Bell’s The One Catches Club Car To Take Dream Supreme

Sconsin's scratch did not take any of the drama out of the Dream Supreme at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. Instead, a sizzling early pace gave way to late moves by first Club Car and then Bell's the One, who passed Club Car in the final strides to notch another stakes victory.

Elle Z darted out of the gate to log quick fractions of :21.54 for the first quarter and :45.24 for the half-mile. Vintage Ready and Frank's Rockette were second and third early, but Elle Z could not hold on in the stretch, fading as Frank's Rockette came on to take the lead briefly before Club Car made her late move for the front. On her outside, Bell's the One and Corey Lanerie came running in the race's final yards, passing Club Car just before the wire to win by a length. Frank's Rockette held on for third.

The final time for the six furlongs was 1:10.02. Find this race's chart here.

Bell's the One paid $3.60, $2.20, and $2.10. Club Car paid $2.80 and $2.20. Frank's Rockette paid.

Bred in Kentucky by Bret Jones, Bell's the One is a 5-year-old mare by Majesticperfection out of the Street Cry (IRE) mare Street Mate. Trained by Neil Pessin, she was consigned by Brereton Jones and sold to her owner Lothenbach Stables for $155,000 at the July 2017 Fasig-Tipton Select Yearling Sale. With her win in the Dream Supreme, Bell's the One has four wins in seven starts in 2021, for a lifetime record of 11 wins in 22 starts and career earnings of $1,520,275.

Weekend Lineup: Female Sprinters Highlight Saturday’s Action, Mighty Heart Returns On Sunday

A quartet of graded stakes races highlight this weekend's racing action across North America, but Saturday's highlight is the $300,000 Dream Supreme Stakes at Churchill Downs featuring the rematch of top female sprinters Bell's the One and Sconsin. Both skipped a trip to the Breeders' Cup World Championships last weekend, and return in this spot to renew their rivalry.

Saturday

3:56 p.m. – Grade 3 Maple Leaf Stakes at Woodbine

Ten fillies and mares will travel 1 ¼ miles on the Tapeta in Saturday's Maple Leaf Stakes. Starters include the Mark Casse-trained foursome of Art of Almost, Broadway Lady, Crystal Glacier and Skygaze. Graham Motion will send out Sister Otoole, a 4-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Amira's Prince (IRE), who sports a 2-3-3 record from 10 starts.

Maple Leaf Entries

4:36 p.m. – Grade 2 Bessarabian Stakes at Woodbine

The seven-furlong main track feature for fillies and mares, three-years-old and upward, has drawn nine starters, including Juxtapose. Trained by Steve Owens, the Kentucky-bred heads into her second straight stakes date after notching a third in the Grade 3 Ontario Matron on Oct. 10 at Woodbine.

Bessarabian Entries

5:36 p.m. – $300,000 Dream Supreme Stakes at Churchill Downs

Bell's The One and Sconsin will face one another for the sixth time in their careers on Saturday beneath the Twin Spires, this time over six furlongs. The last time they met, Sconsin bested Bell's the One by a half-length in the Open Mind Stakes on Sept. 18. However, Bell's the One came back to win the G2 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes at Keeneland, and Sconsin hasn't raced since the Open Mind, so recent form could give Bell's the One the edge.//

Sunday

4:35 p.m. – Grade 2 Autumn Stakes at Woodbine

Eight hopefuls, including multiple graded stakes winner Special Forces, reigning Canadian Horse of the Year Mighty Heart, and 2019 Belmont Stakes champ Sir Winston, are set to contest Sunday's Autumn Stakes. Special Forces will chase his second Autumn score, having won the 1 1/16-mile Tapeta event for 3-year-olds and upward two years ago.

Autumn Entries

7:00 p.m. – Grade 3 Bob Hope Stakes at Del Mar

Bob Baffert has three of the five 2-year-olds in the lineup for the seven-furlong headliner, including Messier, Kamui, and Winning Map. Also in the lineup are Rock N Rye and Forbidden Kingdom, though trainer Walther Solis plans to scratch Rock N Rye in favor of entering him in a state-bred stakes later in the meet.

Bell’s The One, Sconsin Rematch On Tap In Saturday’s Dream Supreme Stakes

Two of the nation's most talented filly and mare sprinters, Bell's the One and Sconsin, will renew their budding rivalry in Saturday's $300,000 Dream Supreme (Listed) at Churchill Downs.

Saturday's six-furlong Dream Supreme will go as Race 10 of 11 with a post time of 5:36 p.m. (all times Eastern). First post is 1 p.m.

Bell's the One and Sconsin have faced one another five times throughout their careers. In their latest renewal, Sconsin bested Bell's the One by a half-length in the $300,000 Open Mind.

Following the Open Mind, Lothenbach Stables' Bell's the One traveled to Keeneland to compete in the $250,000 Thoroughbred Club of America (Grade 2), where she defeated fellow Dream Supreme rival Club Car by a neck. Trainer Neil Pessin opted to not run Bell's the One in last Saturday's $1 million Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) in lieu of Saturday's race.

Overall, the classy 5-year-old mare has a record of 10-4-2 in 21 starts with purse earnings of $1,336,825. Three of her 10 lifetime victories occurred at Churchill Downs. She'll be ridden by her regular pilot Corey Lanerie in the Dream Supreme from post No. 6.

Lloyd Madison Farm's Sconsin also did not run in the Filly and Mare Sprint. Trained by Greg Foley, Sconsin has been off since her victory over Bell's the One in the Open Mind. The 4-year-old homebred filly will enter Saturday's affair with a record of 5-4-1 in 15 starts with earnings of $783,362. Jockey Tyler Gaffalione will have the return mount from post 4.

The Dream Supreme drew a field of seven fillies and mares. Here's the complete field from the rail out (with jockey and trainer):

  1. Blinkers (Armando Martinez, Kelli Martinez)
  2. Elle Z (Mitchell Murrill, Chris Hartman)
  3. Vintage Ready (John McKee, Eric Reed)
  4. Sconsin (Gaffalione, Foley)
  5. Club Car (Joel Rosario, Ben Colebrook)
  6. Bell's the One (Lanerie, Pessin)
  7. Frank's Rockette (Florent Geroux, Bill Mott)
