Corazon’s G3 Prix d’Arenberg Win A Stakes First For Markaz

Syndicate supremo Nick Bradley and George Boughey hooked up to secure the trainer's first pattern-race triumph with Oscula (Ire) (Galileo Gold {GB}) in last month's G3 Prix Six Perfections at Deauville and the burgeoning axis repeated the dose as their 2-year-old filly Corazon (Ire) (Markaz {Ire}) battled to a career high in Thursday's G3 Prix d'Arenberg over the straight five furlongs at ParisLongchamp. She had earlier registered a July 30 debut fourth tackling five furlongs at Worlverhampton, graduating in an Aug. 10 novice test over the same distance at Lingfield last time, and went postward as a 17-2 chance for this stakes and turf bow. Corazon broke sharply and occupied a front-end berth through the early fractions of this dash. Scrubbed along once headed at halfway, she was under the full weight of Mickael Barzalona's drive when tackling Listed Prix La Fleche victrix and G3 Prix de Cabourg runner-up Dizzy Bizu (Ire) (Caravaggio) passing the furlong marker and would not be denied in the closing stages to edge that rival by a neck in game fashion, becoming the first stakes winner for her second-crop sire (by Dark Angel {Ire}).

“It's great to have another stakes winner for Nick [Bradley], he's the biggest supporter of my yard and so we're very happy,” said trainer George Boughey after claiming a second pattern-race success. “Mickael [Barzalona] is world class and has given her a peach of a ride. I was pretty keen for him to make plenty of use of her, to get her out and get her going. We've been pretty keen to make sure we have the right people on board when we travel to France and Mickael has done us another favour. The race looked a good opportunity and she'd worked like a filly that should be running in stakes races. It might have come one step too soon, but she was equal to it. She's always shown plenty of pace at home and I would imagine she will get six furlongs. Her work has always been pretty good and she's come a long way in a very short space of time. We'll get her home and see how she is, but I haven't really got a concrete plan for her. It wouldn't be a surprise to see her get an entry in the [G2] Flying Childers [at Doncaster next week]. I know that's a quick back-up, but it is a Group 2. She deserves a short break in training and there are lots of races she can go for towards the end of the season.”

Corazon, kin to a yearling filly by Dandy Man (Ire), is the fourth of five foals and leading performer from two scorers produced by a winning daughter of Dissonance (Ire) (Rossini), herself an unraced full-sister to G3 Firth of Clyde S. victrix Golden Legacy (Ire). Golden Legacy, in turn, is the dam of G3 Prix de Meautry runner-up Stake Acclaim (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) and hails from the family of G1 Japanese 2000 Guineas-winning sire Hawaiian Image (Jpn) (Father's Image), G1SW Chilean champion Prince Albert (Arg) (Slewsville), MGSW sire Saritamer (Dancer's Image) and MGSW G1 Cheveley Park S. runner-up Risky (GB) (Risk Me {Fr}).

Romantic Time A Second Pattern-Race Winner in Two Days For Time Test

William Stone trainee Romantic Time (GB) (Time Test {GB}), who snagged five-furlong heats at Great Yarmouth and Sandown in July, stepped forward off a three-length eighth in Newbury's Listed St Hugh's S. last month to pounce for victory in Thursday's G3 IRE Incentive Scheme Dick Poole Fillies' S. at Salisbury. She was an unconsidered 28-1 outsider for this first outing over the six-furlong trip and an attempt at becoming the second pattern-race winner in two days for her freshman sire (by Dubawi {Ire}), following the success of Rocchigiani (GB) in Baden-Baden's G3 Zukunftsrennen. Romantic Time was slowly into stride and raced off the pace in rear through halfway. Making headway and sticking to the far-side rail inside the final quarter mile, she quickened to the front with 100 yards remaining en route to an ultimately snug one-length success from Pearl Glory (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}).

“It's brilliant and I'm absolutely thrilled to get my first Group winner,” said Cambridgeshire-based conditioner William Stone. “Hollie [Doyle] gave the horse a great ride and that was super. The step up to six [furlongs] was great and I think she was a bit unlucky [at Newbury] last time. She got going a bit late there and met a bit of trouble in running, which didn't help her. I don't know what we'll do now, because we came here not knowing if she'd stay six, so I couldn't really look at anything for her until we got today out of the way. We'll just look at different options and go from there.”

