GISP Loggins To Stand At Hill ‘n’ Dale At Xalapa

GI Claiborne Breeders' Futurity runner up and 'TDN Rising Star' Loggins (Ghostzapper) will stand alongside his sire at Hill 'n' Dale it was announced Monday.

“Loggins was a brilliant two year old, breaking his maiden in hugely impressive fashion at Churchill and narrowly beaten by Champion Forte in the GI Claiborne Breeders' Futurity in only his second start. It is too bad he got hurt as I am certain he was a Grade I talent. I love the influences in his pedigree and he is a stunner to look at. Ghostzapper continues to be a great sire and I think Loggins was his most precocious 2-year-old while only scratching the surface of his ability. This recipe has worked for us in the past with the likes of Maclean's Music. I think Loggins will become another important Hill n Dale stallion,” said John G. Sikura, President of Hill 'n' Dale at Xalapa.

Liz Crow added, “Brad Cox and I were intent on purchasing the best colt at Saratoga regardless of price. Loggins, hands-down, was the most impressive physical at the entire sale. He was an absolute 'must-have' colt. He ended up selling as the highest-priced colt of the year for his sire.”

Trainer Brad Cox said: “He was my Derby horse. Loggins was an incredibly fast, precocious, beautiful horse with immense ability. A true Grade I talent.”

A stud fee has not yet been announced.

Stephen Foster Preview Day Headlines Saturday’s Graded Action

Lucky Seven Stable's Rattle N Roll (Connect), winner of this term's GIII Ben Ali S. Apr. 22 and GIII Pimlico Special S. The $1-million GI Stephen Foster will now be held four weeks later at Ellis Park.

The Ken McPeek-trained 2021 GI Claiborne Breeders' Futurity winner will face seven rivals from his rail draw, including the re-opposing Ben Ali second and third-place finishers Call Me Fast (Dialed In) and Pioneer of Medina (Pioneerof the Nile); and grassy MGISW Santin (Distorted Humor), who makes his first career start on dirt.

The 11-race Churchill Downs program also includes: the GIII Arlington S., led by 8-5 morning-line favorite and MGSW 7-year-old gelding Set Piece (GB) (Dansili {GB}); the GIII Shawnee S., featuring the streaking Frost Point (Frosted) and GISW Pauline's Pearl (Tapit); a field of six 3-year-old fillies in the grassy GIII Regret S.; the return of last out G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen winner Sibelius (Not This Time) in the $225,000 Aristides S.; and the $225,000 Audubon S. for 3-year-olds on grass.

Silver Knott (GB) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) and 'TDN Rising Star' Far Bridge (English Channel), meanwhile, figure to vie for favoritism in Belmont's GII Pennine Ridge S. The former, 11th in the G1 Qipco 2000 Guineas May 6, came within a nose as the favorite in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Keeneland Nov. 4. Far Bridge suffered his first career defeat falling just a nose short while making his stakes debut in the GII American Turf S. on the GI Kentucky Derby undercard.

GISP Loggins Retired

GISP Loggins (Ghostzapper-Beyond Blame, by Blame), a TDN Rising Star following an 8 1/2-length victory at Churchill Downs last September, has been retired from racing. Stud plans are pending.

Purchased for $460,000 at Fasig-Tipton in Saratoga, the Popatop-bred colt was campaigned by a partnership consisting of Spendthrift Farm LLC, Steve Landers Racing LLC, Martin S. Schwartz, Michael Dubb, Ten Strike Racing, Jim Bakke, Titletown Racing Stables, Kueber Racing LLC, Big Easy Racing LLC, and Winners Win.

Agent Liz Crow, reflecting on the purchase of Loggins in Saratoga, said, “When we bought Loggins in Saratoga, Brad Cox and I thought he was the best physical in the sale. We relooked at our list the evening before the sale and felt he was a must have.”

He had athleticism, power, and was very mentally tough.”

Following his impressive win in Kentucky, he returned to be a close-up second behind ultimate juvenile champion Forte in the GI Breeders' Futurity.

“Loggins was a beautiful yearling. I was quickly drawn to him given the fact we had trained the mare,” said trainer Brad Cox. “He was a precocious, fast 2-year-old that showed brilliance from day one. His race in the GI Breeders' Futurity may have been one of the most impressive races by a 2-year-old that season.”

“We were looking forward to running him in the classics after that performance. Unfortunately, he had a setback he could not come back from. He was cut out to be special.”
