New Dubai World Cup Breeze-Up Sale to Be Conducted By Goffs

The new Dubai World Cup Breeze-Up Sale in association with Goffs will be conducted by the Irish sales company on Mar. 24, 2022, the Dubai Racing Club (DRC) announced on Sunday.

Held during Dubai World Cup week, the sale will have a maximum size of 69 2-year-olds that will be sourced from vendors by Goffs which will appeal to both local and international buyers. All lots will undergo a full veterinary examination prior to departure to ensure full transparency and buyer confidence.

Sheikh Rashid bin Dalmook Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Racing Club said, “The UAE, Dubai and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum have long been great supporters of the sport. Therefore, we are excited to host the Middle East's first breeze-up sale, and also the first ever online sale to be conducted in the Gulf and Middle East region to enhance our owners' exposure to high quality horses. We are partnering with a world-renowned auction house and together we are taking steps towards creating a bright future for the sport in the UAE.

“As far as the potential horses are concerned, they look like a very exciting bunch of young horses who will hopefully bring plenty of success for their new owners. In addition, Dubai World Cup week is a meeting point for leading owners and bloodstock professionals from Europe, the USA, Australasia and Asia and as such we are hoping for strong trade at the inaugural Dubai World Cup Breeze-up Sale.”

Added Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby, “We are extremely grateful to the Dubai Racing Club for the confidence they have shown in the Goffs service by entrusting this prestigious sale to us. We look forward to working with Sheikh Rashid bin Dalmook, the Chairman of Dubai Racing Club and his team to deliver a world class event a day before the eve of the world's most prestigious race. We have a long and successful track record in the breeze-up sphere having held Europe's first breeze-up sale at Doncaster back in 1977 which also proved the source of the first European Classic winner from a breeze-up in Speciosa (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) who won the English 1000 Guineas. It will be a privilege to conduct a sale of this stature in Dubai at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed.”

All of the juveniles will undergo quarantine in Dubai prior to the sale and gallop on the dirt track at Meydan on Mar. 23, 2022. There will be no official times for 2-year-olds, but instead they will be galloped on the bridle. Nominations for the sale will be open in due course, with stable visits taking place following the yearling sales season. The visits will be led by Nick Nugent and Tom Taaffe, the latter of whom brokered the deal on behalf of Goffs.

Ardad’s Perfect Power Battles To Prix Morny Glory

Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum's 2-year-old colt Perfect Power (Ire) (Ardad {Ire}) became the first stakes winner for his freshman sire (by Kodiac {GB}) when plundering Royal Ascot's June 17 G2 Norfolk S. and, despite a blip when fifth in last month's July 29 G2 Richmond S. at Goodwood, notched another first for the Overbury Stud incumbent with a decisive victory in Sunday's G1 Darley Prix Morny at Deauville, a “Win And You're In” for the GII Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Del Mar in November. The January-foaled bay had earlier bettered a May 25 debut third at Newcastle with a 2 1/4-length graduation over five furlongs at Hamilton and was renewing rivalry with Richmond S. winner Asymmetric (Ire) (Showcasing {GB}) and a host of others in this straight six-furlong dash. Anchored at the tail of the field by Christophe Soumillon and under cover through halfway as Solotov (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) set the early fractions, the 19-5 second favourite inched ever closer once leaving the quarter-mile marker behind and quickened smartly under late rousting after joining the front rank at the eighth pole to win going away by 1 1/4 lengths from Trident (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}).

“He was quite unlucky in the Richmond and I'd have been very disappointed if he had not beaten all the horses that had finished in front of him in that race,” said the owner's racing manager Bruce Raymond. “I'm not saying I though he'd win, but I was expecting a good run from the horse. It was a slow, messy race and he had to work his way through horses on more than one occasion. It worked out beautifully in the end. He is all speed and a pure sprinter so the logical step would be to go to the [Sept. 25 G1 Juddmonte] Middle Park S. [at Newmarket] next. We hope he trains on next year and we'll see what happens when the time comes.”

Perfect Power engaged in a minor tussle with eventual runner-up Trident approaching the final furlong and the latter's rider Mickael Barzalona commented, “I'm certainly disappointed to have been beaten, which is always the case when you finish second in a Group 1 race. However, it was only the third run of his life and I'm delighted with that. I think he will stay further.”

Martin Harley, who was also in the plate for Asymmetric's G2 Richmond success, added, “I had some concerns about the [good-to-soft] ground beforehand, but he travelled smoothly throughout the race. I thought we might have a chance of winning with 2 1/2 furlongs to race, but he didn't quicken as I thought he might when I asked him. He really would have liked it faster and I expect the Middle Park will be his next stop.”

Perfect Power becomes the first Group 1 winner for his first-crop sire (by Kodiac {GB}) and is the first foal bred from Sagely (Ire) (Frozen Power {Ire}), herself a dual-winning half-sister to the Listed Upavon S. runner-up Sagaciously (Ire) (Lawman {Ire}). Descendants of the January-foaled bay's third dam Saga d'Ouilly (Fr) (Linamix {Fr}) include Listed Derby du Midi victor Sagaroi (Fr) (King's Best), Listed Prix Aymeri de Mauleon scorer Sagauteur (Fr) (Literato {Fr}) and this year's Listed Prix Maurice Zilber-winning G1 Prix Rothschild runner-up Sagamiyra (Fr) (Sea The Moon {Ger}). Ectot’s Good Too A New Rising Star at Deauville

Following on from a flurry of Rising Star awards in Ireland and Stateside overnight, Al Shaqab Racing's 2-year-old colt Good Too (Fr) (Ectot {GB}) joined the esteemed ranks with an impressive performance in Sunday's Prix de Montaigu at Deauville. Steadied off the pace in fifth after a sharp getaway in this one-mile newcomers' test, the 17-10 favourite made eyecatching headway on the bridle in the straight to challenge out wide with 300 metres remaining and displayed an impressive turn of foot once taking control at the furlong marker to easily outclass Yoozuna (Ire) (Kizuna {Jpn}) by 2 1/2 lengths in taking fashion, becoming the second winner for his freshman sire (by Hurricane Run {Ire}).

“We've been thinking, for quite some time, that this is a very nice horse,” said trainer Jean-Claude Rouget. “He had been working extremely well and he won that very nicely indeed. I feel he has great potential and, as I usually do, he will be lightly raced this year. He may have one or two more starts this year to give him some additional experience.”

Good Too, a half-brother to Listed Prix des Jouvenceaux et des Jouvencelles runner-up Nunzia (Fr) (Epaulette {Aus}), is the second of two foals produced by Netsuke (Ire) (Aragorn {Ire}), herself a dual-winning full-sister to G2 Duque de Caxias victrix and G1 Organizacao Sulamericana de Fomento ao Puro Sangue de Corrida runner-up Notting Tomorrow.
