Dubawi Legend Targets Breeders’ Cup

G1 Dewhurst runner-up Dubawi Legend (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) is being pointed to the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Del Mar in November. The Dr. Ali Ridha-owned bay has not been off the board in three runs. He won a novice at Doncaster on July 22, and was found to be below his best after a third in the G3 Acomb S. on Aug. 18.

“He's come out of the race great,” said trainer Hugo Palmer. “He ran an absolute blinder. He showed the world what we have always thought of him, that he is a 2-year-old out of the very top drawer. We've been excited about him for a long time and it was great he came and did that. He's a very exciting horse going forward.

“At the moment we are planning as if we are going to Del Mar for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf. He's going to need to be in top order for us to do that but he's come out of the race phenomenally well. He actually put on two kilogrammes for the run. He's a lightly-raced horse and he's had plenty of breaks through the season. The 2000 Guineas is a proper hustle and bustle race. I think the trip to Del Mar will really make him grow up.”

Qatar Racing To Be Official Partner Of Breeders’ Cup Sprint

Breeders' Cup and Qatar Racing announced a multi-year partnership that designates Qatar Racing as the official title partner of the $2-million Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1), beginning at this year's World Championships at Del Mar racetrack in Del Mar, Calif., on Nov. 5-6.

The partnership also designates the QIPCO Champion Stakes (G1) and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) (G1) as “Win and You're In” Breeders' Cup Challenge Series races for the Longines Breeders' Cup Turf (G1) and the FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile (G1), respectively. The two races will take place on British Champions Day on Saturday, Oct. 16 at Ascot Racecourse.

Qatar Racing's brand will be featured prominently in onsite signage at Del Mar and during the NBC Sports' broadcast of the World Championships, and with international broadcast outlets

As a corporate partner of Breeders' Cup, Qatar Racing will also be featured in the event program, on the Breeders' Cup website and owned social handles, and on the Breeders' Cup World Championship Player's Show hosted by TVG.

Fairytale Finale? Hard-Knocking Restrainedvengence To Be Entered In Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile

Restrainedvengence, the sometimes-irascible cash cow for trainer Val Brinkerhoff and his owners, Bobby Grayson Jr. and Val's wife, Kelly, will face the most daunting test of his long career when he runs in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Del Mar on Nov.6.

“The Mile (on turf) is too tough with the likes of Mo Forza, and the Dirt Mile is coming up light, so that's where we're going,” said Brinkerhoff, who has had Restrainedvengence since Day One, running the 6-year-old gelded son of Hold Me Back on turf, dirt, synthetic, in sprints and routes from coast to coast.

In 34 career starts, Restrainedvengence has 10 wins, four seconds and three thirds with earnings of $917,682. He worked four furlongs Friday in 50 seconds flat.

“It was an easy breeze,” said Brinkerhoff, who celebrates his 65th birthday next Tuesday, Oct. 19. “He'll have one more here before we go to Del Mar.”

Edwin Maldonado, who piloted Restrainedvengence to a courageous nose victory as the 13-10 favorite in the $200,000 Downs at Albuquerque Handicap on Sept. 18, will be back aboard in the Dirt Mile. Restrainedvengence won the same race last year by a head under Ruben Fuentes.

Restrainedvengence may be a cut below racing's A-List Thoroughbreds, but on the track he's all race horse. Anyone who doubts that should watch a replay of his victory in New Mexico.

Winning the Breeders' Cup would be a fitting fairytale finale.

“The Breeders' Cup is a big step,” Brinkerhoff allowed, “but we might not get another chance.”

Woodbine Mile Winner Town Cruise Will Be Supplemented To Breeders’ Cup

Owner, trainer, and breeder Brandon Greer has changed his mind, and will pay the $100,000 fee to supplement his Woodbine Mile winner Town Cruise to the Breeders' Cup Mile at Del Mar, reports the Daily Racing Form. The 6-year-old son of Town Prize is not Breeders' Cup nominated, hence the fee, and Greer had originally planned to let the gelding rest for the remainder of 2021.

Instead, Town Cruise has been showing Greer he's ready for more.

“I breezed him the other day, and tried to keep him as slow as possible,” Greer told DRF. “He was a little up that day. You remember when I won the Mile, I'd said I'd have to ask the horse. I stopped asking because two days later he said: 'Let's go again'. I was hoping he'd tell me: 'No I'm good, let's go home for the season', but he was anything but that.”

The winner of three of his four starts this season, Town Cruise has an overall record of 6-2-1 from 14 starts, with earnings of $789,642.
