Found’s Sister Wins the Flame of Tara

As a daughter of Red Evie (Ire) (Intikhab), it was surely only a matter of time before Divinely (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) made her presence felt in Irish racing’s theatre royal and the moment came on Friday as she swooped in the G3 Kilcarn Stud Flame of Tara Irish EBF S. at The Curragh. A maiden after three starts entering this test, with her latest effort resulting in a fourth placing when ridden forward in a Cork maiden over this mile trip Aug. 8, Ballydoyle’s full-sister to the Arc and Breeders’ Cup Turf heroine Found (Ire) was anchored in rear this time by Wayne Lordan. Delivered with that familial surging run down the outer to gain the lead with 75 yards remaining, the 5-1 shot asserted for a half-length defeat of Ahandfulofsummers (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), with Ubuntu (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) a short head away in third.

Divinely was fifth on debut in the star-studded seven-furlong Leopardstown maiden June 21 which featured the subsequent group scorers Minaun (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) and Shale (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), as well as the impressive subsequent winners Meala (Ire) (Epaulette {Aus}) and Angel Palm (GB) (Dark Angel {Ire}). Second next time and no match for No Speak Alexander (Ire) (Shalaa {Ire}) in a Roscommon maiden over an extended seven July 7, the bay was behind two of today’s rivals in Emaniya (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) and Ahandfulofsummers at Cork last time so was as unconvincing on the formbook as she was undeniable on pedigree lining up here. If it needed any further proof, this year has shown more than any other that this talismanic stable’s runners always require respect despite what their race records show. Her cause may have been helped by the fact that the aforementioned likely favourite Meala was withdrawn and Emaniya stumbled badly leaving the stalls.

Leading home a one-two-three for Susan Magnier, who was owner or part-owner of all the main protagonists from three different stables, Divinely was steered by Lordan as Seamie Heffernan is on a three-day suspension. He commented, “That’s a nice way for her to break her maiden. She had a good run in very deep ground in Roscommon. I thought making the running in Cork wasn’t the ideal thing, but getting a lead today she travelled well and toughed it out well. You would imagine the way she went to the line that she is a filly that is going to stay really well.”

As already mentioned, Divinely is from a family of high-achieving distaffers, with the dam Red Evie being the G1 Lockinge S. and G1 Matron S. heroine. The second of her nine Galileos and first to race was an instant hit, as Magical Dream (Ire) captured the G3 C. L. Weld Park S. at two but it was the 2012 foal who proved such a landmark performer for this stable as Found, who earned TDN Rising Star status on debut at this track, went on to glory in the French showcase and Breeders’ Cup Turf as well as the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac. Her first foal Battleground (War Front) currently holds the distinction of being the stable’s leading juvenile after his wins in the G2 Vintage S. and Listed Chesham S.

Following Found was the smart Best In the World (Ire), whose big day came when successful in the G3 Give Thanks S., and her first foal is another 2-year-old in this yard in the filly Snowfall (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) who was fourth in the recent G3 Silver Flash S. Red Evie’s latest Galileo is a yearling filly.

Enable on Course for Kempton

Dual G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe heroine Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) is pleasing connections ahead of a start in the G3 September S. over the Kempton synthetic on Sept. 5. The 6-year-old Juddmonte silksbearer took the 2018 September S. in advance of her second Arc crown. Second in that ParisLongchamp showpiece in 2019, the John Gosden trainee was also runner-up in the G1 Coral-Eclipse S. to Godolphin’s Ghaiyyath (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) this July, but was back in top form in the G1 King George Vi & Queen Elizabeth S. on July 25.

Enable’s Arc opposition is arguably the stiffest yet, as since the Coral-Eclipse Ghaiyyath rolled by three lengths in the G1 Juddmonte International S. at York on Aug. 19 after taking the G1 Coronation Cup S. in June, his third Group 1 on the bounce.  Standout Aidan O’Brien filly Love (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) was also boosting her reputation recently with a victory in the Aug. 20 G1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks and looms a formidable rival in the Arc. Racing for the Coolmore partners, the sophomore miss claimed that Knavesmire contest by five lengths. In the G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas, the blaze-faced chestnut had drawn off by 4 1/4 lengths and her margin of victory in Epsom’s G1 Investec Oas was nine lengths.

