Nashwa Confirmed For Cazoo Oaks

Listed winner Nashwa (GB) (Frankel {GB}) will take part in the June 3 G1 Cazoo Oaks, owner Imad Al Sagar's racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe confirmed on Saturday. The Blue Diamond Stud homebred is two-for-three, running third in a Newmarket maiden last autumn, before trotting up over a mile at Haydock en route to 'TDN Risingstardom' on Apr. 23. Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the daughter of listed winner and G1 Prix Jean Romanet runner-up Princess Loulou (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) then delivered a 1 3/4-length victory under Hollie Doyle in the 10-furlong Listed Haras de Bouquetot Fillies' Trial S. at Newbury on May 14.

“It all comes down to a combination of things,” said Grimthorpe. “You have to ask stamina questions, capability questions, what the owner wants, pedigree, the action of the filly, temperament and I think she ticks a lot of boxes really for Epsom and of course all of these decisions are ultimately down to the owner and Imad is very keen to go to Epsom with the filly.

“I think the nice thing is that wherever she goes after the Oaks, she still has plenty of options.”

Set to be ridden by Al Sagar's retained rider in the Oaks, it would be Doyle's first Classic victory.

He continued, “That would be something wouldn't it [if Doyle could win]. I think if you were searching round for a jockey, she would be very high on the list. So, it is great and exciting to have her on board. The way she has been riding is just exemplary really.”

Mangoustine Relative Catalogued in Auctav May Online Sale

Ourebi (Frankel {GB}), who is a half-sister to the dam of G1 French 1000 Guineas heroine Mangoustine (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}), has been catalogued as lot 8 in the Auctav May Online Sale on May 25. Consigned by Al Shahania Stud France, the bay is out of GIII Miesque S. heroine Louvain (Ire) (Sinndar {Ire}), herself the dam of GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf victress Flotilla (Fr) (Mizzen Mast), stakes winner Louvakhova (Maria's Mon), and the stakes-placed Big Five (GB) (Frankel {GB}). In addition, Ourebi's half-sister Zotilla (Ire) (Zamindar) is the dam of Group 1 winner Mangoustine. Louvakhova has already celebrated group success as the dam of G3 Gallinule S. hero Crossfirehurricane (Kitten's Joy) and has one other stakes winner.

Bertrand Le Métayer, Racing Manager Europe for Al Shahania Stud, said, “Ourebi has a formidable pedigree, a very present pedigree at Haras des Cruchettes. Following the victory in the Poule d'Essai de Mangoustine, it seemed appropriate to us to take advantage of this magnificent spotlight. Ourebi is a sister to the black-type gelding Big Five who is in training with Francis Graffard. We have a lot of hopes placed in this horse in the long-distance races in the fall. He is a group and even a Group 1 horse.

“Ourebi did not run due to a broken withers at two. This is what led us to preserve her and send her directly to stud at three. Ourebi is more on the “fast” side of the family. She walks very well and she has good feet.”

The stakes-winning second dam Flanders (Ire) (Common Grounds {GB}) is also the dam of G1 Betfred Sprint Cup winner G Force (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}).

He added, “It is a very lively family, especially with Flotilla who has a very beautiful 3-year-old by Dubawi (Ire), Safaria, currently in training with Francis Graffard. We then have a 2-year-old colt and a yearling filly by American Pharoah and a foal colt by Sea The Moon (Ger). There is also another Ourebi sister, Camerone (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who has a very nice 3-year-old by Fastnet Rock (Aus), named Solebay (Fr) in training with Edouard Monfort.”

The online auction will last from 6-7 p.m. on May 25. For the full catalogue, please click here.

Limiti Di Greccio And Inspiral To Miss Irish 1000 Guineas

Limiti Di Greccio (Ire) (Elzaam {Aus}) and Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}), both of whom held prominent positions in the betting for Sunday's G1 Irish 1000 Guineas, have been ruled out of making their respective seasonal return in the Curragh Classic.

Paddy Twomey, who trains Limiti Di Greccio, told TDN Europe that his hugely exciting filly will be aimed at races in the autumn after she encountered “a small training problem” while connections of G1 winning 2-year-old Inspiral are charting a path towards the G1 Coronation S. at Royal Ascot with their charge.

Inspiral failed to sparkle in a key gallop under Frankie Dettori on Saturday, after which, her joint-trainer John Gosden advised connections to skip the Irish 1000 Guineas and wait for Royal Ascot.

