Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Dance Sequence, who due to riding arrangements may ultimately edge favouritism in the race won two years ago by Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}), is a descendant of Magnificient Style (Silver Hawk) whose most famous progeny was Nathaniel (Ire) who made his own debut at this track.

ALCANTOR (FR) (New Bay {GB}), who earned a TDN Rising Star tag with a scintillating debut display at Saint-Cloud in June, is dropped back a furlong by Ande Fabre for more experience prior to being tested at Deauville next month. From the family of Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB}), Baron Edouard De Rothschild's colour-bearer faces five rivals including the Saint-Cloud debut scorer Havana Cigar (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}) representing White Birch Farm and Jean-Claude Rouget.

Tatts Book 1 Millionaire Ylang Ylang Powers To TDN Rising Stardom At The Curragh

There was an abundance of pre-race hype surrounding the Aidan O'Brien-trained debutante Ylang Ylang (GB) (Frankel {GB}–Shambolic {Ire}, by Shamardal), who was hammered down to 8-13 favouritism for Friday evening's Kildare House Hotel Irish EBF Fillies Maiden at the Curragh, and she rewarded that faith with a 'TDN Rising Star' display in the seven-furlong test. Relaxed under Ryan Moore during the preliminaries, she was professional on the lead throughout and extended her margin of superiority, keeping on powerfully under mild coaxing, inside the final quarter-mile to easily account for Dollerina (Ire) (Territories {Ire}) by an impressive 2 3/4 lengths. She becomes Frankel's 34th Rising Star and joins a list which includes dual Group 1-winning G3 Hoppings S. runner-up Nashwa (GB).

“She was never away [from home], as she was so babyish, she was working very well and we're delighted with her,” O'Brien said. “It was nice to see her doing that and she's probably going to come on leaps and bounds. Ryan [Moore] gave her one back-hander to get down and stretch and said she was only playing in front. The [G2] Debutante S. should be perfect for her. She's working with the good colts no problem, which is usually a very good sign.”

Nico Archdale Joins ThoroughBid as Consignment Agent

Nico Archdale has joined the team at ThoroughBid and will take on the role of consignment agent; responsible for primarily sourcing flat horses-in-training to be sold online as well as building relationships with trainers and consigners. A graduate of the University of Edinburgh and the Godolphin Flying Start Programme, Archdale brings expertise from both training establishments and bloodstock agencies in the UK and abroad including America, Australia, and Dubai.

“ThoroughBid is a really exciting and innovative concept and I can't wait to get started. Horses are always there to be traded and ThoroughBid's online platform offers frequent opportunities for this in an efficient and transparent way,” said Archdale. “This platform can offer more free-flowing international trading as well. Arqana’s V.2 Sale Returns 

In an ever-changing sales landscape, Arqana has reinstated its V.2 Sale which this year will take place on August 22 and features 175 yearlings. The sale was replaced last year by a two-day September Sale, which has now been dropped.

Billed as including “preocious and forward yearlings”, the catalogue, which has been released hard on the heels of of the three-day August Sale which precedes it, includes a Rio De La Plata half-brother to previous V.2 star graduate Angers (Fr). Trained by Mario Baratti, the son of Seabhac won this year's German 2,000 Guineas and was a €22,000 purchase at the sale two years ago.

At the conclusion of the August Yearling Sale, there is a blank day to allow for inspections of the V.2 horses, with the sale set to start on the Tuesday morning at 11am.
