A 300,000gns Book 1 graduate, which made him the sire's clear highest-priced progeny sold at auction last year, the April-foaled bay is a half-brother to the G2 Hungerford S. winner Sacred (GB) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) who reminded everybody what a class act she is last week at Newbury. In the maiden won in recent times by Telescope (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Eminent (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) and Ghaiyyath (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), another interesting contender is the similarly-unraced William Haggas-trained Garden Route (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), a son of the G1 S A Nursery winner Cloth Of Cloud (SAf) (Captain Al {SAf}) from the family of Artie Schiller who represents Magnier/Shanahan/Nagle/Kantor.

National Horseracing Museum To Host Anne Ward Exhibition

The Racehorse: Past & Future, the first major exhibition by painter Anne Ward, will run at Newmarket's National Horseracing Museum from Sept. 17-Feb. 19. Showcasing 10 retired racehorses and 10 unnamed foals, some of the paintings are of such stars as Sire De Grugy (Fr), Big Buck's (Fr), Ouija Board (GB), Prince Of Arran (GB), and Oasis Dream (GB).

“Deciding upon a final list of retired racehorses was a gradual process, but I wanted to achieve a balance across several factors–code of racing, gender, distance specialism, plus a variety of colours,” said Ward. “It was also important for each individual not only to be either well-known itself, to have a recognisable achievement or a connection to a famous horse, but to have gone on to a happy and productive phase of life after retirement from racing.”

“The title given to each of the foal studies represents the mood of the painting and the impression that I hope it gives to those who see it, and not the subject's registered name.”

Iconic Sky Tops The ThoroughBid September Sale

The mare Iconic Sky (GB) (Sixities Icon {GB}) (lot 33), in foal to new Overbury stallion Golden Horn (GB) and with a filly at foot by Jack Hobbs (GB), brought a sale-topping £50,000 from Longner Bloodstock during Friday's ThoroughBid September Sale. Offered by Beswick Brothers Bloodstock, the 9-year-old is a winner over hurdles and is a half-sister to Martello Sky (GB) (Martaline {GB}), who won the Listed Sandown Mares' Hurdle.

At the end of the sale, 23 lots sold (57.5%) and the aggregate was £199,200.

James Richardson, CEO of ThoroughBid, said, “Friday was a very busy day of bidding, with interest coming in from all corners of the globe, and overall a very successful sale with 23 lots sold totalling almost £200,000. Topping the bill was Iconic Sky, who was part of the Beswick Brothers' dispersal, and I know they're very pleased with the final price of £50,000.

“Elsewhere, we're delighted to have sold all three of the lots consigned by Willie Mullins, as well as getting two away for Charlie Hills in the shape of Spoof (GB) (Poet's Voice {GB}) (lot 46) (£7,000) and Papa Don't Preach (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) (lot 13) (£16,500), who were both bought by Kevin Frost.

“This sale marks a year since our first back in September 2021 and we're delighted with the way things are progressing.”

Goffs Million Attracts 24 For Its First Edition, As Purse Rises To €1.234M

The first edition of the Goffs Million has drawn 24 horses to the Curragh for the seven-furlong race on Saturday, Sept. 24. Now worth €1.234 million, up from the original purse of €1 million, the race consists of 12 Irish-trained entries and a like number of British-trained entries, and is open exclusively to Goffs Orby Yearling Sale alumni. The Goffs Million is part of the Curragh's two-day Autumn Festival of Racing alongside the G2 Alan Smurfit Memorial Blandford S. on day one.

Remaining in the field after the final forfeit stage are the listed winners Hellsing (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}) and Beauty Crescent (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}), as well as the maiden winner Hiawatha (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), a full-brother to dual Group 1 winner Luxembourg (Ire) (Camelot {GB}). Queen Olly (Ire) (No Nay Never), third in the G2 Duchess Of Cambridge S., is also signed on, as is fellow Amo Racing colourbearer Magical Sunset (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}). Wahaaj (Ire) (Gregorian {Ire}), second in the G3 Solario S. and Oviedo (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), third in the G3 Acomb S., will also take part.

Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said, “We are delighted to see such a quality line-up for the Goffs Million. The journey to the Million began this time last year when the owners selected them as yearlings at the Orby Sale, and we can't wait to see their Million dreams come to fruition on Saturday. The prize fund has increased to €1,234,000 with any surplus of entry fees added back into the pot along with our sponsorship fee and HRI contribution.
