Rep. Stan McClain Honored With FTBOA Award

Florida House of Representatives Stan McClain will receive the inaugural Matt Bryan Distinguished Advocacy Award from the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders' and Owners' Association at their annual Gala Monday. In a press release Friday, the FTBOA acknowledged McClain as helping to extend House Bill 7063, an incentives package for Florida breeding and racing interests.

“We were excited to be able to expand Florida's investment supporting the Florida Thoroughbred industry on a long-term basis,” said McClain. “I'm looking forward to watching how this investment helps the industry thrive in upcoming years.”

Rep. McClain is the first honoree of the Matt Bryan Distinguished Advocacy Award named in honor of Matt Bryan, FTBOA's 30-year veteran lobbyist. Bryan, who will retire at year's end, will also be honored for his career with the FTBOA at the Gala.

Kentucky Derby Museum to Hold Annual Gala

The Kentucky Derby Museum is proceeding with arrangements for its annual gala, which raises funds for the non-profit organization and had to be canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Presented by Central Bank & Trust Co, the Friday, Apr. 23 event will feature an evening of dinner and dancing, all held safely under COVID-19 protocols.

This marks the 34th year for the event, which is the museum's largest annual fundraising effort.

“Kentucky Derby 147 is on, and so is our gala,” said Patrick Armstrong, president & CEO of the Derby Museum. “This decision was made carefully and with much discussion between museum staff and our Board of Directors. It has been a tough year financially for the museum, like many other non-profit organizations. But tourism is slowly bouncing back. We are seeing a nice flow of guests through the museum daily, and feel that people are ready to safely celebrate the Kentucky Derby.”

Money raised through ticket sales helps support the museum's curatorial and educational programs. Tickets, tables, and sponsorship packages are available at DerbyMuseum.org or by contacting Sheridan Gates at sgates@derbymuseum.org.

Kentucky Derby Museum Cancels 34th Annual Gala

The Kentucky Derby Museum has canceled its 34th annual Gala, presented by Central Bank & Trust Co.

With the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, this decision was made in the interest of public health and in the best interest of the community.

Historically, the evening serves as the premier fundraising event for the Kentucky Derby Museum, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization. The rescheduled Gala was slated for Friday, Aug. 28.

“The pandemic has created a very challenging business environment, especially for non-profit organizations like the Kentucky Derby Museum,” said Patrick Armstrong, President & CEO of the Kentucky Derby Museum. “Canceling the Kentucky Derby Museum Gala means losing our largest fundraiser of the year, and it will be yet another hardship we must overcome as a charitable organization. However, we feel certain it is the safest and correct decision at this time.”
