Goffs Orby To Be Held In Ireland

The Goffs Orby Sale will be staged at Kildare Paddocks in Ireland on its originally scheduled dates of Sept. 28 and 29, with Ireland having recently lifted quarantine requirements for most vaccinated visitors entering the country. The Goffs Sportsman's Sale, which had had a contingency plan of Nov. 1 and 2 at Kildare Paddocks, will immediately follow the Orby Sale on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said, “We are delighted and hugely relieved that the Irish Government's latest announcements will allow the Irish National Yearling Sale to be held where it belongs, in Kildare. At this point I would like to thank Tattersalls for their collaborative approach to work on a contingency plan with us should overseas buyers have been unable to come to Ireland. However, I think all of us are pleased that this contingency is not required and each sale can take place at the right time and in the right place. Frankly the Orby and Sportsman's Sales are Irish sales held for Irish breeders to sell their best to the world, and we can now focus on delivering the best trade possible to repay those vendors who have maintained their support. Indeed our superb Purchaser Attraction team are working with our network of international agents as we speak to promote our excellent catalogue to the widest audience and we are just so pleased that buyers from at least the UK, EU and USA can now make definitive plans to come to Ireland.

“Early interest is high and it seems that the Irish Government's cautious approach to reopening is giving confidence to overseas visitors planning their trips as they view Ireland in a most positive light in this context whilst the Goffs Million is focusing potential purchasers' minds as they know that €1-million must be won by this year's Orby yearlings.

“Credit must be given to HRI and Government who have engaged with us in recent days to give us a clear understanding of the way forward, outlining how the vaccination programme will have further progressed by the time of the sale. This reassurance is vital to our plans and demonstrates a pragmatic approach to reopening the country in a way that is sustainable.

“Obviously it would have preferable not to have the uncertainty of recent weeks and we apologise to anyone who has felt inconvenienced. However, at all times we have had to react to a very fluid situation but have worked in what we felt were the best interests of our clients and prioritised their needs with every decision. Hopefully the end result will justify the various actions come sales time.”

Cotai Glory’s Atomic Force Too Strong In the Robert Papin

So dominant in the G3 Prix du Bois over six furlongs at Chantilly June 20, Siu Pak Kwan's Atomic Force (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}) returned to the same course and distance on Sunday to repeat the dose in the G2 Darley Prix Robert Papin. Sent straight to the front by Stephane Pasquier as he had been last time, the 1-2 favourite never looked like relinquishing his advantage en route to a 2 1/4-length success from Baghed (GB) (Twilight Son {GB}). “He's just that type of horse, he's very simple to do anything with,” trainer Kevin Ryan said of the eighth consecutive British-trained winner of this prize formerly staged over 5 1/2 furlongs at Maisons-Laffitte. “He has a high cruising speed and can quicken off it. He puts horses in trouble a fair way out and he's done it again today.”

Atomic Force, who first served notice that he was potent from the front when winning a Hamilton novice for the Hambleton Racing syndicate May 26, is currently the leading representative of his sire's first crop. The last known foal out of Atlas Silk (GB) (Dansili {GB}), his second dam is the Listed Aphrodite S. winner and G2 Ribblesdale S.-placed Marani (GB) (Ashkalani {Ire}) who is herself the leading performer out of the Listed Cheshire Oaks winner Aquamarine (GB) (Shardari {Ire}).

Mehmas’s Beauty Inspire Takes The Anglesey

Hammered down to 1-2 favourite for Saturday's G3 Jebel Ali Racecourse and Stables Anglesey S. at The Curragh following his impressive winning debut over six furlongs here June 25, Beauty Inspire (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) duly landed the gamble after a tussle with Andreas Vesalius (Ire) (Caravaggio) and Hadman (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}). Keen early tracking that duo, the Ger Lyons trainee looked poised for a facile win two out but ultimately had to work to get to the front passing the furlong pole. Grinding it out from there, the Beauty Stable Partnership's chestnut had 1 1/4 lengths to spare over the former in a race marred by the injury to the filly Daisy Peers (GB) (New Bay {GB}). “I was a little bit disappointed he was keen, as beforehand he goes down like a lamb,” commented Keane, who was initiating a group-race double on the card. “He doesn't usually do that at home. He is only a baby and having his second racecourse start, so maybe he was a little bit fresh and eager to get on with it. I was impressed the way he toughed it out considering the way he did it. I'd like to think you would see a better horse the next day with that experience under his belt hopefully.”

Assistant trainer Shane Lyons added, “He wasn't as visually impressive as the first day, but the first day was only a maiden. To be honest, it looks like he hasn't learned an awful lot from the first day. He was very keen in the race and probably disappointed himself a little, as he's a horse that can't hit the front too soon because he's still a baby. He did fight for Colin after. He's a Christian at home and he's obviously a very good horse. We'll take him home and let him tell us when he's ready again. It could be the [G1] Phoenix [at The Curragh Aug. 8] or the [G1] Middle Park [at Newmarket Sept. 25]. He has entries in York as well. Colin said he loved the ground, which is a help. He's a lovely horse, we knew that the first day and we would have been disappointed today if he had been beaten.”

Beauty Inspire is out of Darwell (Ire) (Zamindar), who is a daughter of the G2 Queen Mary S.-placed Ceedwell (GB) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) from the family of the German group 3-winning sprinter Mis Gazon (Ire) (Royal Academy). Her yearling colt is by Dragon Pulse (Ire).

Goffs Topper Qatar-Bound

Three-year-old gelding Wood Ranger (Ire) (Kodi Bear {Ire}) is bound for Qatar after selling to Hassan Abdul Malik for €64,000 to top the Goffs Online Summer Sale, which concluded on Tuesday. Wood Ranger (lot 19) was sold from Willie McCreery's Rathbride Stables, having won two of nine starts including a five furlong Class 4 handicap most recently at Naas on June 23.

The Aga Khan Studs was responsible for six of the 18 offerings, and its Ebasari (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) (lot 1) is set for a change of code after being bought by Willie Mullins for €47,000.

Commenting on the sale, during which nine horses sold for an aggregate of €174,000, average of €19,333 and a median of €10,000, Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said, “We are pleased with a satisfactory level of trade in our Online Summer Sale which proved once again that Goffs Online is a timely and successful platform for selling horses in training to an international audience at relatively low cost to the vendor. Goffs Online has turned over more than €10.5 million since its introduction in 2020 and is now a permanent fixture at Goffs, offering an additional avenue to the market place at all our sales both in person and virtual.”
