Classic Heroine Even So Sold to Japan

Classic winner Even So (Ire) (Camelot {GB}-Breeze Hill {Ire}, by Danehill), has been sold by Coolmore to Japan for broodmare duties, Irishracing.com reported on Saturday.

Lyons's brother and assistant Shane Lyons told Irishracing.com, “Even So has gone breeding and has been sold to Japan. She was an absolute lady, had a beautiful Dr Devious-pedigree so hopefully she does well over in Japan for her new connections.

“She was a superstar and to win a Classic on home soil, you couldn't get any higher. It's what dreams are made of and she served us well.”

The April foal was bred by Lynch Bages in Ireland and, sent to trainer Ger Lyons, saluted in the 2020 G1 Juddmonte Irish Oaks last July. She also won the Listed Naas Oaks Trial earlier that month and was third in the G3 Park Express S. Owned by Mrs. John Magnier and Mrs. Paul Shanahan, she retires with a record of 8-3-0-2 and $231,791 in earnings.

Even So is the star foal out of her dam, who won in New Zealand as a 4-year-old. Breeze Hill is a half-sister to Irish champion sprinter Archway (Ire) (Thatching {Ire}), English highweight Dr Devious (Ire) (Ahonoora {GB}), who won the G1 Derby, G1 Dewhurst S., and G1 Champion S. and was runner-up in the G1 Irish Derby, the GSW Royal Court (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) and the SW & GSP Shinko King (Ire) (Fairy King). Another half-sister produced English highweight, G1 Epsom Oaks and G1 German Oaks heroine Dancing Rain (Ire) (Danehil Dancer {Ire}). This is also the family of G1 2000 Guineas hero Saxon Warrior (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), G1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen victor Suzuka Phoenix (Jpn) (Sunday Silence) and G1 Emirates S. winner Awesome Rock (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}).

Eight Declared For Saturday’s Juddmonte Irish Oaks

Eight fillies have been declared for Saturday’s Juddmonte-sponsored G1 Irish Oaks at The Curragh. Aidan O’Brien is set to send out half of the the field with a team of four, all daughters of Galileo (Ire), headed by G1 Epsom Oaks runner-up Ennistymon (Ire).

Albigna Camp Mulling Options

Jessica Harrington has “various options” as the next target for Group 1-winning filly Albigna (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}). The 3-year-old holds entries for both the G3 Green Room Meld S. at Leopardstown on Saturday and the G1 Juddmonte Irish Oaks at The Curragh a week later, and could take up either engagement. After winning her first two juvenile starts, including a Group 2 success in the Airlie Stud S., the filly finished sixth behind subsequent dual Classic winner Love (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G1 Moyglare Stud S. before claiming a Group 1 victory in the Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp. A valiant run to finish fourth in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf followed, and she was made favourite for last month’s G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas as a result of those early exploits. The good to firm going hindered her chances in the fillies’ Classic, however, as the daughter of Zoffany could finish only sixth behind Aidan O’Brien’s Peaceful (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). Ground considerations will be significant in deciding her next target.

“She’s in the Meld S. at Leopardstown and she’s also still in the Irish Oaks,” said Harrington. “So we’re yet to decide–there are various options for her. She doesn’t want good to firm ground. As long as the ground is nice, she’s ok–it was just a bit quick at The Curragh on Guineas day, that was all.”

Harrington also issued an update on Millisle (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}), who finished second in the G3 Coolmore Sioux Nation Lacken S. at Naas on Saturday. The filly was running for a second time since reverting to a distance of six furlongs, having previously suffered her heaviest defeat when finishing seventh in the G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas. Despite regaining her form at her preferred trip, the 3-year-old will not take up her early entry in the July Cup and will instead be targeted at a contest closer to home.

“We’ll run over six or seven furlongs now,” added Harrington of the daughter of Green Castle (Ire) (Indian Ridge {Ire}). “We’ll probably look for races in Ireland next–the plan is for her to run her next race here.”

Juddmonte New Sponsor of Irish Oaks

Juddmonte will sponsor the G1 Irish Oaks for the next three years, The Curragh announced via Horse Racing Ireland on Wednesday. The 2020 edition is slated for Saturday, July 18. The distinctive pink, green and white silks have been first past the post three times in the fillies’ Classic-Wemyss Bight (GB) (Dancing Brave) in 1993, Bolas (GB) (Unfuwain) in 1994 and Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) took the 2017 edition. In 2020, Prince Khalid Abdullah’s operation will be represented by homebred fillies G1 bet365 Fillies’ Mile victress Quadrilateral (GB) (Frankel {GB}) and Pocket Square (GB) (Night of Thunder {Ire}). Both of Aidan O’Brien’s 1000 Guineas winners–Love (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the English and Peaceful (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the Irish equivalent–are also set to line up.
