Racing Welfare’s Newmarket Heath Ride Returns

The Newmarket Heath Ride is scheduled for Sept. 6, Racing Welfare announced on Tuesday. The charity fundraiser will be the first in-person event since the coronavirus pandemic began. Entries will open on Aug. 10, with a 150-rider limit and close on Aug. 31. The sponsored ride starts and finishes at Newmarket’s July Course and offers participants rides over eight, 15 or 20-mile routes. Made possible by the kind permission of The National Stud, Newmarket Racecourses, and Jockey Club Estates, the event offers a unique opportunity to ride over Newmarket’s training grounds, utilising the town’s network of horse-walks. In the case of the longer routes, they emerge at the base of Warren Hill. The 20-mile course also offers the Al Bahathri all-weather gallop along the way. Entries are £20 and riders are required to raise a minimum of £20 sponsorship in addition to the entry fee. Yarmouth Fixture Transferred to Wolverhampton

Greater Yarmouth’s Friday fixture has been transferred to Wolverhampton Racecourse, the British Horseracing Authority announced on Tuesday. The Yarmouth fixture on Aug. 3 was cancelled after a faller in the home straight, and further assessment of that portion of the course is required. The Aug. 8 card will be an evening eight-race card. Entries will close on Aug. 5 at noon, with 24-hour declarations on Aug. 6. For more information, please visit: www.racingadmin.co.uk.

“Following yesterday’s mid racing incident at Great Yarmouth, we have undertaken a thorough inspection of the whole track with senior racecourse officials and the BHA Inspectorate,” said ARC Racing Director Jon Pullin. “Whilst nothing has come to light from this inspection, including any false ground, we will, in conjunction with BHA, move the fixture scheduled for Friday, 7 Aug. to Wolverhampton, before we resume racing at Great Yarmouth on Tuesday, 25 Aug.”

Frankel’s Petricor Earns TDN Rising Stardom in Deauville Debut

Sent postward as the 7-5 favourite for Tuesday’s Prix les Ammonites, a 7 1/2-furlong debutantes’ heat at Deauville, Khalid Abdullah’s Petricor (GB) (Frankel {GB}) did not disappoint and earned ‘TDN Rising Star‘ status with an impressive opening performance at the Normandy venue. The Andre Fabre trainee broke well from an inside gate, but was shuffled back to race in a midfield seventh after occupying a prominet second through the initial strides. Angled outside for an clear passage with 350 metres remaining she quickened to challenge entering the final furlong and kept on powerfully under mild coaxing to easily deny the pacesetting Grace Shelby (Fr) (Shalaa {Ire}) by 1 1/2 lengths nearing the line.

“This filly has been working nicely at home and she confirmed that promise on the track today,” said winning rider Pierre-Charles Boudot. “More rhythm in the race would have helped and I am certain that she will stay in the future.”

Petricor is the first of three foals produced by a winning half-sister to five black-type performers headed by MG1SW sire Brian Boru (GB) (Sadler’s Wells) and MGSW G1 Irish St Leger and GI Breeders’ Cup Turf placegetter Sea Moon (GB) (Beat Hollow {GB). Steel Bull Changes Hands, to Be Supplemented to Phoenix

Group 3 winner Steel Bull (Ire) (Clodovil {Ire}), owned and trained by Michael O’Callaghan for his first two starts, will contest the Aug. 9 G1 Phoenix S. at The Curragh under new ownership, as he was purchased privately by Chantal Regalado-Gonzalez, Racing Post reported on Monday. The son of Macarthurs Park (Ire) (Equiano {Fr}) will be supplemented to the six-furlong feature. For O’Callaghan, the £28,000 Goffs UK Breeze Up juvenile broke his maiden by 2 1/2 lengths at first asking at Naas on July 22. He followed up in the July 29 G3 Molecomb S. at the Qatar Goodwood Festival to maintain his perfect record and will stay in O’Callaghan’s care.

“Mrs. Regalado-Gonzalez has purchased Steel Bull and the plan is that the horse will run in the Phoenix S. at the weekend,” Regalado-Gonzalez’s racing manager Bill Dwan told Racing Post. “He was very impressive at Naas first time out, winning by 2 ½ lengths, then he backed that up in better company at Goodwood. He did it the hard way in the Molecomb S., so he looks an exciting prospect and please God he can compete at the top level this weekend.

“The [G1] Nunthorpe has also been mentioned, but we’ll take one step at a time. A lot has happened quickly for this horse, so I wouldn’t like to predict too far into the future. After the Phoenix, we’ll let the dust settle and see what the next option is.”
