‘A Complex Full of the Famous Donny Rockets’ – 450 Yearlings in Premier

The catalogue for the Goffs Premier Yearling Sale, which boasts 450 yearlings set to sell at Doncaster on Aug. 29 and 30, can now be viewed online.

All yearlings sold through the auction will be eligible for the Harry's Half Million, currently known as the Goffs Harry Beeby Premier Yearling S. and re-branded for 2024 in honour of Goffs UK's late Chairman Harry Beeby. Next year's race will still be held at York with a guaranteed prize fund of £500,000.

“The 2023 Premier Sale catalogue remains true to the central pillars of the sale's long enduring philosophy,” Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent said. “Buyers already know what they are going to be presented with when they arrive at Doncaster in August–a complex full of precocious, athletic yearlings.To put it another way–a complex full of the famous Donny Rockets.”

Some of the more notable offerings for the sale include a Showcasing (GB) half-sister to the G2 winner Without A Fight (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) out of the G3 winner Khor Sheed (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), selling as lot 5; a Siyouni colt out of the G1-placed mare Lady Darshaan (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}) and a half-brother to the Listed winners Beholding (GB) (Le Havre {Ire}) and Let's Go (Street Cry {Ire}) catalogued as lot 11; a Wootton Bassett (GB) half-brother to the G2 winner Trillium (GB) (No Nay Never) (lot 48); and a Kingman (GB) filly (lot 123) out of the G3 winner mare Queen of Bermuda (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}). Other standouts include lot 234, a Sea The Stars (Ire) colt out of a Frankel (GB) half-sister to the G2 winners Spirit Quartz (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), Caspian Prince (Ire) (Dylan Thomas {Ire}) and Tuscan Gaze (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}); and lot 433, a No Nay Never colt out of an Invincible Spirit (Ire) half-sister to the G1 winner Lillie Langtry (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), the dam of G1 winners Minding (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Tuesday (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).

“We continue to invest in this sale and its bright future and earlier this year we announced that we are rebranding the sale's long enduring race at York and significantly increasing the guaranteed prize fund,” Kent continued. “For next year's race, for which all yearlings sold this year are eligible to enter, all runners will be racing for their share of £500,000 in the re-branded Harry's Half Million by Goffs.

“When the race was launched over 20 years ago it was Europe's richest 2-year-old race and since then it has been won by some outstanding horses; Acclamation, Dark Angel, Tasleet and Wootton Bassett to name but a few, and increasing the prize fund to £500,000 demonstrates our commitment to the race and the Premier Sale.”

Mike Newbould Partial Dispersal Set For Goffs UK August Sale

A 13-lot partial dispersal of Mike and Eileen Newbould will take place during the Goffs UK August Sale at Doncaster on Aug. 8-9.

All lots will be offered by Jamie Railton Sales Agency, and the draft will consist of seven horses-in-training, two unraced geldings, a yearling, and three in-foal mares with foals at foot. Headlining the consignment is Third Time Lucki (Ire) (Arcadio {Ire}), who is a dual Grade 2-winning chaser, with novice chase victories at Cheltenham and Doncaster. Also set to sell are triple winner West Cork (GB) (Midnight Legend {GB}), who is Grade 2 placed, and listed winner Wilde About Oscar (Ire) (Oscar {Ire}), among others. All three mares have Dink (Fr) foals at foot, with Authorized Pursuit (GB) (Authorized {Ire}) carrying to Midnights Legacy (GB), Roman's Empress (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) is in foal to Dink, and Sherry (GB) (Tobougg {Ire}) is pregnant to Ocovango (GB).

Havana Grey’s Jasour Goes Last To First In The G2 July S. At HQ

Al Mohamediya Racing's twice-raced maiden winner Jasour (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}–Twilight Thyme {GB}, by Bahamian Bounty {GB}), previously untested at stakes level, was clearly the best of a nine-strong field in Thursday's G2 Kingdom of Bahrain July S. at Newmarket, powering by every opponent in the closing stages to win the six-furlong contest in decisive fashion. The 16-1 chance was placed under immediate restraint and trailed all eight rivals after an alert getaway from the stands' side gate. Making smooth headway into contention after halfway, he was shaken up to launch his bid approaching the final furlong and quickened impressively up the hill to win going away, by two lengths, from Lake Forest (GB) (No Nay Never) for a career high.

Jasour shaped with promise when a May 18 debut second over five furlongs at Salisbury and graduated over much the same trip in a low-key maiden at Nottingham last month. This black-type debut, his third start, was his first attempt at six furlongs.

“He always gave us a lot of promise and we felt that dropping him in behind was going to see bigger improvement,” explained winning trainer Clive Cox after notching a first win in the race. “He has just run in two races where nothing has been able to lead him early. Stepping up to six [furlongs] was a step into the unknown, but he is going the right way and I'm happy. I'm so pleased for Sheikh Sultan as he is a big supporter and, following on from Golden Horde, this is a real nice horse to have. He will go to the [G2] Richmond [at Goodwwod] from here, but he will have an entry in the [G1 Prix] Morny and we will see what is what.” The winning owner, His Highness Sheikh Sultan, added, “We are delighted, all of my horses are with Clive and he has been brilliant for Al Mohamediya racing. We knew that ours was good, but the others were good too. Everything worked well and we are happy. There are plenty of races for him in the season.”

Renamed Harry’s Half Million By Goffs Race Will Be Worth 500k In 2024

The Harry Beeby Premier Yearling S. at York will be worth £500,000 and be renamed the Harry's Half Million by Goffs in 2024, Goffs UK announced on Wednesday.

Launched in 1998 by the late Goffs UK Chairman and Honorary President Harry Beeby with current Goffs UK Chairman and Goffs CEO Henry Beeby, the race continues the commemoration of Harry Beeby by the sales company. The 2023 Goffs UK Harry Beeby Premier Yearling S. will be run over six furlongs on Thursday, Aug. 24.

Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent said, “This race has been a huge success for our Premier Sale since its launch over 25 years ago. Every year we hear from owners and trainers 'I would love to win your race'–it has become more than taking home its sizable prizemoney, it's one people want to win and become a part of its heritage which is a wonderful accolade.

“When it was launched, it was Europe's richest 2-year-old race and it has been won by some outstanding horses such as Acclamation (GB), Dark Angel (Ire), Tasleet (GB) and Wootton Bassett (GB) to name just a few. We feel the time is right to further elevate the race's profile and increasing the prize fund to £500,000 in 2024 demonstrates our commitment to it–whilst it will also be a big draw card for buyers ahead of this year's Premier Yearling Sale on 29-30 August.