Speaking on Monday, Cheveley Park's Chris Richardson said, “She's not going to Ireland. John's recommendation is let's go straight to Royal Ascot for the Coronation Stakes.”

Inspiral, unbeaten in four starts as a 2-year-old, with that brilliant juvenile campaign culminating with G1 Fillies' Mile glory at Newmarket, was also ruled out of the 1,000 Guineas last month with Richardson explaining at the time that the filly had not been “100 per cent straightforward” in the spring.

Connections are now concentrating on having Inspiral in top shape ahead of the Royal meeting.

Richardson added, “Frankie had a sit on her on Saturday and just felt we needed a little bit more time, so we'll give her that and hopefully have her cherry-ripe and spot on for the Royal meeting.”

Time is also what Limiti Di Greccio needs, according to Twomey, who pointed to the G1 Matron Stakes in the autumn as being the new target for Martin Schwarz-owned filly.

Twomey said, “She picked up a minor training setback and is not ready to run at the Curragh on Sunday.”

He added, “The plan is to train her with a view towards the second half of the season where races like the Matron Stakes could be targeted.”

In the absence of Limiti Di Greccio and Inspiral, the Aidan O'Brien-trained Tuesday (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Dermot Weld's Homeless Songs (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), herself having skipped Newmarket and more recently ParisLongchamp, are general 5-2 joint-favourites for the Irish 1000 Guineas.

Frankel’s TDN Rising Star Nashwa Sparkles in Newbury’s Oaks Trial

Suddenly, it looks like the Gosdens have a quandary regarding the Oaks after Imad Al Sagar's TDN Rising Star Nashwa (GB) (Frankel {GB}) threw her hat into the ring with a sparkling display in Newbury's Listed Haras De Bouquetot Fillies' Trial S. on Saturday. With much of the space available for the Epsom Classic already taken up with the stable's Emily Upjohn (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}), it may be to Chantilly that this talented individual heads for the June 19 G1 Prix de Diane so as to avoid a clash between the star fillies for now.

The latter 10 1/2-furlong test may be the way to go regardless, as she showed so much speed when breaking her maiden by 6 1/2 lengths over a mile at Haydock Apr. 23 and again here that the sharper trip will come more naturally at present. Anchored in last early by Hollie Doyle, the 5-6 favourite was finally given the command to take her rivals three out and a furlong later was in firm control at the head of affairs without a serious question being posed. Despite the sterling effort of Stay Alert (GB) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) in the run to the line, there was a sense that Nashwa was idling as she recorded a 1 3/4-length verdict with Mukaddamah (GB) (New Approach {Ire}) 1 1/4 lengths further behind, 11 lengths clear of the remainder.

Top-class horses seem to follow Teddy Grimthorpe around and the owner-breeder's racing manager had a new one to reflect on here. “She settled well, quickened well and galloped to the line. She has taken it in her stride in every way,” he said. “She has got options of the Oaks and the Prix de Diane, which is a very nice conundrum. I think the great thing is the way she took herself into the race and lengthened–she is a lovely-striding filly from that point of view and Hollie gets on with her well.”

Thady Gosden hinted that the Diane could be at the forefront of plans. “She posted very smart sectionals at Haydock and she is a filly we have always liked a lot,” he said. “She shows a great attitude. Obviously we were drawn wide today which was not ideal, but Hollie dropped her in and settled her very well at the back and she was very well switched off there. She picked up well in the straight and found a good turn of foot. Obviously, she will have learned from the experience today. They are two different types of horses. Emily Upjohn is a big, rangy girl, where Nashwa is a little more compact. There is Epsom or France for the Prix de Diane and she has plenty of toe, so that will be a possibility.”

Nashwa, half-sister to a yearling filly by Decorated Knight (GB), is the third of four foals and one of two scorers produced by stakes-winning G1 Prix Jean Romanet runner-up Princess Loulou (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}), herself a half-sister to Listed Pomfret S. third Easy Target (Fr) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}). Descendants of the May-foaled homebred bay's dual stakes-placed third dam Sweeping (GB) (Indian King), herself out of G3 Prix d'Arenberg winner Glancing (GB) (Grundy {Ire}), include G1 Middle Park S.-winning sire Awzaan (GB) (Alhaarth {Ire}), G2 Keio Hai Nisai S. winner Ball Lightning (Jpn) (Daiwa Major {Jpn}) and GIII Will Rogers S. victor Media Mogul (GB) (First Trump {GB}).
