Discounted BC HORA Nominations Due By July 15

Owners of horses of racing age currently not nominated to the Breeders' Cup program can nominate their runners at discounted rates on or before Thursday, July 15 for competition in this year's Breeders' Cup World Championships, Nov. 5-6 at Del Mar. All horses must be nominated in order to compete in any of the 14 Breeders' Cup World Championship races. In addition, a Breeders' Cup-nominated horse is eligible to participate in all Breeders' Cup purse and awards programs for its entire racing career without any further nomination payments due.

The nomination discounts are as follows:

Two-year-olds by a nominated Breeders' Cup stallion can join the program for US$12,000. This one-time nomination fee makes the racehorse Breeders' Cup-eligible for its entire racing career.
Runners which are 3-year-olds and older that were foaled in the Northern Hemisphere and sired by a nominated stallion will receive a 50% discount off normal racehorse nomination fees. Three-year-olds and older which were born in the Southern Hemisphere can be nominated for 25% of their regular nomination fee.
All nominated racehorses are eligible for the Breeders' Cup World Championships for their entire racing careers, which will have purses and awards totaling more than $31 million this year.
A nominator award of $10,000 will be paid to the person nominating any racehorse that wins a Breeders' Cup “Win and You're In” Challenge Series Race.
Nominator awards are paid through all finish positions in the Breeders' Cup World Championships.

Following the July 15 discount deadline, the price for all non-nominated runners reverts back to the standard racehorse nomination fee of US$100,000 or more until Oct. 25, when all runners must be pre-entered for the Breeders' Cup World Championships races.

Owners of horses of racing age by non-nominated stallions can also take advantage of discounted prices before July 15. Del Mar: Pick Six Will Be 20-Cent Wager, Super High 5 To Have 50-Cent Base Wager

New takes on a pair of Del Mar betting favorites are on tap for the 2021 Del Mar racing season which breaks from the gate on Friday, July 16.

The track's Pick Six, long a staple at a $2 price, instead will switch to a 20¢ ticket, a wagering increment that has proven to be very popular with players of all levels. The bet will be called the “Rainbow Pick Six.”

Additionally, Del Mar's Super High 5 – available on the day's last race – will change its “play” denomination from $1 down to 50¢. Track officials believe the lower price will encourage players to take bigger swings at the day's final prize.

Otherwise, the track where the turf meets the surf once again will offer its fans the same 17 different ways to wager that have been presented over all recent seasons. It starts with the traditional win, place and show wagers and expands all the way out to several five- and six-horse combinations.

The Pick Six at 20¢ and its large mandatory payout days have proven to be solidly in favor at racetracks throughout the country. Del Mar will be offering two mandatory payout days in conjunction with the bet – TVG Pacific Classic Day (Saturday, August 21) and closing day (Monday, September 6). Pools of from $3- to $5-million are both possible and likely on those days, a sure ticket to bring on the big betting buzz, which makes a special day even more so around the track.

“We're excited about the large wagering pools the 'Rainbow Pick Six' will generate,” said Del Mar's director of mutuels, Bill Navarro. “The 20¢ minimum gives small and mid-level players the ability to spread deep throughout the card.”

Del Mar's 'Rainbow Pick Six' will payout 70% of the pool each day to those with the most winners and the remaining 30% will carry over, provided there are no single-ticket winners.

Three relatively new multi-race bets that have been warmly welcomed by the track's players are slated again this summer. They are the early Pick Four, beginning on Race 2 at a 50¢ price; a late Pick 5 offered on the last five races daily, also at the 50¢ level, and a Win, Place, Show Parlay available for a minimum of two races and a maximum of six. It is a $2 bet.

In addition to its Early Pick Four, the track will continue to offer its usual Pick Four on the last four races on the day's card, a bet that has proven to be one of the most in demand in the country and regularly registers $1-million-plus pools on weekends. Further, the late Pick Five will be similar to the track's early Pick Five held on the day's initial five events.

The full array of Del Mar bets is as follows: $2 win, place and show (all races); $1 Exacta (all); $2 Quinella (all); 50¢ Trifecta (all); $2 Rolling Doubles (all except last); $1 Rolling Pick 3 (all except last two); $1 Superfecta (10¢ minimum – all); $1 Place Pick All (starts w/Race 1 or 2); 50¢ Super High 5 (last); 20¢ Pick Six (last six); 50¢ Players' Pick 5 (first five and last five); 50¢ Pick 4 (Races 2 thru 5 and last four), and $2 Win-Place-Show Parlay (all races but last).

