First Edition Of The TBA ACCESS Foal Forum Well-Attended

Over 250 people attended the first edition of the TBA ACCESS Foal Forum in the Tattersalls sales ring on Thursday night, the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association (TBA) announced on Friday.

The free-to-attend event welcomed both TBA members and non-members, and aimed to inform and educate attendees about the intricacies and challenges of breeding and pinhooking foals. The forum was led by Vanessa Ryle and featured insights into the first steps and considerations of breeding a foal, nurturing the growth of a young foal with the expertise of Kate Sigsworth of West Moor Stud, and Ed Harper from Whitsbury Manor Stud. Considerations when buying and re-offering stock at sales were covered by Mimi Wadham and Violet Hesketh of WH Bloodstock and leading bloodstock agent, Alex Elliott and some of the key mistakes both have made when first starting out. Robert Dallas of Rossdales provided excellent insight from a veterinary perspective across all areas.

A recording of the Foal Forum will soon be available to view on the TBA website.

Inaugural Catalogue For Goffs British NH Breeders Showcase Revealed

A total of 100 foals have been catalogued for the first edition of the Goffs British NH Breeders Showcase at Doncaster on Friday, Nov. 3.

The two-day format of the showcase will see a foal show beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, with the sale held at noon on the following day. The foal show will offer a generous total prize pool of £10,000 which will be shared among the top three colts and fillies in each class. The late Richard Aston of Goldford Stud will be honoured during the colts' class, while the fillies' class will honour Robert Chugg of Little Lodge Farm.

One of the choicest lots is lot 50, a colt by Blue Bresil (Fr) out of the Grade 1-winning hurdler Stormy Ireland (Fr) (Motivator {GB}). Among the other offerings is a Golden Horn (GB) colt (lot 38) out of a half-sister to the multiple Grade 1 winner Honeysuckle (GB) (Sulamani {Ire}); a filly (lot 53) by Walk In The Park (Ire) who is out of a full-sister to Grade 1 winner Bravemansgame (Fr) (Brave Mansonnien {Fr}); and a No Risk At All (Fr) colt (lot 49) out of a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Cyrlight (Fr) (Saint Cyrien {Fr}).

Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent said, “Since announcing this new concept we have been blown away by the level of support from British NH Breeders and are delighted to release a superb catalogue of NH foals for its debut. This Doncaster sale has been introduced following many requests from British breeders for a UK-based NH foal sale before Christmas, and we have worked in conjunction with breeders and the TBA to introduce this select, premium sale that showcases the best of British NH breeding.

“When planning, we wanted to help celebrate British Breeding and the wonderful foals entered in the sale so Goffs are putting up £10,000 in prize-money for the foal show which will honour two recently departed and much missed figures of the British breeding world, Richard Aston and Robert Chugg. The foal show will be held on Thursday, 2 November, with the sale the day following on Friday, 3 November, and we hope to welcome a large audience of British breeders and overseas visitors to Doncaster for what will be an exciting two days.”
