Doyle Brings Up The Guineas Double On Cachet

James Doyle took his buoyant mood from Saturday's G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas win on Coroebus (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) into Sunday's G1 Qipco 1000 Guineas and got the same result as he steered Highclere Thoroughbred Racing's 16-1 shot Cachet (Ire) (Aclaim {Ire}) to an all-the-way success in the Newmarket Classic. Third behind Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}) in the course-and-distance G1 Fillies' Mile in October, the George Boughey-trained TDN Rising Star had come back to win the seven-furlong G3 Nell Gwyn S. here Apr. 12 and relished her front-running role on her biggest stage yet at this venue she adores. Staying on strongly enough to hold the Fillies' Mile runner-up Prosperous Voyage (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) by a neck, it was left to Tuesday (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) to fill the places, 1 3/4 lengths away in third as her stablemate and 11-4 favourite Tenebrism (Caravaggio) failed to threaten in eighth. “I'm not quite so emotional today as I was yesterday, but it's still very much enjoyable and great for Highclere and George and his team,” the winning rider said. “George felt she'd see the mile out better as she had developed stronger over the winter and she loves it here. She almost eyes up the dip and flies through it like its not there.”

It was the fifth time that a jockey had completed the 2000/1000 Guineas double in the same year since 1967. Ryan Moore had booted home Gleneagles (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Legatissimo (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) in 2015 and Kieren Fallon scooped his double aboard Footstepsinthesand (GB) (Giant's Causeway) and Virginia Waters (Kingmambo) in 2005. Prior to that, the legendary Lester Piggott had done the same with British Triple Crown hero Nijinsky II (Northern Dancer) and Humble Duty (GB) (Sovereign Path {GB}) in 1970. Jockey George Moore turned that trick just three years earlier in 1967 with Royal Palace (GB) (Ballymoss {GB}) and Fleet II (Ire) (Immortality {GB}).

Earning TDN Rising Star status with a 5 1/2-length debut success here last May, Cachet took the usual road to Royal Ascot and was met by the storm which delivered the relentless rain that blighted the Friday of the meeting in the G3 Albany S. Not disgraced when fifth there, she was back in town eight days later for the July Course's Listed Empress S. and failed to inspire when third before moving up to seven to fill the same spot in the Listed Pat Eddery S. returning to Ascot on the King George undercard. Rested until the G3 Prix d'Aumale over a mile at ParisLongchamp in early September, her star had appeared to dim as she was only seventh but there was renewed hope as she ran second to Hello You (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) in the G2 Rockfel S. reverting to seven back at this track later that month. Her subsequent effort in the Fillies' Mile was another step forward, as was a fourth at Del Mar when attempting to make all in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.

Throughout the three days of the Guineas meeting, it had paid to be prominent or on the lead and Doyle had the equivalent of a perfect storm as he set off on the willing Cachet. Chased by Discoveries (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}), Prosperous Voyage and Tuesday throughout, she had that trio in trouble passing halfway before turning the screw on old rival Hello You soon after. As Frankie kept working on the Ballydoyle second-string, he could only observe as the finish was decided between the two fillies who had been in the wake of his beloved Inspiral back in October with nothing able to close out of the pack.

Cachet's rookie trainer Boughey was basking in the breakthrough moment afterwards and paid tribute to the winner's constitution. “She's made of iron,” he said. “She was a bit of a bridesmaid last year, but has taken her form to another level and been improving. She had a problem with the gates at the end of last year, but has settled down and is more sound mentally as well as physically. It's hard to pick faults in her–she thrives on her racing and the next morning after the Nell Gwyn she was bouncing around. I gave her a break in the middle of last summer and probably left her a bit short for France and she kept improving afterwards. She loves fast ground and we'll probably go to Ascot [for the June 17 G1 Coronation S.] next.”

“It's a long year and that gives her a nice gap as I'd like to end up at the Breeders' Cup again at the back end of the year,” Boughey added. “She's a group one winner over a mile now and she can go anywhere in the world, which is massive. The fact that she likes fast ground makes her a global filly which is huge for us and huge for her, so it's very exciting. It sounds bizarre coming out of my mouth! It's pretty surreal.”

