First Foal for Spendthrift Farm’s Yaupon

Spendthrift Farm's Grade I winner Yaupon (Uncle Mo) sired a colt, his first reported foal, on Jan. 13 at Rockridge Stud in Hudson, New York.

Bred by Rockridge Stud, Saratoga Glen Farm and Pete Beals, the dark bay is out of MSW Frost Giant mare Frostie Anne, an earner of $584,443.

“This colt is good sized, born at around 122 pounds. He's very balanced and correct, and you can tell he's going to have a big hip,” said Lere Visagie, owner of Rockridge Stud. “I've had three foals out of this mare and every foal has been better than the one before. I'm quite happy with this Yaupon.”

Trained by Steve Asmussen, Yaupon won six of his eight races including the first four starts of his career in 2020. Those wins included the GII Amsterdam S. at Saratoga and GIII Chick Lang S. at Pimlico, and he was the favorite in that year's GI Breeders' Cup Sprint as a 3-year-old. Yaupon's 4-year-old campaign was highlighted by the final race of his career, when he won the GI Forego S. at Saratoga.

Campaigned by Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt, the son of leading sire Uncle Mo earned $703,264. He is out of the Grade I-placed Vindication mare Modification.

Yaupon is set to stand his second season at stud at Spendthrift for a fee of $30,000 S&N.

Maxfield Represented By First Foal

Darley America's two-time Grade I winner Maxfield (Street Sense) was represented by his first foal Jan. 7 at Kiki Courtelis's Town & Country Farms in Georgetown, Kentucky.

The bay filly is the first foal out of Dreamalildreamofu (Commissioner) , a two-time stakes and twice graded-stakes placed winner of better than $293,000. The now 6-year-old mare was purchased for $235,000 by Town & Country at the 2021 Keeneland November Sale and was bought back on a bid of $340,000 at the same event this past fall.

“We are very happy with our Maxfield foal,” said Town & Country CEO Shannon Potter. “She is a pretty filly with all the nice angles you'd expect. She already has class and presence.”

Maxfield won his first two starts as a juvenile, including the GI Claiborne Breeders' Futurity and cloased his career with a victory in the GI Clark S. Winner of an additional four graded events and placings in the GI Woodward S. and GI Whitney S., Maxfield remains at $40,000 LFSN for the 2023 breeding season.

First Foal for GISW Rock Your World

The 2021 GI Santa Anita Derby winner Rock Your World (Candy Ride {Arg}) was represented by his first reported foal Jan. 9 when a filly was born at Diana Shoop's Gemstone Farm in Lexington. The bay lass is the first foal out of her winning dam, Mrs. O'Connell (American Pharoah), and was bred by Mark and Allison Menscer's Post Rock Farm.

“We are thrilled with the filly,” said Mark Menscer. “She looks like Rock Your World. He stamped her out. She has tremendous bone and a lot of substance. We couldn't be happier, especially being the first effort out of the mare.”

Rock Your World stands at Spendthrift Farm, where he will enter his second season in 2023 for $10,000.

GISW No Parole Represented by First Foal

GI Woody Stephens S. winner No Parole (Violence–Plus One, by Bluegrass Cat) was represented by his first foal, produced at Coteau Grove Farms Jan. 9. The colt is out of the Street Sense mare Naive Enough, making him a half-brother to stakes-placed sophomore Tumbarumba (Oscar Peformance), who recently ran second in the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile S. Dec. 10. The 6-year-old stallion stands in partnership at Carrol Castille's Whispering Oaks Farm in Carencro, Louisiana for $3,500, live foal stands and nurses.

“We are so excited obviously as the breeders of No Parole himself, to also be the breeders of his first foal. He is a beautiful foal and full of energy this morning,” said Coteau Grove Farms managing partner Hunter Myers.

Coteau Grove Farms Bloodstock advisor Andrew Cary said, “We have supported No Parole with some very nice mares and will continue to do so this year and beyond. No Parole had truly elite speed and his sire Violence continues to produce top level horses every year, like Grade I winners Volatile and Forte among many others. He's the only son of Violence standing in Louisiana.”

Raced by Maggi Moss and Greg Tramontin and trained by Tom Amoss, No Parole won six wins in 13 career starts.
