Night of Thunder’s Suesa Goes 4-For-4 At Chantilly

George Strawbridge's Suesa (Ire) (Night of Thunder {Ire}) had registered wins for the Georgina Cabrero-Carlos Laffon-Parias axis in an Oct. 13 debutantes' heat going six furlongs at Chantilly before doubling up over 5 1/2 furlongs back there in the Nov. 10 Listed Prix Yacowlef. She maintained her perfect record when snagging last month's G3 Prix Sigy for new connections, with subsequent G3 Prix de Saint-Georges victrix Ideal Beauty (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) in arrears, and continued the winning trend in taking fashion by turning Monday's G3 Prix Texanita, her fourth straight outing at the Parisian venue, into a procession. Settled 1 1/2 lengths behind last term's G3 Prix du Bois victrix Livachope (Fr) (Goken {Fr}) in second until beyond halfway, the 1-2 favourite tanked forward to lead with 350 metres remaining and kept on powerfully in the closing stages to score by three lengths from Louliana (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}).

“She takes everything in her stride and does everything right,” commented trainer Francois Rohaut. “Carlos [Laffon-Parias] did a great job with her and I am only continuing what he was doing. She loves training, she loves racing, she travels well and has something the others don't have. She is just very good and I get the impression, that with things being so easy for her, she now has a tendency to idle in front. She has earned a trip to Royal Ascot for the [June 18 G1] Commonwealth Cup and I think she will have a great chance. I toyed with the idea of running run her over a mile in the [G1] Poule [d'Essai des Pouliches], but we decided to be conservative and keep her over this trip. Stepping up in trip will come after Ascot, possibly at Deauville in August. For now, we shall take it one race at a time.”

Suesa, the fourth of six foals, is one of two scorers and the leading performer produced by an unraced half-sister to Listed Radley S. placegetter Sheboygan (Ire) (Grand Lodge). Her second dam, Listed Tyros S. third White Satin (Ire) (Fairy King), is kin to stakes-winning GII Honeymoon H. third Chenille (Ire) (Tenby {GB}) and the April-foaled bay hails from a family featuring MG1SW siblings Barathea (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) and Gossamer (GB) (Sadler's Wells). Suesa is a half-sister to Spanish champion juvenile colt Valle Inclan (Ire) (Elusive Pimpernel), a 2-year-old filly by Estidhkaar (Ire) and a yearling colt by The Last Lion (Ire).

Ribchester Colt Streaks to Rising Stardom at Newbury

Richard Hannon trainee Gisburn (Ire) (Ribchester {Ire}) was unable to make all when an Apr. 16 debut fourth tackling five furlongs at Newbury in his only prior start, but the flashy chestnut powered up over six furlongs at the Berkshire venue to earn TDN Rising Stardom in hugely impressive fashion. The well-backed 6-4 favourite was sharpest from the gates and seized an immediate lead. Last off the bridle after halfway, he was given a shake of the reins with 1 1/2 furlongs remaining and surged clear in the closing stages to leave Kingmax (Ire) (Kingman {GB}) trailing 6 1/2 lengths in his wake, becoming the third winner for his freshman sire (by Iffraaj {GB}).

“Gisburn hasn't done much since his first run, but he's a horse Richard [Hannon] has loved from the day he saw him,” revealed winning rider Pat Dobbs. “His debut here was good, but he ran green. He was professional today, although I'd rather he didn't hang right. He's still a baby though, but very exciting, and he put a lot of daylight between them. I'm sure he'll go to Royal Ascot, maybe for the [June 15 G2] Coventry.”

Gisburn is the seventh of eight foals and third scorer produced by Listed Prix Coronation runner-up Disclose (GB) (Dansili {GB}). He is a half-brother to Listed Golden Rose S. victor Encrypted (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) and a yearling filly by Lope de Vega (Ire). Descendants of his second dam Revealing (GB) (Halling), herself a half-sister to G2 Queen's Vase and G3 Park Hill S. placegetter Singleton (GB) (Singspiel {Ire}) and a granddaughter of GI Oak Leaf S. heroine Arewehavingfunyet (Sham), also include G2 Rockfel S. and G3 Oh So Sharp S. placegetter Gavota (GB) (Bated Breath {GB}), G3 Prix Paul de Moussac third Grand Vista (GB) (Danehill) and the dual stakes-placed World Ruler (GB) (Dansili {GB}).

Goffs Unveils €100,000 Sportsman’s Race

Just days after launching The Goffs Million, a €1-million race for 2-year-old graduates of the Orby Sale to be held at The Curragh on Sept. 24, 2022, Goffs announced on Wednesday that the Goffs Sportsman's Challenge, worth a minimum €100,000, will be staged at Naas going six furlongs on Sept. 15, 2022.

Like The Goffs Million, the continent's richest 2-year-old race, the Goffs Sportsman's Challenge will pay out to tenth place. It is open exclusively to graduates of the Goffs Sportsman's Sale, which will take place at Kildare Paddocks this year from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1.

Goffs, additionally, renews its sponsorship of Naas's G3 Lacken S. on Royal Ascot Trials Day on May 16.

Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said, “Goffs Sportsman's Sale is an integral part of Ireland's biggest yearling sales week, coming immediately after the two-day Orby, Ireland's National Yearling Sale. A real trainer's sale, the Sportsman's is a leading producer of 2-year-old winners and we anticipate that the addition of this valuable sales race will see demand increase even further from agents and trainers in Ireland, the UK and right across Europe.

“With the yearling sale inspections commencing we are delighted to announce these two sales races to provide a lift to the industry following the challenges of the past year. Back in Kildare Paddocks this year, we look forward to offering two catalogues of relative superior quality with the additional bonus that every yearling buyer at Goffs, from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1, will be in with a chance to win some major prize money.

“Our two new sales races further bolster Goffs' burgeoning sponsorship portfolio, which from next season will see three high-profile race days throughout September leading right up to the start of Goffs yearling sales with the G1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien National S., Goffs Sportsman's Challenge and Goffs Million worth a combined total of €1.5-million.”

Eamonn McEvoy, General Manager of Naas Racecourse said, “We are delighted at Naas Racecourse to have been approached by Goffs to stage the inaugural Goffs Sportsman's Challenge Race. Races like this are a great addition to the calendar and provide owners with excellent opportunity to win a fantastic purse. We are delighted to extend our partnership with Goffs and great credit is due to them for their recent initiatives.”
