Filly Beats the Boys to Become First Stakes Winner for Good Magic

The Doug O'Neill-trained Vegas Magic became the first black-type winner for freshman sire Good Magic (by Curlin) with a late-closing, nail-biting rush to the front in Pleasanton's Everett Nevin S. One of three fillies going up against colts, Vegas Magic bided her time near the back of the field early, content to let others duke it out up front as the fractions clicked by in :22.07 and :45.17. Still well back in sixth at the top of the stretch, Vegas Magic suddenly closed with a vengeance, splitting horses late and hurling toward the wire in a rush. She got up just in time, winning by a nose as the 6-5 favorite.

Vegas Magic is unbeaten in two starts. The bay was unveiled June 11 at Santa Anita, winning a five-furlong maiden special weight by a length to become her sire's second career winner and is now his first stakes winner. Good Magic, the champion 2-year-old colt of 2017, stands at Hill 'n' Dale Farm near Paris, Kentucky and has four career winners to date.

Girvin Colt Wins For Fun in ‘Rising Star’ Debut

DAMON'S MOUND (c, 2, Girvin–San Antonio Stroll, by Stroll) made his 4-1 odds look like quite a gift in this unveiling, rolling home to a daylight victory and 'TDN Rising Star' honors Saturday at Churchill Downs. Stalking two-wide in mid-pack through a :21.85 opening quarter, the Florida-bred coasted up to take control entering the turn and blasted clear to win by a dozen lengths. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0.

Gustav Klimt Sires First Winner In Milan

The versatile female family is led by Fair Grounds Oaks heroine My Charmer (Poker), Sopran Blakey's fourth dam. Freshman Sire Seabhac Off The Mark At Lyon-Parilly

Seabhac (Scat Daddy) became the latest European freshman sire off the mark when Anton Doerner's homebred Everwin (Fr) (Seabhac–Quatuor {Ire}, by Kodiac {GB}) notched a first winner for the Haras de Saint Arnoult resident in Monday's Prix des Iris, a maiden race for 2-year-olds, at Lyon Parilly.

EVERWIN (FR) (c, 2, Seabhac–Quatuor {Ire}, by Kodiac {GB}) settled off the pace in a midfield eighth for most of this debut. Making smooth headway along the far-side rail once into the straight, the 47-10 chance quickened to the front approaching the final furlong and was pushed clear in the closing stages to easily account for Spirit Grey (Fr) (Charm Spirit {Ire}), by an impressive 3 1/2 lengths, becoming the first winner for his freshman sire (by Scat Daddy).
