Ham Sandwich A First Winner For Heart to Heart

1st-Ellis, $40,000, Msw, 7-15, 2yo, 6 1/2f, 1:18.23, sy, 7 1/2 lengths.
HAM SANDWICH (c, 2, Heart to Heart–Voodoo Lounge, by Pleasant Tap) didn't show much in his Horseshoe Indianapolis debut June 10, never advancing further than eighth in a 7 1/2-furlong turf contest. Over a sloppy main track Saturday in a sales price-restricted race, he was eased from the gate and had only one rival beat through a half in :46.22. Kept inside of horses around the turn, he angled through a gap at the top of the lane and drew off nicely to the wire, defeating Tiz My Hero (Bernardini) by 7 1/2 lengths. From the extended family of MGISW Videogenic (Caucasus) and GI King's Bishop S. winner Valid Video (Valid Wager), Ham Sandwich is his dam's last reported offspring and the first winner for his freshman sire (by English Channel). Sales History: $17,000 Ylg '22 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $23,540. Click for the Equibase.com chart.

First Winner for Freshman Sire World of Trouble

Looking to become the initial winner for his freshman World of Trouble, Equinox Inc. and Bobby McIntyre's Untroubled (World of Trouble) posted a front-running score at Horseshoe Indianapolis Tuesday afternoon, giving the Hill 'n' Dale resident the exacta in the five-furlong event. Sent off at 9-5, the Eduardo Caramori trainee broke quickly and was soon confronted Neuvo Amanecer (Mastery), however, was unfazed by his rival through a quarter in :23.39. In control yet drifting outward turning for home, Untroubled kept up the tempo late, crossing the wire 1 1/4 lengths ahead of even-money favorite El Peligro (World of Trouble).

Going a sixteenth shorter in his May 15 debut over this surface, the Kentucky bred came home second, beaten two lengths by Laugh Now (Vino Rosso).

Bred by Equinox Inc., the April foal is out of Rambling Rhonda, a half to MGSW Go Forth North (North Light {Ire}). The 8-year-old mare was bred back to World of Trouble.

Justify Represented By First Australian Winner

Courtesy TDNAus/NZ

Coolmore Stud's Triple Crown hero and dual-hemisphere sire Justify (Scat Daddy) is off the mark in Australia and with a smart one. Learning To Fly (Aus) found plenty at her racecourse debut in Saturday's G3 Widden S. at Rosehill (video), having shown plenty of talent at the trials.

Bred by Katom and purchased by Kia Ora Stud for A$900,000 from the Coolmore Stud draft at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, the Annabel Neasham-trained filly is her sire's seventh worldwide stakes winner and his first winner of any variety on Australian soil.

She is the second foal for the G3 Chairmans' S. winner Ennis Hill (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) whose dam is the G2 Reisling S. winner Hips Don't Lie (NZ) (Stravinsky)–also dam of the Listed winners Lake Geneva (Aus) and Acrobat (Aus), both also by Fastnet Rock.

Served last spring by Snitzel (Aus) after foaling an I Am Invincible (Aus) filly, Ennis Hill also has a Pierro (Aus) filly who is catalogued as lot 117 at this year's Inglis Easter sale.

Learning To Fly boasts a cross of the wonderful mare Crimson Saint (Crimson Satan) via her grandson Storm Cat and son Royal Academy.
