Goffs Million Attracts 24 For Its First Edition, As Purse Rises To €1.234M

The first edition of the Goffs Million has drawn 24 horses to the Curragh for the seven-furlong race on Saturday, Sept. 24. Now worth €1.234 million, up from the original purse of €1 million, the race consists of 12 Irish-trained entries and a like number of British-trained entries, and is open exclusively to Goffs Orby Yearling Sale alumni. The Goffs Million is part of the Curragh's two-day Autumn Festival of Racing alongside the G2 Alan Smurfit Memorial Blandford S. on day one.

Remaining in the field after the final forfeit stage are the listed winners Hellsing (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}) and Beauty Crescent (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}), as well as the maiden winner Hiawatha (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), a full-brother to dual Group 1 winner Luxembourg (Ire) (Camelot {GB}). Wahaaj (Ire) (Gregorian {Ire}), second in the G3 Solario S. and Oviedo (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), third in the G3 Acomb S., will also take part.

Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said, “We are delighted to see such a quality line-up for the Goffs Million. The journey to the Million began this time last year when the owners selected them as yearlings at the Orby Sale, and we can't wait to see their Million dreams come to fruition on Saturday. The prize fund has increased to €1,234,000 with any surplus of entry fees added back into the pot along with our sponsorship fee and HRI contribution.

“Goffs Million is all about the horse and, together with the Curragh, HRI, AIRO and the ITBA, we have put a lot of work into creating a day that celebrates the racehorse, including a real focus on the information and entertainment racegoers will have access to on course, while for connections of the Million runners we will ensure they have a truly memorable day.”

Dark Angel’s Barefoot Angel Springs 20-1 Shock At Ayr

Richard Fahey trainee Barefoot Angel (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}–Love In The Desert {GB}, by Lemon Drop Kid) bettered an Aug. 1 debut second at Ripon with an Aug. 25 breakthrough at Carlisle and continued on the rise with an impressive tally at long odds in Saturday's G3 Virgin Bet Firth Of Clyde Fillies' S. at Ayr, her third straight start at the six-furlong trip.