Trainer Ralph Beckett said of the runner-up Prosperous Voyage, “We just ran out of road, but that is life. It was a terrific effort and she will probably go a mile and a quarter now. She is in the [G1] Prix Saint-Alary and that might be an option. I never felt she would get further than 10 furlongs, but we will see.” Aidan O'Brien said of his pair, “Tuesday ran very well and we are delighted with her run. The Oaks is possible, but she could go to an Irish 1000 Guineas on the way. Ryan [Moore] said it was a little bit rough early for Tenebrism and that might have taken its toll on her, but we will get her home and see. There is always a chance that the trip might have been too far, but we will get back and see but we thought she would get the mile. There are still plenty of big days for her.”

Having been her sire's first winner, Cachet has paid her second-crop sire the ultimate compliment here. She is the third foal out of Poyle Sophie (GB) (Teofilo {Ire}), a half-sister to Poyle Meg (GB) (Dansili {GB}) who was responsible for the GIII San Francisco Mile winner and GII Mathis Brothers Mile third Whisper Not (GB) (Poet's Voice {GB}). This is also the family of the G2 Lowther S. winner Jemima (GB) (Owington {GB}) and her sire son English Colony (GB) (Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}) and GII Fantasy S.-placed daughter Jemima's Pearl (Distorted Humor). Poyle Sophie has a 2-year-old filly by Kuroshio (Aus) and a yearling filly by Cotai Glory (GB).

Aclaim’s Cachet On Top In The Nell Gwyn

Benefitting from the absence of Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}) in Tuesday's G3 Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn S. at Newmarket, Highclere Thoroughbred Racing's TDN Rising Star Cachet (Ire) (Aclaim {Ire}) provided the Gosdens' luminary with a timely boost ahead of the upcoming 1000 Guineas. Keeping it simple on last year's G1 Fillies' Mile third and G2 Rockfel S. runner-up, William Buick who was chasing a treble on the card stayed away from the main pack racing near the pace and when set on her way approaching three out asserted for a comfortable 2 1/2-length defeat of Almohandesah (GB) (Postponed {Ire}), with old rival Hello You (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) 1 3/4 lengths away in third. “She was doing it on ability at two and was quite weak,” trainer George Boughey commented, before pointing the way to a Guineas rematch with Inspiral. “She loves the track and that is a huge string to her bow here and she will roll forward and she will be giving us a shout a furlong out. She will see the mile out.”

Cachet had earned TDN Rising Star status with a 5 1/2-length novice win on debut here in May before tackling group and listed company on her next seven starts. While most fillies would have regressed from tough encounters during a busy season, the bay kept fighting and after chasing home Hello You in the Rockfel was 2 3/4 lengths off Inspiral in the Fillies' Mile and on the plane to Del Mar. Ahead of Hello You when fourth behind Pizza Bianca (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) and Malavath (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, she became the second filly to re-emerge from winter quarters and uphold that form with the latter successful in last week's G3 Prix Imprudence.

Taking the same racing line as she had in the Fillies' Mile, Cachet was always in her comfort zone here and there are reasons to be positive about her stamina for her biggest test on the first Sunday in May. Her dam Poyle Sophie (GB) (Teofilo {Ire}), who raced over middle distances at a far lower level, is a half to the dam of the GIII San Francisco Mile scorer and GII Mathis Brothers Mile third Whisper Not (GB) (Poet's Voice {GB}). The family includes the G2 Lowther S. winner Jemima (GB) (Owington {GB}), who in turn produced the multiple stakes-winning sire English Colony (GB) (Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}) and the GII Fantasy S. third Jemima's Pearl (Distorted Humor). Poyle Sophie's 2-year-old filly is by Kuroshio (Aus), while she also has a yearling daughter of Cotai Glory (GB).

