Fasig-Tipton Now Accepting Nominations For 2021 July Selected HORA Sale

Nominations are now open for Fasig-Tipton's July Selected Horses of Racing Age Sale, to be held on Monday, July 12, in Lexington, Ky. The sale will precede Fasig-Tipton's July Selected Yearling Sale, to be held on Tuesday, July 13.

First held in 2013, the sale has risen to become North America's leading horses of racing age sale, providing exceptional results for both sellers and buyers.

For sellers, the sale has produced individual prices as high as $1,075,000, and an overall sale average and median as high as $105,800 and $56,000, respectively, in any given year. The 2020 sale was topped by Grade 3-placed 2-year-old colt County Final, who sold for $475,000.

The sale is highly popular with buyers from coast-to-coast, who have achieved success at all levels with sale graduates.  To date, sales graduates have made nearly 9,500 starts, notched 95 stakes wins, and amassed earnings of more than $50 million since that inaugural sale in 2013. In the last year alone, the sale has produced an impressive five individual graded stakes winners in Fast Boat (2021 G2 Twin Spires Turf Sprint Stakes), Fearless (2021 G3 Gulfstream Park Mile Staes), Biddy Duke (2020 G3 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes), Cross Border (2020 G2 Bowling Green Stakes), and Cool Arrow (2020 G3 Smile Sprint Stakes).

Entries for the initial online catalog release will close on June 18, but Fasig-Tipton will continue to add approved entries after that date up until sale time. The interactive online catalog features continuously updated pedigrees, Daily Racing Form and Thoromanager past performances, Ragozin speed figures, race replays, and more.

Fasig-Tipton Releases Catalog For Santa Anita Sale

The catalog for the Fasig-Tipton Santa Anita 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale, to be held Wednesday, June 23, at the Arcadia, California, oval, is now online.

The company has cataloged 105 juveniles for the single-session event, who will be put through their paces during the sale's under-track preview Monday, June 21 beginning at 10 a.m. PT.

The inaugural F-T Santa Anita sale was topped by a Bernardini–Elbe (GB) filly that fetched $420,000 from Donato Lanni on behalf of owner Sarah Kelly. The 2020 renewal was canceled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are pleased to be bringing this auction back following a successful inaugural sale in 2019,” said Fasig-Tipton California Representative Mike Machowsky. “We are receiving increased participation from Florida-based consignors this year, and the sale's sire power is much stronger, as well.”

To that end, some of the country's leading 2-year-old consignors have earmarked this sale to display the progeny of such stallions as the late Arrogate, popular young sire Classic Empire, Constitution, Empire Maker, Goldencents, Into Mischief, Kantharos, Maclean's Music, Medaglia d'Oro, Munnings, Nyquist, Pioneerof the Nile, Smiling Tiger, Tiznow and Violence.

Supplemental entries will be accepted up until the date of the sale, which begins June 23 at 1 p.m. PT. Print catalogs will be available beginning May 26.

Santa Anita Boosts Closing Day Stakes Purses

California's Santa Anita Park has boosted purses for the Fasig-Tipton Debutante and the Fasig-Tipton Futurity, both 2-year-old stakes scheduled to run Sunday, June 20, which is also closing day. Each will have purses of $100,000, an increase from their original purses of $75,000.

Both black-type events are slated to run over five furlongs on the dirt and will be forerunners to Fasig-Tipton's 2-year-olds in training sale at Santa Anita, which will be held June 23. An under-tack preview is scheduled for June 21.

“We've boosted the purses on both of these races to $100,000 because we want to continue to provide tangible incentives for those owners and horsemen that are investing in our future,” said Chris Merz, Santa Anita's director of racing and racing secretary. “We'll have all of these sales horses on the grounds here during our final week of the meet and this is going to attract a great deal of interest.”