Del Mar will race on a Friday – Saturday – Sunday schedule for the first two weeks of its meet, then switch to a Thursday – Friday – Saturday – Sunday plan for the balance of the session, finishing up with its tradition closing day on Labor Day Monday, September 6. First post daily will be 2 p.m. with the exceptions of all Fridays (other than the opener) when racing begins at 4 p.m.

Maxfield Retains Top Spot In Breeders’ Cup Classic Rankings

Godolphin's 4-year-old Maxfield, winner of the Stephen Foster Stakes (G2) on June 26, retained his lead over Mystic Guide and Essential Quality following the second week of voting in the Longines Breeders' Cup Classic Rankings, a weekly rating of the top 10 horses in contention for the $6 million Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1). This year's Longines Breeders' Cup Classic will be run at Del Mar racetrack in Del Mar, California, on Nov. 6 as the final race of the 38th Breeders' Cup World Championships.

Maxfield, who has also won the Mineshaft Stakes (G3) and the Alysheba Stakes (G2) this year for trainer Brendan Walsh, leads all Classic contenders with 18 first-place votes and 300 total votes. The 4-year-old Mystic Guide remains in second place despite his defeat by a neck to Max Player in Saturday's “Win and You're In” Suburban (G2) at Belmont Park. Trained by Mike Stidham, Mystic Guide, the Dubai World Cup (G1) winner, has 276 votes. Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Essential Quality, also owned by Godolphin, is in third place. Trained by Brad Cox, Essential Quality, winner of the 2020 TVG Breeders' Cup Juvenile presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (G1), has 268 votes.

Boat Racing, Gainesway Stable, Roadrunner Racing, and William Strauss's Hot Rod Charlie, second in the Belmont Stakes, remains in fourth place with 175 votes for trainer Doug O'Neill. Winchell Thoroughbreds and Willis Horton Racing's 4-year-old Silver State, unbeaten in four starts this year, is in fifth place with 122 votes. Trained by Steve Asmussen, Silver State has won the Oaklawn Handicap (G2) and Belmont's Metropolitan Handicap (G1), a “Win and You're In” for the $1 million Big Ass Fans Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) this year.

The big mover in the poll this week was Korea Racing Authority's Knicks Go, who dominated the Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap (G3) last Friday with a 10 ¼-length victory. Also trained by Cox, Knicks Go, the 2020 Big Ass Fans Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner, jumps from 11th to sixth place with 117 votes. WinStar Farm's 4-year-old Country Grammer, winner of the Hollywood Gold Cup (G1) at Santa Anita Park, retains seventh place with 105 votes.

Wertheimer and Frere's 4-year-old Happy Saver suffered his first career defeat after five wins when he finished third in the Suburban. Trained by Todd Pletcher, Happy Saver (84 votes) dropped from sixth to eighth place.

St. George Stable's 5-year-old mare Letruska stayed in ninth place with 80 votes. Trained by Fausto Gutierrez, Letruska has won four of five starts this year, including a 5 ¾-length victory in the Fleur de Lis Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs on June 26.

Juddmonte's Mandaloun is the third Cox-trained horse in the top 10. Second in the Kentucky Derby (G1), Mandaloun (71 votes) dropped from eighth to 10th place.

The Longines Breeders' Cup Classic Rankings are determined by a panel of leading Thoroughbred racing media, horseplayers, and members of the Breeders' Cup Racing Directors/Secretaries Panel. Rankings will be announced each week through Oct. 11. A list of voting members can be found here.

In the Breeders' Cup Classic Rankings, each voter rates horses on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 system in descending order.

The Breeders' Cup has launched their latest online promotion, “Dreaming of Del Mar,” to grant one lucky fan and their guest a VIP experience to the Breeders' Cup World Championships Nov. 5-6 at Del Mar.

Out of all entries, one fan will be selected at random to win an all-expenses paid trip for two to this year's World Championships. In addition to premium tickets in the exclusive Trophy Lounge chalet, the grand prize includes roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, a private tour of Del Mar racetrack, access to the paddock where the winner will give the Riders Up call for a Championship race, and VIP access to a concert after racing concludes on Saturday.