Oscula, Breeze Easy Added To Tattersalls December

Oscula (Ire) (Galileo Gold {Ire}), winner of the G3 Prix Six Perfections this season and third in the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac, and Breeze Easy (GB) (Bated Breath {GB}), twice listed-placed at two this year, have been added as wildcards to the Tattersalls December Mares Sale and will be offered on Nov. 30. Oscula will be offered as lot 1823A by trainer George Boughey's Saffron House Stables, and Breeze Easy as lot 1888A by Ty-Derlwyn Farm.

Bought by Michael Aguiar for just 4,000gns at Book 4 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale last year, Oscula has made 10 starts this year in the Nick Bradley Racing silks, finishing off the board just twice. In addition to her aforementioned highlights, Oscula also won Epsom's Woodcote S. and was placed in the G3 Albany S., G2 Prix du Calvados and G2 Rockfel S.

Oscula is from the family of G2 Mill Reef S. winner Galeota (Ire), as well as the Group 3-winning siblings Brown Sugar (Ire) and Burnt Sugar (Ire), and this year's G2 Mill Reef S. winner Wings Of War (Ire).

Breeze Easy was a 30,000gns Tattersalls October Book 2 yearling and was pinhooked for £240,000 at Goresbridge in June. She broke her maiden going six furlongs at Carlisle in August and has since placed in York's Listed Rockingham S. on Oct. 9 and Newbury's Listed Radley S. on Oct. 23.

Corazon’s G3 Prix d’Arenberg Win A Stakes First For Markaz

Syndicate supremo Nick Bradley and George Boughey hooked up to secure the trainer's first pattern-race triumph with Oscula (Ire) (Galileo Gold {GB}) in last month's G3 Prix Six Perfections at Deauville and the burgeoning axis repeated the dose as their 2-year-old filly Corazon (Ire) (Markaz {Ire}) battled to a career high in Thursday's G3 Prix d'Arenberg over the straight five furlongs at ParisLongchamp. She had earlier registered a July 30 debut fourth tackling five furlongs at Worlverhampton, graduating in an Aug. 10 novice test over the same distance at Lingfield last time, and went postward as a 17-2 chance for this stakes and turf bow. Corazon broke sharply and occupied a front-end berth through the early fractions of this dash. Scrubbed along once headed at halfway, she was under the full weight of Mickael Barzalona's drive when tackling Listed Prix La Fleche victrix and G3 Prix de Cabourg runner-up Dizzy Bizu (Ire) (Caravaggio) passing the furlong marker and would not be denied in the closing stages to edge that rival by a neck in game fashion, becoming the first stakes winner for her second-crop sire (by Dark Angel {Ire}).

“It's great to have another stakes winner for Nick [Bradley], he's the biggest supporter of my yard and so we're very happy,” said trainer George Boughey after claiming a second pattern-race success. “Mickael [Barzalona] is world class and has given her a peach of a ride. I was pretty keen for him to make plenty of use of her, to get her out and get her going. We've been pretty keen to make sure we have the right people on board when we travel to France and Mickael has done us another favour. The race looked a good opportunity and she'd worked like a filly that should be running in stakes races. It might have come one step too soon, but she was equal to it. She's always shown plenty of pace at home and I would imagine she will get six furlongs. Her work has always been pretty good and she's come a long way in a very short space of time. We'll get her home and see how she is, but I haven't really got a concrete plan for her. It wouldn't be a surprise to see her get an entry in the [G2] Flying Childers [at Doncaster next week]. I know that's a quick back-up, but it is a Group 2. She deserves a short break in training and there are lots of races she can go for towards the end of the season.”

Corazon, kin to a yearling filly by Dandy Man (Ire), is the fourth of five foals and leading performer from two scorers produced by a winning daughter of Dissonance (Ire) (Rossini), herself an unraced full-sister to G3 Firth of Clyde S. victrix Golden Legacy (Ire). Golden Legacy, in turn, is the dam of G3 Prix de Meautry runner-up Stake Acclaim (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) and hails from the family of G1 Japanese 2000 Guineas-winning sire Hawaiian Image (Jpn) (Father's Image), G1SW Chilean champion Prince Albert (Arg) (Slewsville), MGSW sire Saritamer (Dancer's Image) and MGSW G1 Cheveley Park S. runner-up Risky (GB) (Risk Me {Fr}).
