Saxon Warrior’s Brother Off The Mark At The First Attempt

Aidan O'Brien's 3-year-olds were described as a “strong” group by the trainer on Monday and there was further proof of that at Navan 48 hours later as the yard took the two maidens including the closer with Drumroll (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), a full-brother to the G1 2000 Guineas and G1 Racing Post Trophy hero Saxon Warrior (Jpn). A full-sister to the G3 Silver Flash S. scorer Promise To Be True (Ire) and to the dam of last year's G3 Prix Thomas Bryon winner Continuous (Jpn) (Heart's Cry {Jpn}), she hails from the family of the G1 Oaks and G1 Preis der Diana heroine Dancing Rain (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}). Her yearling colt is by Kingman (GB).

Son Of Happily Appears At Navan

Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. One of two Ballydoyle newcomers set for this test, the bay who was described by his trainer as a “little bit laidback” on Monday unsurprisingly sports blinkers and is the pick of Ryan Moore over Drumroll (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), a full-brother to Saxon Warrior (Jpn). Among the other first-time starters is Moyglare Stud's Time Tells All (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), a half-brother to last year's Irish 1000 Guineas-winning sensation Homeless Songs (Ire) (Frankel {GB}).

Group 1 Winner Keiai Nautique To Stand At Karwin Farm

Group 1 winner Keiai Nautique (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}–Keiai Gerbera {Jpn}, by Smarty Jones) will stand at Gregory Vayre's Karwin Farm in France next year, Jour de Galop reported on Thursday. Raced by Kazuhiro Kameda, the 6-year-old claimed the G1 NHK Mile Cup in 2018. The deal was brokered by Emmanuel de Seroux and a fee will be announced later.

A winner on debut as a juvenile, the bay was also second in the G2 New Zealand Trophy in 2018 and third in the G2 Fuji S. in 2020. Transferred to the Matthew Smith barn Down Under for his final four starts, he ran fourth three times in group company, including in his career finale, the 2021 G1 Mackinnon S. His record stands at 28-3-2-2, with earnings of $2,115,438.

Bred by Queens Ranch, Ltd., Keiai Nautique is a full-brother to G1 Cantala S., G1 Makybe Diva S. and G1 Toorak H. hero Fierce Impact (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}). Their dam, G3 Procyon S. and G3 Capella S. victress Keiai Gerbera counts GIII El Encino S. winner Edge (Damascus) as her second dam. At stud, Edge left Boundary (Danzig), a dual Grade III winner and subsequently the sire of dual American Classic hero Big Brown.

Record Kikura Sho For Deep Impact’s Ask Victor More

Despite riding a three-race losing streak, Ask Victor More (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) turned things around Sunday in a stakes-setting victory in Hanshin's G1 Kikura Sho (Japanese St, Leger), the final leg in Japan's Triple Crown. Installed the 4-1 second choice, Ask Victor More broke alertly and settled several lengths behind pacesetter Seiun Hades (Jpn) (Silver State), who rolled through the first 1,000 meter in :58.7 seconds. Continuing to survey the pacesetter from second without feeling any pressure, Ask Victor More closed on the early leader passing the 800-meter pole and quickly overtook the frontrunner, leading the rest by about four lengths entering the stretch. The only threat came from Boldog Hos (Jpn) (Screen Hero {Jpn}) and Justin Palace (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) who came charging up down the middle of the straight late, however, Ask Victor More was able to hold on to a nose victory in record time.

“I had a lot in my mind as to how I should ride in such a way that would produce good results for the colt and I am relieved that it worked out well,” said winning rider Hironobu Tanabe. “Although, he we will be facing even tougher competition in the future, I feel that he is getting stronger with every race and hope that we can continue with good results.”

The winner of his first two starts this term, including the G2 Hochi Hai Yayoi Sho Kinen in March, he finished fifth and third in his next two at the Group 1 level–the Aor. 17 Satsuki Sho and the May 29 Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby). In his latest start, the bay came was a close-up second behind Gaia Force (Jpn) in the G2 Asahi Hai Kinen at Nakayama Sept. 19.
