Tattersalls Online to Offer Breeze Up at Dundalk

Breezes for the Tattersalls Online June Sale on June 7-8 will be held at Dundalk Racecourse on Friday, May 19, Tattersalls Online announced.

Open to unraced 2-year-olds, the breezes will provide an opportunity for entries to gallop on the all-weather track similarly to conventional breeze-up sales. During their breezes, the 2-year-olds will be filmed and footage will then be uploaded to the Tattersalls Online website two weeks prior to the sale. Similar options will also be provided on request for entries based in the United Kingdom.

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said, “We are delighted to offer this innovative and cost-effective opportunity to breeze-up consignors to showcase their horses on the Tattersalls Online platform. We are constantly exploring ways to provide new innovative options for vendors and purchasers alike and we believe that Tattersalls Online will provide an excellent alternative for those wishing to showcase their breeze-up 2-year-olds. The Tattersalls Online sales have already captured the attention of domestic and international buyers, and we anticipate that the benefits of selling online as well as the opportunity to use the facilities at Dundalk will be an attractive option for vendors.”

Tattersalls Online website will provide buyers the opportunity to inspect any lot entered prior to the sale taking place. Spectators can also attend the breeze session at Dundalk. The June Sale is also open to all other entry types.

First Winner For Ten Sovereigns At Dundalk

Coolmore's first-season sire Ten Sovereigns (Ire) (by No Nay Never) was the latest freshman off the blocks on Tuesday as the Ballydoyle newcomer Brighter (Fr) duelled to success in Dundalk's five-furlong Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden. Sent off the 13-8 second favourite behind the 11-8 choice Vanity Pays (GB) (Kodiac {GB}), the €110,000 Arqana Deauville October purchase who is a half to the listed scorer Charm Appeal (Fr) (Canford Cliffs {Ire}) was swiftly away under Ryan Moore and on the flanks of the leader Love Ya (Ire) (Bungle Inthejungle {GB}). Left in front as that rival veered towards the far rail after turning for home, the bay battled tenaciously to ward off the Twomey runner Vanity Pays by a head, surviving an inquiry having brushed her inside the last furlong.

Quality Road’s Cairo Back With A Bang At Dundalk

Coolmore and Westerberg's 3-year-old colt Cairo (Ire) (Quality Road–Cuff {Ire}, by Galileo {Ire}), a multiple Classic entry, justified long odds-on favouritism with a comfortable success in Friday's one-mile Listed Patton S. at Dundalk. The homebred bay followed up an August maiden win at the Curragh with a second in the Co. Louth venue's Sept. 30 Listed Star Appeal S. and closed his juvenile campaign with a 2 3/4-length triumph in October's G3 Killavullan S. at Leopardstown. The eventual winner, Aidan O'Brien's first domestic runner of the year, was sharply into stride from the outside stall and raced in a close-up second through halfway. Nudged along to gain control soon after turning for home, the 3-10 chalk was not for catching thereafter and kept on strongly under urging inside the final furlong to prevail by two lengths from News At Ten (GB) (Twilight Son {GB}).

Cairo is the third of five foals and one of two winners from as many runners produced by Listed Naas Fillies' Sprint S. victrix Cuff (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), herself kin to six black-type performers headed by MG1SP sire Gustav Klimt (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), G1 Gran Criterium heroine Nayarra (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}) and G1 St James's Palace S. third Mars (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). The April-foaled bay's second dam, MGSP Listed Empress S. victrix Massarra (GB) (Danehill), is daughter of G1 Prix de Diane heroine Rafha (GB) (Kris {GB}) and thus a half-sister to G1 Haydock Sprint Cup-winning sire Invincible Spirit (Ire) (Green Desert) and to the dam of three-time Group 1 winner Mishriff (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}). He is half to a 2-year-old filly by No Nay Never and a yearling colt Wootton Bassett (GB).
