Under the care of John and Thady Gosden, the full-sister to the 2018 champion juvenile and G1 Prix Jean Prat and G1 Sussex S.-winning sire Too Darn Hot (GB) and group scorers So Mi Dar (GB) and Lah Ti Dar (GB) meets some other bluebloods in this intriguing affair including Sir Evelyn de Rothschild's newcomer Crystal Starlet (GB) (Frankel {GB}), a Sir Michael Stoute-trained daughter of the talented Crystal Zvezda (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) who is herself a half-sister to the high-class trio Crystal Ocean (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}), Crystal Capella (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}) and Hillstar (GB) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}).

SURELY (IRE) (Galileo {Ire}) is one of two from Ballydoyle alongside the Listed Staffordstown Stud S. third La Joconde (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), but unlike that half-sister to Santiago (Ire) (Authorized {Ire}) comes into this without racecourse experience. A daughter of the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas and G1 Moyglare Stud S. winner Again (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), she is a full-sister to the dual Group 1-placed Delphinia (Ire) and multiple group-placed Delano Roosevelt (Ire).

Frankel One-Two In the Vanteaux

It was all about Frankel (GB) in Sunday's G3 Prix Vanteaux at ParisLongchamp, with the Juddmonte giant supplying the first two fillies home in this early Prix de Diane pointer. While the market spoke very much in the favour of Petricor (GB) carrying the green-and-pink livery, it was the 14-1 shot Rumi (Fr) who had first run on that rival to upset the odds. Racing for Al Shira'aa Farms, the latter who had won in impressive style on her sole 2-year-old start over this course and distance in October and had been fourth just eight days prior to this in a 10 1/2-furlong conditions event at Saint-Cloud. Positioned in a close-up second with the tempo only tepid, she had five lengths in hand on Petricor as a result and it is testament to the ability of the 7-5 favourite that she managed to get on terms and briefly get her head in front a furlong from home. Rumi, who had been committed by Olivier Peslier with over two furlongs to race, had raced more efficiently and despite the effort of Pierre-Charles Boudot to claw back the deficit on the runner-up there was a 3/4-of-a-length margin between them at the line. Omnia Munda Mundis (GB) (Australia {GB}) was the same margin away in third in a race that could prove a significant guide to the Chantilly Classic. “She is a filly I really like and she had won well as a 2-year-old and when she ran eight days ago it was a matter of giving her a race to get her fit for this,” winning trainer Carlos Laffon-Parias commented. “She won nicely and we'll come back here for the [May 24 G1 Prix] Saint-Alary.”

Rumi, who made a splash at the Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale, hails from a proven Wertheimer family with her dam Secrete (Fr}) (Cape Cross {Ire}) being a daughter of the high-class producer Featherquest (GB) (Rainbow Quest). Secrete, whose prior black-type performers are the G3 Prix Noailles third Normandy Eagle (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}) and the Listed Bluebell S. scorer Solage (GB) by Frankel's sire Galileo (Ire), is therefore a half to the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud heroine Plumania (GB) (Anabaa) and the G2 Prix de Royallieu scorer Balladeuse (Fr) (Singspiel {Ire}). Responsible for three black-type performers each, the former is the dam of the G2 Prix du Muguet winner Plumatic (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) and second dam of the Saint Alary third Solsticia (Ire) (Le Havre {Ire}) who took the Listed Prix Zarkava on this card. Balladeuse's trio is headed by the G1 Prix Vermeille heroine and G1 Prix de Diane runner-up Left Hand (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). This is also the family of the G1 Prix Lupin-winning prolific sire Groom Dancer, the G1 Prix Vermeille-winning champion Indian Rose (Fr) (General Holme) and the G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains-winning sire Falco (Pivotal {GB}). Secrete's as-yet unnamed 2-year-old colt is by Galileo (Ire), while she also has a yearling colt by Roaring Lion.

Frankel Filly a Rising Star For Juddmonte

Tuesday's Prix Parade d'Amour for unraced 3-year-old fillies at Saint-Cloud was the stage for the entry of the latest TDN Rising Star for Juddmonte and Frankel (GB) as Wensleydale (GB) cut a dash in the sunshine that preceded a wintry snowstorm. A daughter of the speedy G3 Ballyogan S. winner Divine (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}), the Henri-Francois Devin-trained chestnut was quickly away under Pierre-Charles Boudot before being restrained to track the leaders. Tanking her way to the front with two furlongs remaining, the 5-1 shot showed a sharp turn of acceleration to settle the result and was able to coast to a two-length success from Takemebythehand (GB) (The Gurkha {Ire}). In what could turn out to be a deep contest, there was a 3 1/2-length margin back to the third-placed Goldistyle (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), a daughter of Goldikova (Ire) (Anabaa), while Al Shaqab's Paris (Fr) (Shalaa {Ire}), the second foal out of Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB}), was over eight lengths behind the winner in sixth. “She is a filly I really like and she came into training very late, so she definitely must have room for improvement,” Devin commented. “She's a nice scopey filly with a lovely attitude and I'm sure she has a future.”

Wensleydale was a 700,000gns purchase by the operation at the 2018 Tattersalls December Foal Sale, which placed her in the top five lots overall at that auction. Bred by Juddmonte in partnership with Divine's owners Mohammed Al-Qatami and Khalid Al-Mudhaf, she is the first foal out of the former Mick Channon trainee whose other career achievements include second and third placings in two editions of the G3 Hackwood S. and a win in Pontefract's Listed Flying Fillies S. The latter is a race which can serve as an early advert for serious broodmare potential and was also won by this operation's Arabesque (GB) (Zafonic) prior to her producing the success story Showcasing (GB). The second dam Carallia (Ire) (Common Grounds {GB}) was a listed-placed half-sister to the G1 Prix de la Foret-winning leading Spanish sire Caradak (Ire) (Desert Style {Ire}), while this is also the family of the G1 Nunthorpe S. heroine Margot Did (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}). Divine's 2-year-old filly by Oasis Dream (GB) was bought by Ben McElroy for 210,000gns at last year's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1, while her 2020 full-brother to Wensleydale was another purchase by Juddmonte at 260,000gns at the latest renewal of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale.
