Lord Bullingdon Commanding In Eddie Logan Win

The connections of Lord Bullingdon thought highly enough of their horse to jump him up into graded-stakes company after running second to 'TDN Rising Star' Prince of Monaco (Speightstown) at Los Alamitos July 9. Second again in the GIII Del Mar Juvenile Turf S., he was denied again back in maiden special weight company at Santa Anita Oct. 7 before finally breaking through in the Qatar Golden Mile S. Nov. 3. Fourth last out in the GIII Cecil B Demille S., Lord Bullingdon stuck to what he knows best in his fifth straight try over the mile distance Friday. Tucked in to save ground from third, the 2-1 favorite was patiently handled by Umberto Rispoli and navigated through a gap around the far turn to launch a bid. Once clear, Lord Bullingdon was the class of the field and opened up with authority for the easy score.

“It was a very good trip,” said Rispoli. “I sat behind the speed. Last time I have to say it was my fault, I didn't give him a chance to get his legs under him. Today he was a different horse. He dragged me up there, I found the gap at the top of the stretch and he did the rest. He is a very good horse today, acting more professionally.”

One of six stakes winner for Lord Nelson, Lord Bullingdon has a yearling Accelerate half-sister and a weanling Tonalist half-brother still to race. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by FanDuel TV.

Classical Cat Pounces Late To Win Eddie Logan

A 2 1/2-length debut winner, Classical Cat jumped straight into deep waters, contesting the GI Del Mar Futurity and finishing seventh behind 'TDN Rising Star' Cave Rock (Arrogate). Back in the winner's circle last time out at Santa Anita Oct. 23 in his first try over grass, Classical Cat kept to the grass Friday and broke as the 2-1 second wagering choice behind favored Nagirroc. Off the pace in fourth as Game Time (Not This Time) led the field of six, he hung against the rail before tipping out for a three-wide move into upper stretch. First Peace refused to let him go by and the pair dueled into the sixteenth before Classical Cat dealt the final blow and got ahead for the narrow win.

“I had Nagirroc to my outside and obviously he was the horse to beat,” said winning jockey Umberto Rispoli. “I was praying that Mike Smith (aboard First Peace) would go a little bit ahead of me at the quarter pole, which would give me a chance to find room between them. The horse helped me. I had a ton of horse underneath and when you have gas, you can go wherever you want. I think he won easily today.”

The second black-type winner for his freshman sire (by Scat Daddy), Classical Cat hails back to dual Eclipse champion and perennial leading sire Curlin (Smart Strike). Conquest Strate Up produced a yearling filly, H M Legacy (Hard Spun), and a weanling colt by Tiz the Law before going back to Tiz the Law for a 2023 foal. Santa Anita Cancels Dec. 30 Racing

Officials at Santa Anita Park have made the proactive decision to cancel the program scheduled for this Thursday, Dec. 30, given a weather forecast that calls for additional significant rainfall in and around the track. The two turf races scheduled for Sunday's opening day card–the GI American Oaks and GII Santa Anita Mathis Brothers Mile S. and GIII San Gabriel S.–were transferred to the main track owing to the underfoot conditions. Racing will continue Friday, Dec. 31.

The three turf stakes scheduled for Friday have been pushed back to the weekend with a more favorable weather pattern expected. The GIII Robert J. Frankel S. will now be run Saturday, Jan. 1, while the Eddie Logan S. and Blue Norther S. for 2-year-old males and fillies, respectively, will take place Sunday, Jan. 2.

Saturday's card also features the GII Joe Hernandez S., the GIII Sham S. and the GIII La Canada S. In addition to the transferred juvenile stakes, Sunday's program also includes the $75,000 Kalookan Queen S.
