Yoshito Yahagi Strikes For 1.6m Dubawi Colt At Tattersalls

Lot 301 became the sixth seven-figure lot during Wednesday's Book 1 session at Tattersalls when selling for 1.6 million to Japanese trainer Yoshito Yahagi. Yet another son of Dubawi (Ire), the colt is a half-brother to GI Turf Classic S. hero Digital Age (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), and the duo are out of the unraced Lemon Drop Kid mare Willow View. Also, a half-brother to G3 Prix La Rochette heroine Acer Alley (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}), he was bred by Merry Fox Stud and consigned by Fittocks Stud. Under the second dam is the stakes-producing G1 Moyglare Stud S. heroine Cursory Glance (Distorted Humor).

Classic Winner Westover To Stay In Training At Four

Classic winner Westover (GB) (Frankel {GB}) will remain in training at four, according to trainer Ralph Beckett. The Juddmonte homebred ran sixth in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe behind Alpinista (GB) (Frankel {GB}) on Sunday. The G3 bet365 Classic Trial at Sandown went his way in April and was then a running-on third in the G1 Derby in June. The bay blitzed the G1 Irish Derby field by seven lengths at the Curragh later that month and was fifth in Pyledriver (GB) (Harbour Watch {Ire})'s G1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth S. at Ascot on July 23.

“Yes, that looks like happening,” Beckett confirmed on his star's pending 4-year-old campaign.

“I thought he ran close to his Irish Derby run, if not his Derby run, on ground which perhaps didn't play to his strengths, and it was great to get him back on track and that close to what his best is.

“He's a big horse, he's been growing through the year as well and he should improve from three to four. He's come out of the race really well, I'm really pleased with him and the way he's come out of it. We haven't made any plans yet, but I'm sure we will.”

Perfect Power In Good Form For Champions Day

Multiple Group 1-winning sprinter Perfect Power (Ire) (Ardad {Ire}) is pleasing trainer Richard Fahey in advance of a start in the G1 QIPCO British Champions Sprint at Ascot on Oct. 15. The Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum runner won both the G1 Prix Morny and G1 Middle Park S. at two, and also prevailed in the G3 Greenham S. on his 3-year-old bow. After failing to stay in the G1 2000 Guineas, the colt bounced back to take the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. He was seventh in his two most recent starts–the July 9 G1 July Cup and the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville on Aug. 7.

“He's in great form–we're very happy with him,” said Fahey.

“We gave him a little bit of a break and he's been training real good. We've had him away a couple of times, he's in great order and we're looking forward to it.

“He loves Ascot. I thought about going to France, but speaking to Sheikh Rashid we decided to go straight there [Ascot] with him.

“He just doesn't want the ground very firm. He's had quite a few runs on very firm ground and it just wasn't suiting him. A bit of decent ground would be great.”

Normally paired with Christophe Soumillon, Perfect Power's team is hunting for a new jockey after the Belgian's two-month suspension begins on Oct. 14.

He added, “There have been discussions and Bruce Raymond [owner's racing manager] is on with that at the moment.”

Stradivarius To Parade At Ascot On QIPCO British Champions Day

The recently retired crack stayer Stradivarius (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) will be paraded at Ascot on QIPCO British Champions Day on Oct. 15. Bred and raced by Bjorn Nielsen, the charismatic chestnut retired with the most QIPCO British Champions Series wins in history with 16. Trained throughout his career by John and Thady Gosden, Stradivarius will be joined by fellow retired racehorses Side Glance (GB) (Passing Glance {GB}) and Trip To Paris (Ire) (Champs Elysees {GB}).

Anna Kerr, Chief Executive of the National Stud, said, “We are delighted to have a racehorse of the calibre of Stradivarius joining the roster at the National Stud. He has consistently demonstrated many of the attributes of his sire Sea The Stars–consistency, soundness and a phenomenal temperament. Parading at QIPCO British Champions Day provides the perfect opportunity for racing fans to say farewell to a true icon of our sport.”

Nielsen added, “He has been a joy to own. He turned up and ran his race every time with marvellous consistency. The last six years have been an absolute privilege and I particularly want to thank Ascot, Goodwood and York racecourses as well as everyone who has come out to support him during his career.

“He has been an absolute credit to the Gosdens and their staff at Clarehaven who managed to maintain his performance and enthusiasm for so long.”
