Breeders' Cup announced Monday that a limited amount of General Admission tickets for the 2021 World Championships at Del Mar will go on sale Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Noon ET/9:00 a.m. PT. This year's prestigious international event returns to the iconic Southern California racing venue for the second time in its history on Nov. 5 and 6.

Beginning Wednesday, fans can purchase General Admission tickets online at BreedersCup.com/Tickets or by calling the ticketing office at (859) 514-9428. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets as soon as possible, as demand is expected to be high. Guests will return to the World Championships after being unable to attend in person in 2020 at Keeneland Race Course in Kentucky. The 2021 World Championships promises to further cement the annual Breeders' Cup as an unparalleled experience showcasing world-class horse racing, entertainment, and hospitality.

“We are pleased to be able to offer General Admission tickets as we welcome our fans back to sunny Del Mar,” said Breeders' Cup President and CEO Drew Fleming. “Breeders' Cup and the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club are working alongside public health officials and medical experts to ensure we provide a safe return for the eager and loyal fans who have waited for more than a year to experience the World Championships in person.”

The historic Del Mar racetrack is located just 20 miles north of San Diego alongside the Pacific Ocean, where “the turf meets the surf.” In addition to best-in-class racing, attendees will enjoy the scenic seaside city backdrop coupled with the vibrant nightlife of nearby San Diego.

General Admission attendees can choose from three ticket options that offer a range of access to the weekend's events.

  • Clubhouse General Admission passes provide access to the 1st through 3rd floors of the Clubhouse including concessions, multiple wagering locations, and track apron to view racing. Two-day Clubhouse passes can be purchased for $300, while single day tickets can be purchased for $100 on Friday and $200 on Saturday.

Benches will be located around the facility, as well as on the apron, and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. All tickets will be sold in advance of the Championships, and are subject to availability at the time of purchase, as well as evolving public health guidelines. No tickets will be sold on-site. Gufo Likely for BC Turf

Otter Bend Stables' Gufo (Declaration of War), who earned a berth into the GI Breeders' Cup Turf with a win in the Aug. 28 GI Sword Dancer S., remains on track for the 12-furlong test at Del Mar Nov. 5. Trainer Christophe Clement said a breeze next weekend will likely determine Gufo's Breeders' Cup status. The chestnut was third most recently in the Oct. 9 Saturday's GI Joe Hirsch Turf Classic.

“We are training him to go to the Breeders' Cup at the moment,” said Clement. “I will speak to [Otter Bend Stables owner] Mr. Cainelli in the coming week for the plan and we'll make a decision. He'll breeze next weekend and then we'll assess him after the work.”

The 4-year-old recorded his most recent breeze at Belmont Oct. 3, going four furlongs in :48.80.

Victorious in last season's GI Belmont Derby Invitational, he returned this year to annex Belmont's Grand Couturier S. in July before earning his second Grade I win in the Sword Dancer. He also finished second and third, respectively, in this spring's GI Man o' War S. and GI Manhattan S.

Also working for Clement at Belmont Saturday, graded stakes-placed pair Soldier Rising (GB) (Frankel {GB}) and City Man (Mucho Macho Man) breezed in company over the inner turf in :47.20. Runner up in the GI Saratoga Derby Invitational and Jockey Club Derby Invitational, Soldier Rising will target the Oct. 23 GII Hill Prince S. at Belmont. City Man, a three-time New York-bred stakes winner, will make his next start in the $200,000 Mohawk S. as part of the Empire Showcase Day Oct. 30.

“They worked a touch quick, but they worked well,” Clement said. “They came back in good order and are in good shape so far.”

Also on the work tab for Clement was Moyglare Stud Farm's Beautiful Lover (Arch), who went an easy half-mile in :52.10. The 5-year-old will target Belmont's $100,000 Zagora S. Oct. 31.

“She worked well. It was a slow, but by design. She finished up nicely,” Clement added.

A last-out fifth in the GIII Fasig-Tipton Waya S. Oct. 3, Beautiful Lover won a 1 1/16-mile allowance optional claimer at Belmont June 27. The Florida-bred, who earned black-type with a win in the 2019 Boiling Springs S. at Monmouth, also placed in that season's GII Hillsborough S. and GIII Matchmaker S.

Sadler: Tripoli Needs The Right ‘Trip’ For A Shot In Breeders’ Cup Classic

John Sadler hopes Tripoli returns to his winning ways when the four-old Kitten's Joy colt runs in the Breeders' Cup Classic at Del Mar on Nov. 6, but he realizes it's a daunting task.

Tripoli disappointed finishing fourth of eight by 6 ¼ lengths behind runaway front-running five-length winner Medina Spirit in the Grade I Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita on Oct. 2.

“He had his first work Monday in preparation for the $6 million Breeders' Cup in 47 and four (47.40) and he's going to work five furlongs on Sunday,” the trainer said of Tripoli.

“He just didn't get the trip he needed (in the Awesome Again),” continued Sadler, who won the Breeders' Cup Classic in 2018 with Accelerate. “He got hung out wide all the way, so it's more about the trip for him, but he appears to have come out of it good, so it's on to the Breeders' Cup.

“The Classic is a great race, and it should be. That's the big race and you've got a top 3-year-old (Medina Spirit) and Knicks Go; it's a really good race.”

Medina Spirit worked five furlongs Friday morning in 59.60 seconds for Bob Baffert, who also breezed champion filly Gamine six furlongs in 1:12 flat.

Meanwhile, Sadler has multiple graded stakes winner Flagstaff set for the Breeders' Cup Sprint.

“He just worked (four furlongs) this morning in 47 and three (:47.60),” Sadler said of the 7-year-old Speightstown gelding, a gem of consistency with a 7-6-4 record from 21 starts with earnings of $1,035,585.

‘I Haven’t Woken Up From The Dream’: California Angel Taking Leonard To First Breeders’ Cup

Winning Wednesday's $200,000 JPMorgan Chase Jessamine (G2) at Keeneland as a 17-1 longshot earned California Angel a fees-paid entry and travel expenses to the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) to be run on Nov. 5 at Del Mar, and she became trainer George Leonard III's first graded stakes winner.

“She came back from the race in excellent shape; I couldn't ask for better,” Leonard said about the daughter of California Chrome. “I haven't made travel arrangements yet. I haven't woken up from the dream.”

Leonard had little time to celebrate the milestone victory because he had to drive California Angel back to his Indiana Grand base about 2½ hours northwest of Lexington. He also had no time to entertain any offers from those interested in purchasing the filly, a Keeneland sale graduate as a weanling who sold to current owner Chris Walsh as a 2-year-old in training.

“I put her in her stall and stayed for an hour or two to make sure she was comfortable and then went home,” Leonard said. “I didn't answer many calls after the race – only those from my immediate family. I wasn't too talkative to a lot of people. I was just enjoying my time.”

Leonard, who is from Louisiana, sent out his first starter in 1991. He said Walsh is an Indiana resident who he has known “for quite a few years.”

“They are good people who I always talked to and watched their horses run (for other trainers),” he said. “They have other trainers, and I am fortunate to have them.”

California Angel won her career debut on grass at Kentucky Downs on Sept. 8 as a 28-1 longshot. Three weeks later, she was third in a Churchill Downs allowance race on dirt in her only other start.
