First Reported Foals For Naval Crown

The first reported foals for G1 Platinum Jubilee S. hero Naval Crown (GB) have arrived, Darley Europe announced.

A chestnut colt out of A Touch Of Luck (Ger) (Frankel {GB}) arrived this week. He was bred by Robert Draper. His second dam is G1 Preis der Diana third Aigrette Garzette (Ire) (Peintre Celebre).

Another new arrival was a colt out of Thaleia (Ire) (Tagula {Ire}) from the extended family of multiple group winner Endless Drama (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}). David Ryan of Kilfrush Stud said the colt had “size, scope and bone, a really good foal.”

A bay filly was born on Feb. 2 and bred by Gerrardstown House Stud. She is out of Fleur de Lui (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and was described by Donie Fahy as having “good size and scope. Very correct filly with a lovely head.” She is a relative of the Group 1 winner The Revenant (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}).

Two other fillies have also been reported so far–a daughter of Golden Angel (Ire) (War Command) who arrived in late January at Hawes Stud and a filly out of Iffa Red (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}) bred by Kilweelran, Ltd. Michael Gaffney described the former as “a fine, big foal with good bone. She has loads of quality and great action.”

Caturra, a son of Mehmas (Ire) based at Overbury Stud, won the G2 Flying Childers S. and was placed in a pair of group races. A’Ali Sires First Reported Foals

Multiple Group 2-winning sire A'Ali (Ire) welcomed his first reported foals in the past few weeks, among them a colt out of dual Group 3 winner Maureen (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}), who was fourth in the G1 Coronation S.

“Maureen was an obvious type of mare for A'Ali and we're delighted with the end result”, said Newsells Park Stud's General Manager, Julian Dollar, where A'Ali stands. “This colt is less than two days old, but came out very strong, balanced and well put together.  Our hope was always that A'Ali's foals would be in the same model as himself and so far from everything we're seeing and hearing, that's exactly what we're getting.”

Breeder Eugene Daly of Longview Stud had two mares produce A'Ali foals last week. Luminesce (Ire) (Muhaarar {GB}), from the family of Group 1 winner Mohaather (GB), foaled a bay filly, while the winner Moddy Poddle (Ire) (Pride Of Dubai {Aus}) produced a bay colt.

Daly said, “I've been very impressed with both of the A'Ali foals born on the stud. They're quality individuals with great strength and very much in the mould of their sire. Having seen him again at the recent TBA stallion parade at Tattersalls last week, I'm looking forward to supporting him again this year.”

Another A'Ali new arrival is a colt out of Eric Cantillon's mare Maajmeh Dawn (Ire) (Dawn Approach {Ire}), herself a half-sister to Listed Dee S. hero Viren's Army (Ire) (Twirling Candy).

Cantillon said, “This is a good colt foal. Strong, correct and with plenty about him. I like him so much I've decided to send the mare back to him again this year and another mare besides.”

The son of the late Society Rock (Ire) won the G2 Norfolk S., G2 Prix Robert Papin, and the G2 Flying Childers S. at two, before adding the G3 Sapphire S. and G3 Coral Charge S. at three. The recipient of 116 mares in his first season, he stands for £5,000 at Newsells Park Stud this year. A unique breeding incentive scheme is also being offered by Newsells Park.

First Foals For Lope Y Fernandez

European champion Lope Y Fernandez (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), was represented by his first reported foals when the Kingman (GB) mare Sempre (GB) produced a filly and Shaiydana (Fr) (Charm Spirit {Ire}) foaled a colt earlier this month.

The former arrived at John Bourke's Hyde Park Stud in Ireland, who said, “On Saturday, Jan. 14 we had a gorgeous foal with great quality and physique by Lope Y Hernandez–she was the first foal out of a beautifully bred Kingman mare Sempre. I will be sending two mares back to the stallion again this season, especially on the back of the first foal we have had. When I saw Lope Y Fernandez at The National Stud in December 2021, I thought he was a fantastic stamp of a horse with the best walk you could find.”

Of the second arrival, breeder Nick Bradley said, “I'm delighted with this colt–he is a cracking first foal out of the mare. He has great bone and quality like his sire and was exactly the type of foal I was hoping for, and more, when I bred to Lope Y Fernandez.”

Lope Y Fernandez won the G3 Round Tower S. at The Curragh as a juvenile and placed in five Group/Grade 1 events over his career, including the 2020 FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile and 2021 Queen Anne S. at Royal Ascot. He stands at The National Stud for a fee of £8,500.
