Goffs Land Rover Sale Concludes In Bullish Fashion

Demand was strong for Part II of the Goffs Land Rover Sale on Thursday, with the clearance rate rising to 82% for 174 sold from 213 offered. The gross also improved to €3,109,500 (+59%). The average and median came in at €17,871 (+8%) and €16,000 (+7%), respectively.

Three lots shared honours for the joint-highest price of €50,000, and the first horse to reach that amount was lot 594. The Jet Away (GB) gelding, out of a full-sister to Grade 2 hurdle winner and Grade 1 runner-up Emitom (Ire) (Gold Well {GB}), was offered by Tullycanna Stables and found a new home with Milestone Bloodstock.

Fillies by Workforce (GB) (lot 644) and Doyen (Ire) (lot 645) reached that amount later in the day. The former, already half-sister to a winning point-to-pointer, was part of the Kellsgrange Stud draft and sold to Charlie and Francesca Poste. Her dam is a full-sister to the Grade 1-placed Rindoon (Ire) (Beneficial {GB}).

Boardsmill Stud consigned lot 645, who is out of the Grade 3-placed Benny's Fagartha (Ire) (Beneficial {GB}). Baltimore Stables bought the April-foaled bay.

“With so many sales these days one of the joys of the Goffs Land Rover Sale is the need for only one trip to buy classy stores at all levels of the market,” said Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby. “That allows so many of our important UK buyers to take in both Part 1 and Part 2 incorporating 715 lots but only do battle with the airport once. In today's world that is ever more important.

“Today continued the positive trends of the Part 1 Sale with increases in the key metrics and, once again, we are indebted to every vendor and each purchaser for their trust and support. Whilst trade is obviously at a lower level than Part 1 there is no doubt that some future stars were sold today and we look forward to seeing Land Rover graduates performing at all the big meetings in the coming seasons.

“The last three days have concluded a vibrant NH stores sales season for Goffs with strength, depth and consistency at Doncaster Spring and Goffs Land Rover with both sales posting impressive results following massive support from breeders on both sides of the Irish Sea. Sparkling Statistics As Goffs Land Rover Part I Draws To A Close

Demand for stores remained high during the second session of Part 1 of the Goffs Land Rover Sale on Wednesday. The overall clearance rate of the two-day stand reached 90%, while total turnover was €20,406,000 (+25%). The average and median were both up by double digits to €51,792 (+12%) and the median to €45,000 (+13%). Just focusing on Wednesday's session, the gross was €9,642,000 for 189 sold from 216 (87%) offered. The average was €51,016 and the median was €42,000.

Seventeen horses broke the six-figure barrier on Wednesday led by a Blue Bresil (Fr) filly (lot 445). Brown Island Stables offered the bay half-sister to the dual Grade 1-placed hurdler Gentlemansgame (GB) (Gentlewave {Ire}). KB Racing/Rod Moorhead and DJ Bloodstock paid €195,000 for the January foal.

A gelding by Saint des Saints (Fr) (lot 415) from Tally-Ho Stud caught the eye of Mags O'Toole at €170,000. Out of the listed-placed hurdler Fleur des Villes (Fr) (Villez), the February foal is a full-sister to two-time Grade 3 hurdle winner Saint Firmin (Fr) (Saint des Saints {Fr}) and a half to Listed Prix Prince d'Ecouen H. Hurdle scorer Floreign Flower (Fr) (Poliglote {GB}), who was also graded placed.

Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said, “The statistics make for happy reading with an impressive 90% clearance rate, a 12% rise in average, 13% median increase and a massive 41 horses realising €100,000 and over, and all from a sale that is only in its second year as a two-day event following the unprecedented demand for places from all the big farms. The latter stat perhaps most graphically illustrates the progress Land Rover has made as there was just one six-figure lot 10 years ago whilst this year's tally is the most recorded at any store sale.”

Altior’s Camelot Half-Brother Leads The Way At Land Rover Sale

A gelding by Camelot (GB) brought a session-topping €300,000 during the first day of the Goffs Land Rover Sale on Tuesday. Offered by Peter Nolan Bloodstock, lot 93, the half-brother to the outstanding Grade 1-winning hurdler Altior (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}), was purchased by Mags O'Toole. The 3-year-old bay is a son of the G3 Brandon Hotel H. Hurdle heroine Monte Solaro (Ire) (Key of Luck).

One of 25 lots to make six figures or better, the gelding was followed by lot 229, a son of No Risk At All (Fr) that was snapped up by Henrietta Knight for €195,000 from the draft of Moanmore Stables. Out of dual listed-winning jumper Tangaspeed (Fr) (Vertical Speed {Fr}), the bay is a half-brother to a pair of stakes horses.

The other lot to sell for €150,000 or higher was a gelded son of Blue Bresil (Fr), who caught the eye of Highflyer. Lot 211 was part of the Clonmult Farm consignment and made €150,000. Under the second dam, who won a Grade 2 over fences and was third in the G1 Irish Grand National H. Chase, is listed winner and G1 Champion Bumper NH Flat Race second American Mike (Ire) (Mahler {GB}).

Tuesday's session featured a high clearance rate of 92% for 205 sold from 224 offered. The gross was €11,054,000, while the average was up 17% to €53,922. The median was €46,000.

Blue Bresil Filly Takes Top Honours at Goffs Land Rover Part 2

The Goffs Land Rover Sale wrapped on Thursday with a single-session Part 2. Topping proceedings was a 3-year-old filly by Blue Bresil (Fr) (lot 458) from Peter Nolan Bloodstock. The bay, from the family of graded placed hurdler Backinthere (Ire) (Flemensfirth) hammered at €65,000 to Aidan O'Ryan/Gordon Elliott.

Lot 488, another filly, this time Butlersgrove Stud's daughter of Well Chosen (GB), was the second lot to reach or exceed €50,000. She brought €52,000, having caught the eye of Bobby O'Ryan.

From a statistics standpoint, 118 lots sold from 160 offered (74%) for a gross of €1,953,300. The average was €16,553 and the median of €15,000.

“Following a spectacular two-day Land Rover Part 1, today's Part 2 sale took up the mantle and certainly delivered more of the same with advances in all the vital statistics,” said Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby in his end-of-sale statement. “Most noteworthy was the clearance rate which grew by 16 points to a very respectable 74% and, once again, we extend our thanks to our vendors who provided the raw material as well as every purchaser who engaged as they sought to find the next Land Rover star.

“I repeat our thanks to everyone at HRI for their help in working through the protocols to deliver a safe, compliant and vibrant sale. And, as ever, our colleagues at Irish Thoroughbred Marketing have been pivotal to the whole sale as they worked with the Goffs Team to ensure the maximum audience for all three days. We extend our thanks to all our buyers regardless of their spend and wish them the best of luck with their Land Rover purchases as they seek to follow in the hoof prints of so many NH stars of recent years.

“And our vendors. So many of them stepped up with drafts of note and it gave us enormous pleasure to see them rewarded for the faith they placed in the Goffs Land Rover service. It may be a repetitive statement but we are nothing without the horses and can't do it without them.
