New Records For Goffs UK Spring Store Sale

At the conclusion of the two-day Goffs UK Spring Store Sale at Doncaster, demand for quality stores produced record-breaking results across the board.

Although the top price on Tuesday of £105,000 did not match the £165,000 set on Monday, a buoyant middle market resulted in 115 sold from 133 (86.5%) offered. Over the two days of selling, 41 lots brought £50,000 or more, up from 22 lots in 2019. The gross was £7,191,500 with 224 sold from 271 through the ring. The average was £32,105 (+21%) and the median was £27,000 (29%).

One of two six-figure lots on Tuesday was the sale topper, lot 193, a gelded son of Saint des Saints (Fr) from Rathmore Stud. Aiden Murphy and Kim Bailey joined forces to secure the grey for £105,000. He is out of the French listed-placed mare Nomad Attitude (Fr) (Martaline {GB}).

Also breaking into six figures was a filly by Kayf Tara (GB) (lot 295). She was offered by Goldford Stud and drew a winning bid from Olly Murphy and Aiden Murphy. A half-sister to listed-placed chaser Angel of Harlem (GB) (Presenting {GB}), the duo are out of Listed Coolmore NH Sires Mares' Hurdle victress Whoops a Daisy (GB) (Definite Article {GB}).

Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent commented, “Just last month, we were saying what an incredible business this is after the success of the Breeze Up Sale and it's happened again this week. Following unprecedented vendor demand for places in this sale, which led to its expansion to two-days, we were hopeful of a successful sale and we marketed this catalogue as arguably our strongest ever. That pre-sale stance made for a nervous few weeks in the build up to this sale and it is wonderful to have delivered on that hype and produced the best set of statistics in the sale's 60-year history.

“Full credit has to go to our vendors–they have backed this sale and sent us some outstanding horses. From the moment we went out on inspections, it was clear that this sale could be something special and we are delighted to have delivered a strong buying bench who embraced the marked increase in quality and drove the market back to its rightful position as one of the Premier NH Store Sales of the year. For many years, the very best stores were sold in Doncaster and its wonderful to be back at the top table where we belong.

“We would like to wish everyone all the very best with their purchases and we now turn our attention to tomorrow's Spring HIT/P2P Sale. We have two top-class days of Horses-in-Training and Point-to-Pointers and we would like to remind everyone that, due to customer feedback, we are starting tomorrow's sale an hour later at 11 a.m.”

Sibling To Sizing John Heads Goffs UK Stores

A Telescope (Ire) half-brother to the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Sizing John (GB) (Midnight Legend {GB}) is among the 301 entries for the Goffs UK Spring Store Sale.

The 3-year-old gelding, who is being offered as lot 138 by Elms Bloodstock, is also closely related to recent G2 Jane Seymour Mares' Hurdle winner Abythingforlove (GB), who is by Black Sam Bellamy (Ire), the late brother to Telescope's sire Galileo (Ire).

Also included in the two-day sale, which takes place in Doncaster on May 17 and 18, is a 3-year-old Dunaden (Fr) half-brother to last weekend's G1 Aintree Stayers' Hurdle winner Thyme Hill (GB) (Kay Tara {GB}), who is slated as lot 234. A recent update has also been provided for the pedigree of lot 100, a half-brother to shock Irish Grand National winner Freewheelin Dylan (Ire) (Curtain Time {Ire}), by the late Presenting (GB).

“Shortly after our team started inspections earlier this year it was apparent that there was likely to be unprecedented demand for places at this sale and that has indeed been the case,” said Goffs UK managing director Tim Kent.

“Early feedback also indicated that there was a clear increase in the quality of horse being aimed at the sale and that standard has followed right through our inspections which bodes very well for the sale in a few weeks.

“The result is arguably the finest selection of stores we have catalogued for the Doncaster Spring Sale and clearly the best catalogue we have produced in recent years. The higher demand and increased quality means we have produced a larger catalogue, 301 horses this year, and expanded the sale to two high-class days.”