Romantic Time, kin to a yearling filly by Tasleet (GB), is the second of three foals and lone performer produced by a half-sister to Listed Chester S. placegetter Top Tug (Ire) (Halling). Crowd Capacity Increased at Irish Racecourses From Sept. 6

Irish racecourses can host up to 50% of their outdoor capacity beginning on Sept. 6 following the Irish Government's latest COVID-19 response roadmap, Horse Racing Ireland announced on Thursday. Racecourses may also utilise 60% of their indoor capacity for hospitality purposes should attendees consume food and beverages indoors as long as they provide evidence of their Digital Covid Vaccine Cert (DCC). Attendance in both spheres will be increased to 100% as long as all covid restrictions are lifted on Oct. 22.

Regarding Irish Champions Weekend on Sept. 11 and 12, tickets for both cards go on sale on Sept. 3 for racegoers who have registered their interest ahead of time, with the remaining tickets going on general sale on Monday. Leopardstown and The Curragh will each be allowed to host a maximum of 4,000 attendees. Both days will be mixed outdoor events and access to indoor spaces is allowed with proof of a vaccine required for those consuming food and beverages indoors. The seven-day Listowel Harvest Festival from Sept. 19-Sept. 25 will host a maximum of 2,000 attendees per day and it is an outdoor-only event.

Brian Kavanagh, Chief Executive of Horse Racing Ireland, said: “It has been a very difficult 18 months for everybody in society, and racing can be proud of the way it has come through it. However, without racegoers, racing has been missing one of its essential ingredients.

“Like many industries, there is still much work to do, but there is now real progress and forward steps to normality. Welcoming back racegoers in measured but increasing numbers, is one of those steps and from Monday, Irish racecourses will be free to use 50% of their capacity to allow racegoers back on the track in real numbers.

“And as we know, this good news comes just in time for some of our most important race meetings: the Longines Irish Champions Weekend at Leopardstown and the Curragh on Sept. 11 and Sept. 12, and Listowel's Harvest Festival which begins on Sunday, Sept. 19.

“I would like to thank all our customers for their patience and look forward to race meetings becoming just that again–a place where racegoers can meet each other in a safe environment and enjoy our great sport.”

Tim Husbands, Chief Executive of Leopardstown Racecourse, said, “It is great news, and I can't tell you how happy and relieved the whole Leopardstown team is to be finally selling tickets and getting ready to welcome people back racing. We've been working hard for quite some time on making the racecourse a safe and pleasurable place for people to enjoy comfortably in these unique times.”

Lycetts Award Winners Announced

The winners of the 2021 Lycetts Leadership Award, the Lycetts Team Champions Award and the Farm & Stable Award for Innovation & Wellbeing were announced by the National Trainers Federation (NTF) on Thursday. Listed below are the winners of the three awards:

Lycetts Leadership Award: Dan Skelton
Lycetts Team Champions Award: Richard Phillips Racing
Farm & Stable Award for Innovation and Wellbeing: Eve Johnson Houghton

Dan Skelton is the first winner of the Lycetts Leadership Award that was inaugurated this year and is designed to shine a light on and showcase the most exceptional leadership qualities and leaders within UK racing yards. The judges went on yard visits to each shortlisted trainer (Dan Skelton, Nick Alexander, Andrew Balding, Ruth Carr, Dan and Claire Kubler and Suzi Smith) to determine the winner. All winners will be hosted on Breeders Day at Sandown Park Racecourse on Sept. 15, with Skelton and Richard Phillips Racing each receiving £4,000. An award of Farm & Stable products valued at £2,000 will go to Eve Johnson-Houghton's team.

Peter Burnet, new to the judging panel this year, said, “The judges were delighted with the very high standard of entries this year. From those who have entered before, to those involved for the first time a picture of effective teams, led by committed leaders emerged across the field. They show that a well led team delivers results.”

In addition, there were four Excellence Award Winners sponsored by George Smith Horseboxes. The following trainers won their respective categories:
