Royal Lodge Next For Masekela

Progressive juvenile Masekela (Ire) (El Kabeir) will line up next in the Sept. 25 G2 Royal Lodge S. Mick and Janice Mariscotti's colt holds some of the best formlines of any 2-year-old colt this term, running fifth to subsequent G2 Futurity S. hero Point Lonsdale (Ire) (Australia {GB}) in the Listed Chesham S. at Royal Ascot before a short head second in the G2 Superlative S. to Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) on July 10. The latter stepped up to win the G1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien National S. at The Curragh on Sept. 12, with Point Lonsdale second. Hailing from the Andrew Balding yard which is enjoying a strong year, Masekela was last seen in action taking the Listed Denford S. at Newbury on Aug. 14, with Bayside Boy (Ire) (New Bay {GB}), future winner of the G2 Champagne S., a head back in second.

“He's in good form and he's going to the Royal Lodge next weekend,” said Balding. “The form of his races is working out well–which is always good to see. An extra furlong should really suit him in the Royal Lodge, so we're looking forward to it.”

Alcohol Free’s Dam To Goffs November

Plying (Hard Spun), the dam of treble Group 1 winner Alcohol Free (Ire) (No Nay Never), will be consigned to the Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale by Jossestown Farm. The 11-year-old mare, who is also the dam of French listed winner Alexander James (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), is currently in foal to Lope De Vega (Ire).

The Fethard-based Jossestown Farm bought Plying from the same sale in 2018 for €21,000 just days after her then-weanling filly by No Nay Never was sold by her breeder Churchtown House Stud for €40,000 to Jeff Smith's Littleton Stud. As Alcohol Free, she went on to win last season's G1 Juddmonte Cheveley Park S. Returning in great form in 2021, she won the G3 Fred Darling S. on her 3-year-old debut, followed by the G1 Coronation S. at Royal Ascot. Alcohol Free's most recent triumph came when defeating 2000 Guineas and G1 St James's Palace S. winner Poetic Flare (Ire) (Dawn Approach {Ire}) in the G1 Qatar Sussex S. at Glorious Goodwood.

“Plying is dam of one of the season's true stars in Alcohol Free and has proven to be the shrewdest of investments by Jossestown Farm who purchased her at our November Breeding Stock three years ago, so we are absolutely thrilled that she will return to the same sale as the star of the show this year,” said Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby.

“On behalf of the whole team at Goffs, I wish to extend my thanks to them for putting their trust in the Goffs service. Mares of Plying's calibre epitomise the Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale's reputation as a source of Group 1 producers and it is no wonder it attracts such a diverse audience of leading broodmare buyers each year. I am very pleased to confirm that Plying headlines a particularly strong catalogue for the first major European breeding stock sale of the year for which our marketing team and overseas agents are already working hard to promote the sale to an international audience. Plying is a mare that would grace any breeding stock sale anywhere in the world and we anticipate global interest.”

The Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale takes place at Kildare Paddocks on Nov. 18 and 19 between Parts 1 and 2 of the November Foal Sale.

Frankel’s TDN Rising Star Raclette Doubles Up in Style at Chantilly

Juddmonte's 'TDN Rising Star' Raclette (GB) (Frankel {GB}) backed up an Aug. 8 debut triumph with a command performance upped to one mile at Chantilly.

1st-Chantilly, €34,000, Cond, 9-17, 2yo, 8fT, 1:43.37, sf.
RACLETTE (GB) (f, 2, Frankel {GB}–Emollient {MGISW-US, $1,350,400}, by Empire Maker), who earned 'TDN Rising Star' status with a taking display in a winner-producing debutantes' test over 7 1/2 furlongs at Deauville last month, was swiftly into stride and settled third behind a steady tempo through halfway. Making smooth headway in the straight, the even-money chalk cruised to the front with 300 metres remaining and powered clear in impressive style to easily outpoint Welwal (GB) (Shalaa {Ire}) (Shalaa {Ire}) by a geared-down four lengths. “She's a very nice filly and we used this race as a test,” explained Andre Fabre. “She won very well and, all being well, will now go for the [Oct. 3 G1] Prix Marcel Boussac [at ParisLongchamp].” Raclette is the fourth of five foals and one of three scorers produced by four-time Grade I heroine Emollient (Empire Maker), herself a half-sister to GI Belmont S. and GI Florida Derby placegetter Hofburg (Tapit) and GII Hall of Fame S. third Courtier (Pioneerof the Nile). The April-foaled homebred bay, whose dam was bred to Into Mischief this year, is full to a yearling colt and a half to G2 Balanchine S. and G3 Naas Juvenile Fillies Sprint placegetter Peace Charter (GB) (War Front). Raclette's dual stakes-winning third dam Glia (A.P. Indy) is a daughter of MG1SW matriarch Coup de Genie (Mr. Prospector). Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, €30,500. Video, sponsored by TVG.
