GAIN to Sponsor The Advantage Series

GAIN Equine Nutrition will sponsor a new race series, The Advantage Series, for the Irish Flat Season, Horse Racing Ireland announced on Tuesday.

Launched with Ado McGuinness Racing, the eight part series of races will be run for points over a variety of conditions to cater to different trainers and horses throughout the season. For each race, there will be a 40% prizemoney boost. A grand prize of €5,000 worth of GAIN Equine Nutrition products will be awarded to the trainer who tops the GAIN The Advantage Series at the end of the season.

The series will begin on Classic Trials Day at Leopardstown on Apr. 11, and then move to Cork, Navan, Ballinrobe, Fairyhouse, Tipperary, The Curragh and end at Naas on Oct. 17, where the overall winning trainer of the series will be determined. There will be a drawing for grooms only for a three-night luxury stay at The Alex Hotel in Dublin supported by The Alex. In addition, the winning breeder of each race will receive a framed photo of the winning horse and will be entered into a drawing to win one tonne of GAIN Equine Nutrition products. Tattersalls Ireland Moves NH Sale

The February National Hunt Sale, to be held at Fairyhouse in Ireland, has been moved to Feb. 23-24, Tattersalls Ireland announced on Wednesday. The decision was made due to continued uncertainty due to COVID-19 and the current lockdown in Ireland, which expires on Jan. 30.

“As has been the case since the outbreak of this virus, we’re having to respond as best as we can to rapidly changing scenarios, at all times balancing social responsibility and prevailing government restrictions with the best interest of all Tattersalls Ireland clients,” said Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins.

“Rescheduling the February National Hunt Sale to the end of February will provide clarity to our vendors and will maximise the potential for all purchasers to attend the sales complex. It is not the start of the 2021 sales season we had hoped for but we are confident that the measures we have in place will allow us to host successful sales once circumstances allow. Due to the later date in February we will continue to take entries until Friday, 22 Jan.”

New Record Price at Fairyhouse

Ginto (Fr) (Walk in the Park {Ire}) (lot 5) set a new record for a horse sold at Fairyhouse when bringing €470,000 to top the Tattersalls Cheltenham November (Ireland) Sale on Friday. Snapped up by Noel and Valerie Moran’s Bective Stud, the winning 4-year-old gelding will remain with Gordon Elliott. Consigned by Cullentra House Stables, he won a maiden at Tattersalls by 12 lengths on Oct. 25.

Another 4-year-old gelding, Gringo d’Aubrelle (Fr) (Saddler Maker {Ire}) (lot 16), made €270,000 also from Bective Stud. Consigned by Monbeg Stables, the bay won on debut at Loughanmore.

A third lot brought €250,000, the grey gelding Gentlemansgame (GB) (Gentlewave {Ire}) (lot 9). Knocked down to Mags O’Toole, he was offered by Monbeg Stables.

Of the 25 lots catalogued, 24 were offered with 13 sold (54%) for a gross of €1,644,000. The average was €126,461 and the median was €75,000.

“Having initially moved this fixture from its Cheltenham home to Tattersalls Ireland as a result of COVID-19, new ground has been broken with today’s sale being the first live online auction to be held by the Tattersalls group,” said Matthew Prior, Head of Tattersalls Cheltenham Sales. “We have witnessed strong demand for the top end of the market, with purchasers from both Ireland and the UK competing for the cream of the Irish point-to-point crop via a combination of internet bidding and telephone bids. The highlight of the day was the sale of the hugely exciting prospect Ginto, whose price of €470,000 marks him out as the highest price horse to ever be sold at Fairyhouse, which is testament to the location being able to service this sector. It would be remiss to not acknowledge that trade has been difficult for some vendors with a selective clearance rate and we will certainly review the format ahead of the next sale. We would like to thank vendors who have thrown their support behind this new concept, providing us with the same accustomed quality that is the hallmark of Tattersalls Cheltenham sales and those purchasers that have participated in the sale.”

Tattersalls Ireland Releases Revised Schedule For Remainder Of 2020

Due to the unprecedented circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and in line with last night's government announcement to move the country to Level 5 restrictions, Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt Sale, Tattersalls Cheltenham November Sale and Tattersalls Ireland November Flat Foal and Breeding Stock Sale, which were set to take place from Nov. 9-13, will be postponed by a month until December.

The interest of Tattersalls Ireland's staff, clients and the industry are of the utmost importance at this time. Following consultation with Goffs, the rescheduled sales dates are as follows;

November National Hunt Sale at Fairyhouse – Saturday, Dec. 12 to Monday, Dec. 14
November Flat Foal and Breeding Stock Sale incl. a Yearling Section at Fairyhouse – Wednesday, Dec. 16
Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale at Fairyhouse – Thursday, Dec. 17

Commenting on the revised sales dates, Tattersalls Ireland CEO Matt Mitchell;

“In these uncertain times we must plan as best as we can for further sales and ensure we provide the most vibrant marketplace possible for our clients. We trust that the increased Level 5 restrictions for the next six weeks will meet the government's objective and allow us to host our remaining Sales in December.”
