COVID-19: 2021 World Harness Handicapping Championship Cancelled

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and people's uncertainty and uneasiness with traveling, the 2021 World Harness Handicapping Championship presented by DerbyWars.com has been cancelled.

Players that qualified for a seat through various outlets including the Meadowlands Survival Challenge, will be refunded the $1,300 tournament seat as a prize payout.

“After speaking with our players this was the best decision,” said Rachel Ryan, Director of Marketing and On-site Events for the Meadowlands Racetrack. “Many of our players are still uncomfortable traveling due to the pandemic. Hopefully we can restart the WHHC in 2022 and have a number of onsite tournaments that allow players to win their entry into the Final.”

WHHC updates will be posted at PlayMeadowlands.com.

Meadowlands Winter Meet Survival Handicapping Challenge Returns Jan. 2

The always popular Meadowlands Winter Meet Survival Challenge powered by 123Racing returns Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021. Cash prizes and World Harness Handicapping Championship presented by DerbyWars seats are up for grabs in this free online competition.

Trackmaster will provide Platinum Past Performances for each night of the contest.

The game covers the Meadowlands' Winter Meet and concludes on March 27, 2021.

The winner is determined by the highest total bankroll at the end of the Challenge based on a $2 “across the board” wager [win, place and show] on selections for three designated races each program.

However, to continue in the game, entrants have to “survive” by finishing in-the-money [first through third] with at least one of their selections each day. Failing to do so or not making selections knocks the player out of the game. To aid in the player's survival a “lucky horseshoe” is given. The lucky horseshoe is a “free pass” given to all Challenge participants that allows the player to survive if he does not make selections for a race card or all three of his selections fail to hit the board.

The grand prize is $500 & $1,300 2021 WHHC Spot
The second-place prize is $300 & $1,300 2021 WHHC Spot
The third-place prize is $200 & $1,300 2021 WHHC Spot

The free contest is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada 18 years and older, and all selections must be made through the format provided on the Survival Challenge website page. No selections will be accepted by phone, fax, e-mail or any other means. Trackmaster Platinum Past performances for the three designated races will be provided through the game board.

The deadline for selections each day is 30 minutes before 6 p.m. post time for the first race through March 13th. Post time then switches to 7:15pm for March 19-27th. After 30 minutes to post, all selections are final.

‘Tough Decision’: 2020 World Harness Handicapping Championship Cancelled

Due to the COVID-19 virus and the uncertainty many players had about traveling to the Meadowlands Racetrack, the 2020 World Harness Handicapping Championship presented by DerbyWars.com has been cancelled.

Players that qualified for a seat through the Meadowlands or DerbyWars.com will be refunded the $1,300 tournament seat as a prize payout. Players can also choose to have their qualifying seat held for the 2021 contest.

“This was a tough decision for us,” said Rachel Ryan, Marketing Manager for the Meadowlands Racetrack. “With so many unknowns remaining for the Meadowlands regarding permitted onsite attendance and COVID protocols we (along with DerbyWars) made the call to cancel for this year. We want all players to feel comfortable traveling to the track and safe while onsite wagering. Not holding the WHHC this year was our best option.”

DerbyWars has announced a $25,000 online game with an estimated $10,000 first prize for Meadowlands Pace Night on Saturday, July 18. Players can qualify every week on DerbyWars.com.

The WHHC will return in 2021 and updates can be found at http://www.meadowlandsracetrack.com/contest_detail.aspx?id=8240
