First Starter a Winner for Freshman Sire McCraken at Keeneland

Freshman sire McCraken (Ghostzapper) got immediately off the mark with his first starter at Keeneland Thursday afternoon.

Drawn widest of all in post nine, Crackalacking (f, 2, McCraken–Sacred Moon, by Malibu Moon) forced the issue from an outside third, gained command around the far turn and blew the race apart from there to graduate by five lengths at odds of 18-1.

Extremely well-backed, rail-drawn firster Grand Oak (Ire) (Speightstown), off as the even-money favorite from a 6-1 morning-line quote for trainer Rusty Arnold, was a good second after a tough trip.

It was the first career wins at Keeneland for winning jockey Ferrin Peterson and trainer Sarah Hamilton, respectively.

After producing a colt by Klimt in 2021, the winner's dam was bred back to that sire for 2022.

McCraken, a three-time graded winner and runner-up in the GI betfair.com Haskell Invitational S., stands for $5,000 at Airdrie Stud in Midway, Ky.

2nd-Keeneland, $72,400, Msw, 4-21, 2yo, f, 4 1/2f, :52.67, my, 5 lengths.

Freshman Sire Jungle Cat Off The Mark At Musselburgh

Former Kildangan Stud resident Jungle Cat (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}) became the latest freshman off the mark when the Karl Burke-trained newcomer Miss Jungle Cat (GB), a 60,000gns Tattersalls Somerville yearling, pounced late to snag Saturday's Betway EBF Novice S. going a shade over five furlongs at Musselburgh. In fourth and under pressure at halfway, the 16-5 chance refused to wilt at the business end and kept on relentlessly under a continued drive to deny Explicit (Ire) (Expert Eye {GB}) by 1 1/4 lengths inside the final 100 yards.

Miss Jungle Cat is the ninth of 10 foals and fifth scorer out of a winning half-sister to G3 Prix Saint-Romain scorer Eco Friendly (GB) (Sabrehill). Her second dam is G3 Goldene Peitsche victrix Flower Girl (GB) (Pharly {Fr}). The February-foaled bay is kin to Listed Harry Rosebery S. third Umneyati (GB) (Iffraaj {GB}) and a yearling filly by Havana Gold (Ire).

Gormley Firster Relishes The Slop at Indiana Grand

2nd-Indiana Grand, $34,000, Msw, 9-20, 2yo, f, 5 1/2f, 1:04.86, sy, 3 1/4 lengths.
AWESOMELY SHY (f, 2, Gormley–Awesome Story, by Awesome Again) was pegged at morning-line odds of 9-2, but was completely friendless in the market and was off at 12.50-1 for a high-percentage outfit based south and east at Belterra Park. Straightened out after breaking a bit to her right, the homebred cut out a decent pace on the front end, increased her advantage in upper stretch and was punched out to best even-money Abuela's Humor (Distorted Humor) by 3 1/4 lengths. The 10th winner for her freshman sire (by Malibu Moon), Awesomely Shy is out of a winning daughter of MSW Drexel Monorail (Glitterman), herself a full-sister to the useful MGSW sprinter Champali. Awesome Story foaled a full-sister to the winner this year and was bred back to Cloud Computing. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $20,400. Click for the Equibase.com chart.
