlico Race Course, Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields.

The action kicks off at 4:34 ET with Pimlico's eighth race, a 5 ½ furlong event for optional allowance claimers led by Colts Neck Stables LLC's Dalton, who returns from a five-month layoff after ending his juvenile season with a second-place finish against the multiple-stakes winner No Cents in the James F. Lewis at Laurel in November. A son of Kantharos, Dalton finished second by a nose in September in the Smoke Glacken at Monmouth Park. Trained by Jorge Duarte Jr., Jevian Toledo gets the mount on Dalton, who has never been off the board in five starts.

Sky's Not Falling enters the race for trainer Mike Trombetta off a fifth-place finish on the turf at Gulfstream Park in his 3-year-old debut. The son of Seville finished third last summer at Saratoga in the Skidmore, second at Woodbine in the Ontario Racing Stakes and third in the Fitz Dixon Jr. at Presque Isle. Victor Carrasco will ride.

Exculpatory, who won his debut March 5 at Laurel for trainer Mark Reid, and Kwist, who broke his maiden at first asking in September for Claudio Gonzalez, return for their second starts.

The Stronach 5 continues with Gulfstream's ninth race, a 7 ½ furlong turf event for maiden fillies and mares. It's wide open with a 7-2 favorite in Maricopa, who drops slightly off a third-place finish. Kayla's Tune returns to the turf, drops from his last turf start, and gets Edwin Gonzalez.

Pimlico's ninth race, a five-furlong turf event for $12,500 claimers, serves as the third leg of the sequence. Algodonal leaves from the rail in her first start since November. The daughter of Afleet Alex closed out her 4-year-old year with her last five races moved off the turf to the main track.

The Stronach 5 heads west for the fourth and fifth legs of the Stronach 5. Santa Anita's third race, a maiden claimer for 3-year-old fillies, has a 2-1 favorite in Circle of Honor, coming off a second-place finish against similar company April 4 for trainer Steve Knapp. Flag Salutes drops in from a restricted maiden special weight for trainer Carla Gaines. David Hofmans sends out Paynter's Love, who finished 1 ¼ lengths behind Circle of Honor last time out.

Golden Gate's third race concludes the Stronach 5. The mile turf event for 3-year-olds with a $20,000 tag has a 6-5 favorite in Qatar Racing's Space Odessey, a son of Malibu Moon beaten less than a length at Golden Gate April 2 after dropping into this condition from a $80,000 maiden claiming event at Santa Anita in February.