“What we saw from both was no great surprise, really,” said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for Prince Khalid Abdullah. “Both of them had very strong form going into their races–they were both favourites and both won well. Really they just proved what very good horses they are, but I think we already knew that–it wasn’t a surprise.

“Enable is in good form, anyway, and still on course for Kempton. Come the Arc, what will be will be. It won’t be just those two we’ll have to worry about. The Arc is so well revered for a reason-all the opposition merits respect. No Arc is ever easy.”

Maximal Heads to Sandown

Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Sunday’s Insights features a well-bred son of Galileo (Ire).

1.25 Sandown, Mdn, £5,400, 2yo, 7fT
MAXIMAL (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) was taken out of Friday’s Convivial Maiden at York when the ground went against him and it is interesting to see him entered here by Sir Michael Stoute with the ground set to be good-to-soft. Beaten a nose by ‘TDN Rising Star’ Guru (GB) (Kingman {GB}) on an eyecatching debut at Newbury last month, Juddmonte’s son of Joyeuse (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) and half-brother to Jubiloso (GB) (Shamardal) has a vital experience edge over Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum’s notable newcomer Latest Generation (GB) (Frankel {GB}), a Simon and Ed Crisford-trained son of the G1 Moyglare Stud S. and G1 Coronation S. winner Rizeena (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}). Also lurking is Haras de Saint Pair’s unraced John Gosden trainee Mithras (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), a son of the G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches runner-up Irish Rookie (Ire) (Azamour {Ire}) who the Stud purchased for 935,000gns at the 2016 Tattersalls December Mares Sale.

High Definition a New Rising Star At The Curragh

Aidan O’Brien had a duo engaged in Saturday’s Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden over a mile at The Curragh and enjoyed a one-two as the middle-distance types begin to emerge from the stable’s crop of juveniles. While the market favoured Wordsworth (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), the full-brother to the G1 St Leger and G1 Grand Prix de Paris hero Kew Gardens (Ire) ultimately had to give best to the stable’s second-string High Definition (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) who swooped late to score with authority at 7-1. Held up in rear early by Wayne Lordan, the son of the listed scorer and group 3-placed Palace (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) was looking for room two out still anchored at the back. Delivered with a surge to cut through the pack and make up three lengths on that 5-2 favourite, he was going away at the line where he held a 3/4-of-a-length margin over his stablemate, with Flying Visit (Ire) (Pride of Dubai {Aus}) a head away in third.

The winner is a full-brother to last year’s G2 Beresford S. winner and G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy runner-up Innisfree (Ire), GSW-Ire, G1SP-Eng, $141,701, who has yet to be seen this term but was front rank in the Derby picture during the winter. Lordan was impressed with the bay, who is a late-May foal. “He was a little raw early. Through the middle of the race they didn’t quicken away from me and I was getting into a nice rhythm,” he commented. “He finished out comfortably. He’s a lovely colt and he’s going to be a lovely horse next year going a trip.”

Palace was always held in high regard at Ballydoyle and that was evidenced in that fact that she was only 6-1 for the 2014 G1 Irish 1000 Guineas following her second in the G3 Derrinstown Stud 1000 Guineas Trial. Fifth in that Classic before being picked by Ryan Moore in the G1 Epsom Oaks where she was seventh, she went on to gain a vital black-type success in the Listed Cairn Rouge S. over an extended mile having run second in the 10-furlong Listed Naas Oaks Trial. She is a half-sister to this stable’s Furner’s Green (Ire) (Dylan Thomas {Ire}), who took the G3 Leopardstown 2000 Guineas Trial and was a close third in the G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains, as well as the listed-winning G1 Irish Oaks third Lady Lupus (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}), the listed-winning and G3 Solonaway S. third Mystical Lady (Ire) (Halling) and the Lincoln H. winner Bravery (Ire) by Innisfree’s sire Galileo. Mystical Lady is the dam of three black-type performers for Ballydoyle including the Listed Dee S. winner and G1 Irish Derby and G1 Ascot Gold Cup runner-up Kingfisher (Ire) also by Galileo. The third dam is the high-class Sonic Lady (Nureyev), heroine of the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas, G1 Sussex S. and G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp.
