Goffs Doncaster October Sale Catalogue Now Online

A total of 114 lots have been catalogued for the 2023 Goffs October HIT & Yearling Sale, set to be held on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at Doncaster. There will be 73 horses-in-training and 33 yearlings, breeding and youngstock on offer.

Of the yearlings set to sell, 14 are eligible for the Great British Bonus. Sires represented include Ardad (Ire), Earthlight (Ire), Harry Angel (Ire), Invincible Army (Ire), Land Force (Ire), Mohaather (GB), Oasis Dream (GB) and Sergei Prokofiev. The session will also offer two lots eligible for Harry's Half Million by Goffs.

The sale features mares in foal to Frontiersman (GB) (lot 85), Golden Horn (GB) (lot 87) and Planteur (Ire) (lot 88), as well as some well-bred NH young stock.

“The October Sale offers buyers their last chance at securing a Donny yearling in 2023 and with almost half the yearlings eligible for the Great British Bonus, buyers can purchase in the hopes of picking up their share of significant additional prize money on the track,” Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent commented. “We also catalogue some attractive young NH stock with entries by the likes of Flemensfirth, Getaway, Jack Hobbs and Walk In The Park so there is plenty of quality to capture the attention of buyers.”

Inaugural Catalogue For Goffs British NH Breeders Showcase Revealed

A total of 100 foals have been catalogued for the first edition of the Goffs British NH Breeders Showcase at Doncaster on Friday, Nov. 3.

The two-day format of the showcase will see a foal show beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, with the sale held at noon on the following day. The foal show will offer a generous total prize pool of £10,000 which will be shared among the top three colts and fillies in each class. The late Richard Aston of Goldford Stud will be honoured during the colts' class, while the fillies' class will honour Robert Chugg of Little Lodge Farm.

One of the choicest lots is lot 50, a colt by Blue Bresil (Fr) out of the Grade 1-winning hurdler Stormy Ireland (Fr) (Motivator {GB}). Among the other offerings is a Golden Horn (GB) colt (lot 38) out of a half-sister to the multiple Grade 1 winner Honeysuckle (GB) (Sulamani {Ire}); a filly (lot 53) by Walk In The Park (Ire) who is out of a full-sister to Grade 1 winner Bravemansgame (Fr) (Brave Mansonnien {Fr}); and a No Risk At All (Fr) colt (lot 49) out of a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Cyrlight (Fr) (Saint Cyrien {Fr}).

Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent said, “Since announcing this new concept we have been blown away by the level of support from British NH Breeders and are delighted to release a superb catalogue of NH foals for its debut. This Doncaster sale has been introduced following many requests from British breeders for a UK-based NH foal sale before Christmas, and we have worked in conjunction with breeders and the TBA to introduce this select, premium sale that showcases the best of British NH breeding.

“When planning, we wanted to help celebrate British Breeding and the wonderful foals entered in the sale so Goffs are putting up £10,000 in prize-money for the foal show which will honour two recently departed and much missed figures of the British breeding world, Richard Aston and Robert Chugg. The foal show will be held on Thursday, 2 November, with the sale the day following on Friday, 3 November, and we hope to welcome a large audience of British breeders and overseas visitors to Doncaster for what will be an exciting two days.”

Heart’s Cry’s Continuous Clinches The Leger For Ballydoyle

The tale of success of Aidan O'Brien could be no better summed up than the title of the hero of Saturday's G1 Betfred St Leger at Doncaster, with Continuous (Jpn) (Heart's Cry {Jpn}–Fluff {Ire}, by Galileo {Ire}) the latest to excel for the Ballydoyle trainer who had surpassed the 4,000-winner landmark on Sunday. Coming of age when taking York's G2 Great Voltigeur S. in commanding fashion last month, the key member of Derrick Smith's four-strong contingent was sent off the 3-1 second favourite with the Frankie factor kicking in for Arrest (Ire) (Frankel {GB}). Held up with two behind early rear by a confident Ryan Moore, the relative of Saxon Warrior (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) proved the only member of the line-up with true acceleration as he cut through the pack to take control two out. Soon clear, he had 2 3/4 lengths to spare over the 11-4 favourite Arrest at the line, with the Royal runner Desert Hero (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) half a length away in third.

Sea The Stars Book 1 Sensation Starts At Donny

Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Saturday's Observations features a pricey auction graduate.

AT VIMEIRO (GER) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) was at 650,000gns the fourth-highest-priced yearling by his sire during 2022 when bought for Peter Harris by Richard Knight Bloodstock at Tatts Book 1. In training with Jane Chapple-Hyam, the son of the G2 T Von Zastrow Stutenpreis winner and G1 Preis Von Europa runner-up Amorella (Ire) (Nathaniel {Ire}) is bred to stay so a bold show on debut will augur well.
