GSW Title Ready Pointed to Dubai World Cup

Charles E. Fipke's Title Ready (More Than Ready), winner of the GIII Louisiana S. at Fair Grounds Jan. 16, is targeting the G1 Dubai World Cup Mar. 27. It will mark the third consecutive year Fipke and trainer Dallas Stewart have had a runner in the $12-million race. Their champion Forever Unbridled (Unbridled's Song) finished fifth in 2018 and their GISW Seeking the Soul (Perfect Soul {Ire}) was eighth in 2019. The 2020 edition of the Dubai World Cup was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Originally trained by Steve Asmussen to placings in the GII Indiana Derby, GIII Discovery S., and GIII Steve Sexton Mile. S., the 6-year-old Title Ready has been in Stewart's barn for the past year and has since added a Keeneland allowance win as well as a third in the GII Hagyard Fayette S.

“We ran him in the [GI] Breeders' Cup and there wasn't enough pace, so he really ran pretty good that day,” said Stewart. “I probably ran him back a little quick in the [GI] Clark at Churchill, but I think he's good enough for those, so I gave him a little time after that and took him down to the Fair Grounds. Then he won in New Orleans and he looked really good that day. He's just doing great and he looks awesome.”

Like both Forever Unbridled and Seeking the Soul, Title Ready is a homebred for Fipke. The grandson of Broodmare of the Year Personal Ensign (Private Account) marked his first graded stakes success with the Louisiana victory.

“He's training great and is a wonderful horse to have in the barn,” added Stewart, “so I really wanted to give him a shot in this race.”

Stewart Taking Another Shot At Dubai World Cup With ‘True Grinder’ Title Ready

For the third consecutive edition of the $12 million Dubai World Cup (G1), prominent North American owner Charles Fipke and his go-to trainer Dallas Stewart will take a swing at the world's second-richest race. This round is slightly different for the affable team, as they do not bring a known champion like Forever Unbridled (2018) or a Breeders' Cup- and Pegasus World Cup-placed runner like Seeking the Soul (2019). Instead, an improving sort getting very good at the right time will head to Dubai in the form of an appropriately named Title Ready.

A homebred like the aforementioned, the son of More Than Ready is from the immediate family of Seeking the Soul and is a grandson of one of the greatest race-mares of all time, undefeated Breeders' Cup-winning champion Personal Ensign. Title Ready exits a smart victory for Stewart in the Louisiana Stakes (G3) on Jan. 16 at New Orleans' Fair Grounds over G2 winner Wells Bayou, a culmination of six starts focused on refining the dark bay since he was received in the spring of 2020.

After competing 19 times for Steve Asmussen, he was switched to Stewart, resulting in a pair of good-looking wins, an excellent third to Mr Freeze in the Fayette (G2) and unplaced efforts in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) and Clark Stakes (G1).

“Chuck is excited to come and I am too,” Stewart said. “We ran him in the Breeders' Cup and there wasn't enough pace, so he really ran pretty good that day. I probably ran him back a little quick in the Clark at Churchill, but I think he's good enough for those, so I gave him a little time after that and took him down to the Fair Grounds. Then he won in New Orleans and he looked really good that day. He's just doing great and he looks awesome.

“He's a beautiful horse with a great pedigree, by More Than Ready and with Personal Ensign on the bottom side, and is related to Seeking the Soul. That whole family is so strong. ” Stewart continued. “He's training great and is a wonderful horse to have in the barn, so I really wanted to give him a shot in this race.”

Blunt and charismatic, as always, Stewart knows he is diving once again into deep waters with the good-looking 6-year-old, but that has not stopped him from taking home a big check before. His proficiency with aiming toward a big race and placing with long-odds runners has been document ad nauseam, so his eagerness to send Title Ready should be noted.

Stewart: “He doesn't look six, that's for sure. He's a young-looking dude. He's a true grinder and really just keeps coming and keeps trying. He's a real happy horse and trains well.

“I think we got outrun the two times we were there so far, but I believe the approach we have is solid. We just have to get there and run the race. It's $12 million, it's a mile and a quarter, we're hoping he will be better at that distance and we're game to try.

“It's the only way I know to approach races. You have to be game to do it, train for it and then you go for it. We really want to thank Sheikh Mohammed for having the race and allowing us back to run. We really appreciate it.”

Jesus’ Team On Schedule For March 27 Dubai World Cup

Jesus' Team, who finished second behind Knicks Go in the $3-million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., continues to train forwardly toward a scheduled start in the $12-million Dubai World Cup (G1) at Meydan in the United Arab Emirates on March 27.

Trainer Jose D'Angelo reported Sunday that the 4-year-old son of Tapiture exited Saturday's 1:01.45 breeze at Palm Meadows in good order.

“It was an easy work, a maintenance work,” D'Angelo said. “Next week, he'll work six-furlongs.”

Luis Saez, who has been aboard for his last three starts, has been signed on to ride Jesus' Team in Dubai.

Jesus' Team, who broke his maiden for a $32,000 claiming price at Gulfstream last March, has been stakes-placed in his last six starts, including a third-place finish in the Oct. 3 Preakness Stakes (G1), a second-place finish in the Nov. 7 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) at Keeneland, and his runner-up effort in the Pegasus that boosted his bankroll over the $1 million mark.

Empire Maker Filler Mnasek Dominates UAE Oaks

The second fillies' Classic of the Dubai World Cup Carnival, the 1900m (1 3/16 miles) dirt Group 3 UAE Oaks, was turned into a procession by Mnasek who scored a 6 1/2-length victory under Pat Dobbs, the pair far too good for six toiling rivals.

It was a third UAE Oaks success in six years for Dobbs, actually riding this filly for the first time in a race, and Doug Watson who also combined to land the race in 2016 with Polar River and Rayya two years later.

“She just goes out there and and tries hard,” said Watson. “We've done very little with her since she ran. She's a small filly and she has a lot of talent. We worked her in company out of the gate and that helped. Today she didn't enjoy being behind and when she was tipped out you could see it. She was the best filly. I don't know if they'll want to run her in the Derby, but who knows. Fair dues to Shane (Ryan, starter) and the gate crew. The did a great job helping us out. Obviously, she's a little funny in the gate and she broke great tonight. (The owners) should send her to America. That's her second win here. She's got a lot of options over there. If she stays sound and training like she is, she could win over there.”

Owned by Al Rashid Stables, the daughter of Empire Maker won her debut, over 1400m (seven furlongs), in December despite completely blowing the start. She was then very slowly away over 1600m (one mile) in the Listed UAE 1000 Guineas, staying on late to snatch second.

However, she broke on level terms this time and, once switched off the rail about 1200m from home, soon loomed as a massive danger to Godolphin's Last Sunset who hit the front, briefly, leaving the home turn. As soon as Dobbs said 'go' the race was over with Last Sunset losing second place close home to Nayefah who stayed on dourly having been held up in last.

“She's very brave,” jockey Pat Dobbs said of Mnasek. “She didn't enjoy the early part of the race, getting the kickback, but once she got out, she travelled super. She stays very well. She's a little bit light-mouthed, but she's got a big heart and is a lovely mover.”
