Blue Point A Short-Priced Favourite For FSS Honours After Red-Hot Start

The market has reacted to the blistering start Blue Point (Ire) has had with his two-year-olds with the Kildangan-based stallion trimmed into 5-6 favouritism for first-season sire honours with Fitzdares.

Blue Point is operating at a 50 per cent strike-rate, with four winners on the board already in Britain and Ireland, as well as another in France. He has also enjoyed notable success with his offspring in the sales ring at the domestic breeze-up sales.

The in-demand youngster leads Ten Sovereigns (Ire), whose only runner in Britain and Ireland was a winner, in the market, with the Coolmore stallion available at odds of 5-2 with the betting firm.

A spokesperson for Fitzdares said on Friday, “It is of course early in the season, but Blue Point has backed up his initial appeal on paper with some impressive early runners returning a strike-rate of 50 per cent and, with plenty more to come, he looks strong at the top of the market, meaning we've trimmed him into the 5-6 clear favourite.

“We've not seen much from Ten Sovereigns yet, but he's one from one following Brighter's (Fr) win at Dundalk earlier this month. Having covered a big book of decent mares, one can expect that there are more winners to come from him, so we make him a 5-2 second favourite behind Blue Point.”

Fellow Coolmore-based stallion Calyx (GB) has enjoyed a good start to the season, which is reflected by the market. A fast two-year-old himself, being the winner of the G2 Coventry S. in 2018, Calyx has sired two winners in Europe already this season–one in France and another in Britain.

Calyx, although lightly-raced, was a top quality two-year-old and seems to have passed this precocity onto his offspring,” the Fitzdares representative continued.

“Persian Dreamer was hugely impressive at the Craven Meeting and looks destined for Royal Ascot, whilst an additional debut winner in France and some eye-catching performances in defeat mean we think he looks a live contender and have accordingly cut his price into 9-1.”

Fitzdares make Darley's Too Darn Hot (GB) a 13-2 chance, Tally-Ho Stud's Inns Of Court (Ire) a 9-1 shot while Invincible Army (Ire) is 12-1 and Soldier's Call (GB) can be backed at odds of 16-1. Advertise (GB) is available at 16-1 and it's 25-1 and bigger the rest.

Fitzdares Set for Canada Launch

Premium UK bookmaker Fitzdares is ready to break new ground as it launches in Canada this week after receiving its iGaming Operator Registration from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) in March. It is the 140-year-old bookmaker's first foray outside of the UK.

The launch, which is under contract with iGaming Ontario as the exclusive bookmaker, seeks to expand its portfolio and capitalise on a passionate Canadian sporting fanbase. A Super Bowl launch party will be held at Fitzdares' latest luxury pop-up, as their first 100 clients gather to celebrate the arrival of the country's first premium bookmaker. The pop-up will be housed at Toronto's legendary Harbour 60 restaurant, joining their existing UK locations in Belgravia, the Cotswolds and Windsor Racecourse.

“The Ontario market has been saturated with lookalike brands and we hope to bring a new approach to sports betting and iGaming in the province,” Fitzdares CEO William Woodhams said. “We are confident Canadians will enjoy our best-in-class customer service and we cannot wait to permanently open our Club in Toronto for a truly luxurious sports watching experience.”

Dubawi 13/8 Favourite To Be Champion Sire

The bookmaker Fitzdares makes Dubawi (Ire) 13/8 favourite to be champion sire for the first time. Darley's 20-year-old elite sire was third in last year's table in Britain and Ireland behind Frankel (GB) and Galileo (Ire), and he enjoyed an annus mirabilis on the international stage, becoming the first stallion to be responsible for three Grade I winners at the same Breeders' Cup meeting in Yibir (GB), Space Blues (Ire) and Modern Games (Ire).

Juddmonte's reigning champion Frankel is second-favourite to retain his title at 15/8, with the 12-time champion Galileo (Ire), who died last year, at 14/1 and his half-brother and fellow Derby winner Sea The Stars (Ire) priced at 11/4. Kingman (GB), whose eldest runners are now six, was seventh in last year's championship and is 14/1 to take this year's title.

“I think the first thing that was obvious was the lack of older horses in the Aidan O'Brien yard this year and this was a big factor in the price of Galileo,” said Fitzdares' Sam Hockenhull.

“Splitting up the other three was much harder. They all look like they have a potential superstar or superstars that could propel them to the title. However, it was Dubawi who came out on top. The quantity of proven top-class performers running this year is incredible and he looks to hold a very strong hand in the 3-year-old colt department this year.”

Hockenhull added, “We couldn't put Frankel far behind. After what he did last year, we definitely feel he will be popular in this market. His two Derby winners both remain in training and with his 1000 Guineas favourite Inspiral, it looks set to be another big year for him.

“Last but not least was Sea The Stars, who in Baaeed may have the best miler since Frankel himself. He will almost certainly have a very strong hand in the staying division with the likes of Mojo Star and Manobo joining Stradivarius.”

The betting for this year's champion sire in Great Britain and Ireland on total prize-money is as follows:

Dubawi 13/8
Frankel 15/8
Sea the Stars 11/4
Galileo 14/1
Kingman 14/1

Sioux Nation Favoured in Fitzdares First-Season Sire Market

The Coolmore Stud sire Sioux Nation (Scat Daddy), who won the G1 Phoenix S. at two, has been made the 1-2 favourite in the Leading First-Season Sire race by Fitzdares. Close behind him in the market is the 9-4 shot and G1 Flying Five S. victor Havana Grey (GB) (Havana Gold {Ire}), who stands at Whitsbury Manor Stud. Rounding out the top three chances is fellow Coolmore Stud stallion and Classic winner Saxon Warrior (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) at 6-1. Below are the stallions listed by Fitzdares:

  • Sioux Nation at 1-2
  • Havana Grey (GB) at 9-4
  • Saxon Warrior (Jpn) at 6-1
  • Expert Eye (GB) at 10-1
  • Roaring Lion at 14-1
  • Harry Angel (Ire) at 14-1
  • Kessaar (Ire) at 25-1
  • Cracksman (GB) at 33-1
  • Massaat (Ire) at 100-1
  • U S Navy Flag at 100-1
  • Tasleet (GB) at 100-1
  • Gustav Klimt (Ire) at 100-1
  • Rajasinghe (Ire) at 200-1
  • Unfortunately (Ire) at 500-1
  • Washington DC (Ire) at 500-1
  • Lightning Spear (GB) at 500-1
  • Smooth Daddy at 500-1
  • James Garfield (Ire) at 500-1

“We absolutely love pricing up this market, which would be impossible to price were it not for Weatherbys' Stallion Book, Global Stallions app and particularly their Return of Mares,” said Fitzdares Head of Horseracing Sam Hockenull. “It was not hard to pick out Sioux Nation as a short-priced favourite given the huge numerical advantage he has. “We hope in the coming weeks to price up a 'total prize money' market for the first time. In turn, this will hopefully offer a much more competitive market.”
